  • Addendum to the above ---

[Read the article: Mike Allen, consummate Beltway "journalist"]

After the American public was nauseated to the point of projectile vomiting by the criminal behavior of Nixon, the sleazy secretive punishment of anyone who disagreed with him and his Henchmen, Jimmy Carter was elected solely on his qualification as a candid, honest, forthright man.(And, I still believe, on the fineness of Rosalynn's shapely legs.)

To whom do we look this time, now that we look back to the Nixon era as something (compared to GW Bush's term) akin to Camelot? Gotta be someone who is what he (or she) is.

    Like Popeye.

    Ron Paul?

Certainly not any of the others on the GOP side. Not Mitt or Rudy (hell, Rudy doesn't even maintain one single sexual image). McCain? No way.

And on the Democratic side, who?

Not Hillary -- she's changed her persona too many times, not that any of them are terrible, just too much like any way the wind blows.

Dennis Kucinich? Well, perhaps, if he didn't look so much like a hobbit in disarray coming in from last night's bender.

    Not Biden.

I had hopes for Bill Richardson, but he is BOTH a Yankees fan AND a Boston Red Sox fan? There goes the Northeast.

    Nope, John Edwards, I think.

    Or Ron Paul.

Whoever it is, they should make Joe Klein ride in the limo with John Corzine -- up front, in the passenger seat. Without a seat belt. People like Joe Klein (and Scooter Libby, and Bush and Cheney, et al), never seem to connect their actions and postures and poses to the daily body count they've caused to happen.

  • Yes, but I question the term "Psychopath."

[Read the article: Face of a psychopath]

I agree and am delighted to finally see people realizing that the prevailing world view is definitely pathological.

But psychopath suggests a genuine illness, someone perhaps traumatized in early life, while "sociopath" is a description of someone who can kill for any reason including profit without guilt, compunction, or any other trauma. Sociopaths need no trauma -- they're "bad seeds" who torture animals and classmates. Sociopath is what Raskolnikov THOUGHT he was be in Crime and Punishment

But -- oh how tragic -- it turned out in the final analysis, Raskolnikov realized was actually a human being with a conscience.

Neither Podhoretz nor Cheney nor Libby, et al have to worry about that.

  • Pirate wannabes

[Read the article: I Like to Watch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

They should all have to read S. Clay Wilson's Pirate Comix to get a better idea of "what a pirate ship was REALLY like. It was, as the Pogues pointed out "Rum, sodomy, and the lash." (And that was the good guys in the Royal Navy.)

Such things as CGI has made it possible to have an entire society of more or less functional people who have no idea where the line is between fantasy and reality -- often, no idea that there even IS one. (Which IS, I guess, the reality -- of society run and peopled by such folk.)

  • Well, if they really want Yahoo or whomever to take them down, they're sure going about it the right way

[Read the article: Google vs. Michael Moore's "Sicko"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Google is valuable ONLY as a dispassionate, objective, strictly factual, and non-judgmental search engine.

If they want to use the ethical standards of the Bush administration, i.e., "Pay us and we'll turn reality inside out to dance to your tune rather than uphold ANY principle and give the public any results you want," fine -- until now I didn't really care to find another search engine.

I do NOT call them whores, because, as one San Francisco prostitute said in an interview "We're not selling anything that doesn't belong to us."

If you present yourself as an honest broker (i.e., a search engine) you're selling something that doesn't belong to you -- and as such, you HAVE to be absolutely fair and even or otherwise (all together now) "Go Fuck yourselves, Google. We admired and enjoyed the use of you and now you show us you're nothing but a tool for the highest bidder to warp reality however the money says. Wither on the vine and die off like so many other companies who sold their principles out from under themselves. I'm doing one more search -- to find OTHER search engines."

  • Bush a "dry-drunk?"

[Read the article: The jerk in chief]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Joan -- great stuff, but come on -- you're an experienced editor -- I have been an editor myself, many years, off and on, not probably so top level as you, but enough to see lots of writers, editors, artists and art directors -- so I'm certain you MUST have known alcoholics who started ACTUAL drinking again.

Even carefully presented by his handlers, it's obvious he's been drinking since at least last summer when Cindy Sheehan was camped outside his door. It's as if he said to hell with it, canned Rumsfeld and climbed back in the bottle, doesn't care what Cheney says any more, back to his wet nurse -- Jack Daniels' nipple.

The fact he doesn't really seem to care about what his handlers say is another clue. But just looking at his face when he's speaking to a camera whether while protected by military men who, under law, can not criticize their commander in chief or in the bowels of the White House, look closely and see what's going on. If it's not jack, it's something in an RX and I want some. Xanax Super perhaps?

Recovering/recovered alcoholics I know have told me the problem, the reason it takes MORE than just stopping pouring the stuff down your throat, is you go back to the emotional age you were when you started, the time when you decided to anaesthetize your emotions for whatever reason, which for monkey Boy was around age 12 or 13 -- so your reader who contributed "...someone told him to pick on someone your own size and he did" was right, at least about the age -- but if I had to choose a commander in chief, it would be that little 13 year old girl over the Sock Puppet in Chief any day any week any year...
