Conservative philosophy operates on the binary mentality. Essentially it requires all actions to operate as either a "zero" or a "one."

This then applies on the left/right scale. So if you're not conservative, you're "not-conservative" or "liberal."

So if CNN doesn't run conservative propaganda, the binary switch flips and it's "liberal."

Extending this to judges, there is no objective critical analysis of words, rules or facts, there is only left/right positioning.

Binary thinking in philosophy is regarded as the weakest and most common mistake of a false consciousness. It is laziness masquerading as critical thought. It allows "organization" of complex real world events into easily processed bite sized nuggest of either/or polarities.

It is also the entire crux of the conservative movement. It dovetails nicely with the advertising techniques of right wing media (easy to sell coke/pepsi structure).

I would argue that it's corruption more than fear at work here.

So many dems received so much $$$ from lobbyists that they can't back out and go against their corporate overlords.

I think fear of the "Rove watching" may be a small part of it, but in this case it's more corruption than anything else.

The good news is if Dodd can hold on and we win the presidency and pick up 3-5 more Senate seats, the blue dogs will become increasingly marginalized.

But I agree, it is vile to watch democrats fail to achieve anything time and time again.

It amazes me how the "Sober Serious" pro-war punditocracy repeatedly fails to connect the costs of ongoing occupation with basic economic factors.

This same crowd of pseudo-intellectuals who jump at the chance to opine on the "complexities" of the interrelated market system in which nothing exists in islolation, then flip 180 when talking about Iraq.

To the pro-war Iraq crowd, Iraq ALWAYS exists in isolation.

Never a mention of what the economic costs are doing to our economy. Never a mention of the quagmire pulling down our world standing, or the ridiculously high price of oil right now.

It's always Iraq-in-isolation.

"If we leave, X will happen."

Never any larger analysis of the costs of staying.

This is what renders their pseudo-intellectualism so inherently corrupt.

Glenn, the interview was on Fox -- the network not the cable channel.

It's called "Fox News Sunday" but it airs on Fox.

I'm therefore not sure I agree that this propaganda has a right to be broadcast on our airwaves. Unlike basic cable, this is not subscription based and should therefore be subject to public regulation (since it's provided free on our airwaves)

If you can't tell the difference between interviewing an author and interviewing the president of the united states, you're every bit the republican cult member fool that you appear to be.

If you attempt to justify ridiculously slanted/biased "reporting" like with frauds like Brit Hume and Chris Wallace, by digging through NPR archives, you grant Glenn's original point -- that there are agenda driven zealots masquerading as "reporters" on major cable news channels.

Despite the best work of the republican media agenda, there is still such a thing as real journalism. All it requires is an essential skepticism and adversarial position to all of those in power, combined with a dedication to facts and honesty when reporting.

Yes, it's still possible.

Not everything has to be "conservative" or "liberal," as it is in your small minded universe.

The Catholic Church DID collaborate with the Nazis, and is very much complicit in the Holocaust. Pope John Paul acknowledged this, and the Church has done much in recent decades to repair the damage.

But they deserve every criticism they get for turning their back on Italian Jews being shipped off to camps from trains not even a mile from the Vatican, for never repudiating the deicide charges, and for never excommunicating the Catholic born Adolph Hitler.

ABC created the "Path to 9/11" with that wingnut writer concocting Clinton blaming fictions.

ABC just forced ESPN to drop "The Sports Guy" Bill Simmons's plan to host a podcast with Barack Obama, what likely would've been the highest rated podcast in ESPN history and reached millions of Americans.

Yet ABC has no problem firing off dozens of right wing framed propaganda bits during a DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY, what is supposed to be only for democratic voters's interests (not general election).

They are a disgraceful network.

Bill Kristol is everything Judaism warns us against. The liar, the manipulator, the exploiter and the coward.

Kristol makes me ashamed to be Jewish.

I take solace in knowing that we have Jews like Glenn Greenwald, Josh Marshall, Sy Hersh, Naomi Klein, and many others fighting for truth and justice according to the true teachings of the Torah and the philosophy of Tikkun Olam.

We also have over 10 democratic Jewish senators (soon to be 11 when Franken wins).

It's unfortunate that ugly narcissist fools like Joe Lieberman and Bill Kristol put on their sanctimonious "Jewish" masks and pretend to have any clue about the religion when their only goal is to exploit it for political gain.
