Define "God"

This is why I am an athiest. The word "God" is meaningless. When I ask people what "God" is, I either get a ridiculous answer (He's an an omniscient superman) or one so vague as to be meaningless (He's a universal spirit).

Belief in "God" is, in my opinion, selfish. Those who do simply cannot comprehend that the universe was not created for Man, must anthropomorphize the universe in order to put Man in the center.

Original article: Biden's difficult balance

Why is no one wondering if Palin will come off as a "bitch" then?

Just wondering... everyone seems so concerned that Biden will come off as a dick, but to me, Palin comes off as a smarmy, sarcastic bitch. With all the blather about Biden's pitfalls, I wonder if Palin's likability is being exaggerated.

I doubt I am alone. But then again I think Bush comes off as a high-school jock style dickhead. Apparently there are lots of people who like assholes.

Fuck it. Biden - make her cry.

Original article: Biden wins

Did no one pick up on the fact she didn't know anything about the bankruptcy bill?

This is where I think she lost the debate. She didn't know what Ifill and Biden were talking about when the subject of bankruptcy came up, and filled time with a bunch of nonsensical words. It was only a half step above her Couric performance.

I've yet to hear any commentators mention this.

Original article: The dumbing down of the GOP

Silly. If they were not disgusted 8 years ago...

... why expect them to be now?

Palin is Bush. If they did not object to the asshole jock idiot 8 years ago, why would they object to the asshole cheerleader idiot this time?

But "Saw V" and "Hostel III" are coming out soon!

Sadomasochism = bad. Torture = good.

Sick.

I permit my first chuckle at the pathetic GOP and dried up old McLame

I am trying to contain my happiness that Obama seems on track to be our next president and my amusement at the GOP's lame attempt to spin this one.

But I'll save my full blown, mocking laughter when Obama wins.

Original article: McCain's last stand

Another mistake....

No, it was not a huge one but it had my wife and I scratching our heads:

"I voted for Justice Breyer and Justice Ginsburg."

"Sen. Obama voted against Justice Breyer [...]"

Um.... you mean Alito, old man? Breyer was nominated in 1994, ten years before Obama came to the senate.

Original article: McCain loses again

missing the point

Ah. Hypocrisy. Those that complain about "redistribution of wealth" are pissing up a rope. The past eight years have been an experiment in redistribution FROM the middle class TO the wealthy.

Its time for the wealthy to pay their fair share.

Elves

Dunno why, but for some reason, this quote popped into my head and I feel like sharing:

“Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder.

Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels.

Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies.

Elves are glamorous. They project glamour.

Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment.

Elves are terrific. They beget terror.

The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.

No one ever said elves are nice.

Elves are bad.” - Terry Pratchett

@durian

"Let's remember that McCain was poised to beat Obama before the financial meltdown. Had Wall Street hung in there until January, we might now be mourning the emergence of a McCain-Palin administration."

Actually, not true. Obama was polling ahead of McCain before the the conventions. McCain took the lead briefly after the Republican convention, but it was generally acknowledged that this was a "post-convention-bounce". The meltdown came along and had an impact, but so did the passage of time as well as McCain's stupid choice of VP.

Nick Di Paolo is a stone cold idiot.

Never liked the dude.

My question is why were they talking to that D-list "comedian" about this stuff anyway? I thought he crawled back into the dumpster when Colin Quinn's show was mercifully axed.

Lighten up folks, Salon has never been solely about politics.

Lolcats is a huge internet phenomenon. It's perfectly appropriate for Salon to a story on them.

To all you people who think Salon should be focused solely on politics probably have not been reading it for very long. Salon has a long history of cultural commentary, from arts to parenting to technology to trends and fads.

So you don't like lolcats? Who frigging cares? There are thousands of people who do and that fact alone makes the subject matter worthy of discussion.

Have you given up on Salon? Don't let the door hit you in the ass. This site's comments have been overrun by assholes in the last year anyway, so don't expect me to cry because you refuse to buy a subscription. IMHO non-subscribers should not even be able to comment.
