@Old Poor Richard

Hyperbole much?

OK, give us real science.

The point of this article is that up to now there is very little actual scientific evidence to support the idea that there is an epidemic of food (particularly peanut) allergies.

Some posters here want to dismiss off hand the impact of food allergies altogether. Others cling to the shaky research that has been done. Still others completely miss the point and talk about how bad their own and their kid's allergies are.

Lets get some real science on this. The current research, for reasons stated in the article is bogus. Before we hysterically clean every school bus that had a peanut dropped on the floor, or tell my I can't feed my own son peanuts because the magical effects will kill one of his classmates dead, I want real, hard, scientific evidence.

No, smoking pot does not make you a rebel. It makes you a criminal. What do you think that does to the psyche? What do you think that does for a person's respect for authority?

If pot smokers sound "sanctimonious", maybe because they are defending themselves against the concept that otherwise law abiding people are officially criminals. The law is simply wrong. If stating such sounds "sanctimonious" - so be it. Satisfying your sense of decorum is very low on the list their priorities, I'm quite sure.

"Smoking out of a bong is something few of us have done"

Patently false, unless all you smoke is dirtweed or are really good at rolling joints with bud. Most people smoke a pipe or a bong. Bud is hard to roll unless you mix it with tobacco - something Americans don't do. Rolling a joint is a skill that most casual smokers don't even have. Besides, most people who smoke from bongs do it because its smoother, not because it gets you any higher.

In my experience, maybe 10% of weed smokers roll. The rest smoke from pipes or bongs.

Nebuchadnezzar's Law

Worship the idol, people, ITS THE LAW!

Something about all the folks on this board who say "laws should always be followed even if they are wrong" reminds me of this biblical story.

No. Breaking drug laws is not at the same level as the Jews who refused to worship the idol and were thrown into the furnace. But the principle is the same. There is nothing morally wrong with breaking a bad law.

"I'm saying that when a person gets caught smoking (Not dealing or growing, etc- I'm not going anywhere near that, either.) pot, they're not doing it for the sake of human rights equality. They're doing it to get high because it feels good."

So what's your point? When the colonists threw the tea in Boston Harbor were the doing it for the sake of human rights? Equality?

Ask the Indians that question.

No. They did not want to pay taxes. Not exactly the highest of ideals either.

@funwithtrees

"Most home grown weed is okay to bad, growing good MJ is a talent just like growing beautiful roses or tasty vegetation. People who smoke weed on a regular basis, there is a reason most of it comes from California and Canada, because that Mexican shit is horrid given it's own special name of bammer. East coast weed is pretty shitty too. It's not just stick some seeds in the ground and here comes a good high."

This is exactly what I was thinking when I was reading some of the letters below. Growing _good_ weed is difficult and time consuming. The idea that marijuana is easy to grow may have been true when people smoked what we would consider dirt-weed, but growing good weed today means using Dutch (or equivalent) seed stock, careful attention, good conditions, and some luck. Growing indoors requires a considerable cash outlay too.

Now the generalizations of the quality of the weed on the East Coast I could probably take some issue with - we do have Vermont, upstate New York, and other less-known places, so good stuff is available if you know where to look. True the commercial weed is crap, but the same is true if you buy commercial weed in SF. I do give you that in general the quality and availability of the best stuff favors the west coast, but I must say a $200 east coast oz is a better deal than a $200 west coast 1/2 oz.

Battered User Syndrome

I find it pretty sad that fanboys need to keep defending Apple no matter how Apple screws em.

We are very very lucky that Apple was so sucky in the 90's. An Apple-centric internet would have stifled innovation, reduced freedom, and we'd be nickel and dimed for every app we wanted to use. Think DRM is bad now? Just imagine.

Is Apple a gated community or concentration camp? Either way, Apple will never get a cent of my money.

"Aren't you tired of cheap-ass China $2 ear buds marked up to $25.00 that fall apart in about 2 days and sound like garbage?"

Now you will be getting some cheap-ass China $3 earbuds marked up to $50 that will last 3 days and still sound like garbage.
