Xavier

You really don't know anything about Tiller, do you?

BTW, thanks for clearing up an issue that is debated by wiser folks than you.

@groland

The surprising thing is that we lead the world when it comes to nationalized or government subsidized institutions. For example, we have most of the worlds best universities and research centers. We also lead in space exploration, climatology, and military technology. All are government run.

The difference being that you have to compete for those grants in the U.S. but receive them through cronyism in the EU. The market still steers the use of government funding -- afterall, it's not the politicians in federal gummint actually doing the research but the professors, engineers, and physicians. You must be successful in your arena to receive these grants.

Having lived in Europe for 6 years, I can assure you that you don't want their health care.

- Did you know that pain therapies are not used for childbirth in Italy?

- Have you ever seen a Brit smile?

I can go on and on about the level of care you'll get...but I really don't have to defend ours. You are all pining away for the Utopian health care of Europe and Canada. I hope you get what you ask for.

Part II Addressing Shallow Thinkers

I don't understand.

When did abortion become the central tenet of catholicism? It isn't even in the bible. It has no part of Catholic theology, yet somehow it became a defining issue for catholics.

Uhhh...so "Thou shalt not Murder" isn't a central tenet of Catholicism?

I'm glad to read so many theologians giving their opinions to the "masses" here. It is quite entertaining to experience their brand of "intellectual" exploration.

Misdirection by Shallow Thinkers

The author wrote: "many observers see the Notre Dame flap as little more than mischief by Republicans who still deplore the Democratic victory in November."

Through implication the author tries to stir up political bogeymen without actually addressing the issue. This might be a surprise to the author, but there are also pro-life Democrats objecting to Notre Dame's conferring an honorary degree. That is the real "flap".

What A Complete Bunch of ....

...ass-pumping clowns who read Salon.

Reading the responses to this article was hilarious. For instance, tardfinger pretends to be a conservative simply to dispute the writer.

Most others can't see through their MorOn.org blinders to see the truth in the article. If the writer gone further and spelled out how Clinton and Torricelli weakened our intelligence and led to 9/11, they'd all shit their pants in unison.

I'm sure most of you railing contrarian dipshits have forgotten this: http://patdollard.com/2007/03/democrat-hypocrisy-on-iraq/

Original article: The shaming of America

Let's Get a Clue

We should never torture anyone who follows the Geneva and Hague Conventions of War.

Everyone else should be tortured. If you intentionally target civilians, wear civilian clothing on a battlefield, store weapons and ammunition in "protected places" (religious structures, places marked with a Red Cross or Red Crescent, schools, etc.), behead officials and soldiers, THEN YOU SHOULD BE TORTURED and I don't really care if you die.

You chose to be a terrorist; live with that decision...or perhaps die from that decision, but don't whine about how YOU'RE being mistreated. That's just an insult to our intelligence (unless the listener is a liberal -- then you're just another victim that may be a potential Democrat voter.

ONe more issue

For all of the pro-gay marriage advocates, I want to marry my brother for tax reasons...tell how this picks your pocket or breaks your legs...

If you can't, then by your logic we can get married. Oh, by the way, my brother wants to marry a 12-year-old girl. Since this was allowed in the 19th Century, why not now?

I can marry him and he can marry her; after all, it's all about how much freedom we can push. Freedom or License...seems Milton spoke on that issue once.

How much longer until this: http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/301

Once again, the Liberal Canard

How often will liberals use the false analogy that race and sexuality are inherent characteristics? While race is, sexuality is has been shown to be a treatable behavior.

Both Dr. Francis Collins, former head of the Human Genome Project, and Dr. Robert Spitzer, a pro-gay psychologist have pointed to the malleability of sexual behavior. Collins showed how homosexuality is not hard-wired and Spitzer now champions homosexual reparative therapies. In fact, Spitzer says that reparative therapies should be a "right" for all homosexuals. Why would he do that if he didn't consider homosexuality a malady rather than a genetic predisposition?

Celebrating a behavior that causes so many medical pathologies for its practitioners is heartless and cruel. By trying to pretend homosexuality is a natural and normal behavior we condemn homosexuals to a destructive and painful existence.

It only took two paragraphs...

..to determine that the author, like Obama, can't tell the difference between the government and the people.

More and more the government has become an oligarchy of the privileged.

Even so, Washington said: "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible" c1796

and Lincoln said:

"It is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, and to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in Holy Scripture, and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord." - 1863

Juxtaposed those great men with one who has yet to prove his greatness speaking from a foreign shore.
