I suggest that the more appropriate question to be asked is:
What role did race play with Black Democrats?
I have long been disgusted by the use of emotion in the largely successful attempt to lay all of the blame for the Katrina fiasco on the Bush administration.
My family, my neighbors and I, endured the devastation of category 3 Hurricane Ivan without whining or trying to conveniently place blame on the federal government. We all knew that while government can provide assistance, we and we alone were responsible for our own welfare. Some left town, but most stayed and when the storm subsided pitched in to help their neighbors. We understood that we may have to survive for three days without outside assistance; it would take that long for the lines of communication to be opened and for substantial relief to be forthcoming.
We relied on ourselves first, then the local government and assistance organizations like the Red Cross, then state government resources and finally the federal government.
I love to visit New Orleans and hated to see the suffering that Katrina caused. However, blaming the federal government (the media’s favorite whipping boy, President Bush) ignores the fact that the local people, the local government and the state government where totally unprepared.
I could go on to analyze the reasons for that unpreparedness but from my sampling of most of the letters in response to this article, in Navy terms, “I’d be hollering into a bent trash can.”
Who would you want to run YOUR company?
An individual who has never run anything except a social services organization and who has a record of casting a present vote to avoid having to take a position.
or
An individual who has managed people and organizatons as a military officer, extensive knowledge and experience in foreigh affairs and doesn't make decisions just to be sure HE personally looks good.
How about as your VP of Ops or second in command
An individual who has never done anything except serve in the Senate; ie. no experience running anything.
or
An individual who has run a city, run a state, owned and helped manage two businesses al the while bringing up a family now of five.
It's YOUR company, It's YOUR country, It's YOUR decision!!! Collect information, think long and hard - and DON"T lsiten to Party Hacks from either side.
She must be pretty danm good if all the media critics (read Obama flacks)can talk about is the process not the person.
More like dumbing down of Salon political commentators. As I understand, the only qualifications are age, citizenship and lack of criminal record. All current candidates qualify.
Now if you ask, who best to select: The GOP VP candidate has far more experience in an executive position than either the Dem VP candidate (30+ years suckling at the breast of the taxpayer - oh, I forgot, he's trained as a lawyer), or the Dem candidate for the top executive position (registering people to vote and years suckling at the breast of the taxpayer - oh, he's lawyer trained as well, interesting).
Perhaps, I'm missing something here. But, then again, I haven't been lawyer trained and I'm not so blinded by color that I can't see the light.
