I've been reading Glenn for almost two years, and I have yet to see one article supporting anything Israel has done, nor one article suggesting those who support Israel in the American government are doing so due to genuine belief rather than political expediency.
When Hamas was firing missiles into Israel for the past three months, Glenn did not criticize American media for not mentioning it.
And be honest, has anyone seen our corporate media covering the Hamas attacks? You'd think this fervent pro-Israel media conspiracy that so many here believe in would lead to nightly news reports on Hamas's terrorism.
But no. Nothing. Virtual media silence.
Then Israel responds, and Glenn Greenwald is on the case!! Outrage at our biased media for not criticizing Israel more fervently.
Pathetic false equivalencies comparing media coverage of Israel with the coverage of our own government leading up to the ridiculously unjustified invasion of Iraq. The breakdown in analogy between the two military actions, not to mention one being a foreign government and the other being our government, should be obvious to a third grader.
Finally Glenn assumes democrats "capitulate" or are "blind" on Israel, rather than arguing from belief or conviction.
This is where Glenn opens the door to unhinged bigots on this board to glom onto grand global financing conspiracies and behind-the-scenes global "Jewish control."
Then morons like Omooex post that Palestinians have "no rights" in Israel, betraying a dangerous lack of knowledge (hint: Israel itself is 20% Arab, with full voting rights and representation in Knesset). Perhaps you'd like to read this Omooex, before foot-in-mouthing again:

Your words are appreciated, and true liberals understand that. I don't know why so many on our side become so pathologically rage filled when the word "Israel" is spoken. A country that lets its Arab citizens vote. A country that lets Arabs into its Congress. A country that could have slaughtered or drove out every Palestinian from the terroritories years ago.
A country that pulled out of Gaza three years ago, ending the occupation, and was thanked with hundreds of mortars fired into Israel.
But this is our achilles heel, right here. The one area where the wingnuts will get us every time. Because in the midst of the many who legitimately critique Israel on political ground, hide the anti-Semites who rage against the temerity of the Jews to hold guns or own their own country.
These raging bigots prefer their Jews as innocents who suffer, not as people who don't give a shit what they think and will fight for their right to exist.
Sorry, asshats. We're not going back to the role you want us to play (passive sufferer). Israel exists. The Palestinians have been offered peace, withdraw from Gaza, their own government and police force in the 90s, and they have responded with nail bombs and mortar fire. They are a people hell bent on self-destruction.
Obviously. I used congress in case any of the clueless people on here who obviously haven't bothered to read up on Israel before venting, might not know what Knesset is.
Anyway, care to address my point?
Does the voting population of Israel consist of 20% Arab Israelis?
Can these Arab Israelis vote?
Do they have representation in Knesset?
What are you saying, that because George Washington said something, I have to automatically subscribe to it? Thomas Jefferson owned slaves, can I buy your daughter?
So if we ignore the Arab Israelis, who are given full citizenship and voting rights, Israel refuses to give Arabs full citizenship and voting rights.
Gotcha.
You're like Bush explaining how Saddam has WMDs, but even he didn't, he might think about them.
This is pathetic logic.
Also, care to comment on Egypt, Syria and Jordan's policy on allowing Palestinians to immigrate to their countries?
Nice straw-man, numbnuts.
Where have I argued that people can't critique Israel? I've repeatedly said just the opposite.
I'm just daring to point out the obvious: Anti-Semites also "critique Israel," and we have a duty to parse this difference.
Just as some on the right who critique welfare do so on legitimate grounds, and others are enraged by the notion of a bogeyman black person stealing their money. The former is legit, the latter is racist. But both can "argue" the same way.
As with any complex issue, distinctions must be drawn.
This thread alone has shown both legit critiques of Israel, and raving anti-Semitic bigoted loons who want to see Israel taken off the map.
Washington lived 200+ years ago, before airplanes, before globalism, before the world economy became intertwined with the American economy.
According to Washington, we should've let Europe fend for itself against Hitler, and our current military in countries like Korea and Japan would be anathema to his world view.
Just like the antiquated Electoral College, the Founding Fathers could not forsee the country we live in today playing a role in global affairs. I would think this would be fairly obvious.
As to America's role with Israel, Israel has fought a war for survival as recently as 1973.
How many American troops fought in those wars?
This country has given more lives to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan in the past 5 years than to Israel in the past 60.
The notion that America worships or lives to support Israel is pure bunk.
We have left them to fend for themselves many times when their very existence was threatened.
