Moms needs to have her kids checked out, as well...
[Read the article: How to explain my husband to my kids?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]>I'm the mother of an infant and two young school-age boys who are creative, loud and active. Possibly hyperactive, although I bristle at the thought of a clinician confirming my suspicions.<
Why, LW? You're letting irrational "how dare you say I'm not a good mother" guilt stand in the way of possibly getting your children some help. Don't do that to them. _Be_ a good mother and make sure they are truly okay.
>My God, though, I've never been so acoustically accosted by children.<
You have a tough time dealing with it, and your kids' teachers consistently mention they are active and loud. So, why aren't you doing something about it?

Clooney had (and still has)...
[Read the article: Roundup: Do these punching bags encourage female violence?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...some not-at-all complimentary things to say about BATMAN AND ROBIN and his performance in it. :) As far as Heigl goes, it sounds like she's trying to have it both ways. If she thought the script was sexist in the first place, why do it?

Did anyone think Russert _wasn't_ going to let Rudy slide?
[Read the article: Rudy survives the Russert crucible]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There are a whole batch of Beltway/media figures (Matthews and Maureen Dowd among them) who share--and approve of--Rudy's Catholicism-twisted, punitive mind-set. These people want a disciplinarian as president, period. It doesn't matter what sins he's committed so long as he'll take care of the "bad" people--which, of course, are never anyone like them. They think it's cool he dumped his wives--women are just disposable property, anyway. It's great he was a racist as NYC mayor--gotta keep those dark folks down. And ripping off taxpayer money--well, anything to keep His Discipline-ship safe and comfortable, because his word is second only to God's and he's so much greater than those teeming masses below him.

People are still mentally escaping...
[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex: Why do war films bomb?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They've been escaping since 9/11--but now they are fleeing the fallout of Iraq and this country's complicity. As someone else here noted, the bad news about Iraq and this administration's corruption is the kind of deluge even the most news-adverse, Fox-watching jerk can't deny. Add to that economic stresses and having to work insane hours, and you get an audience that is real-world-movie adverse. They don't want to see on-screen what they get a batchload of at home just by turning on the TV or PC. That's the reason why through most of this year, the fluffiest, most inconsequential movies have led the box office--movies even their makers were shocked did so well (*coff-coff* THE GAME PLAN *hack*.)

Okay, the art is getting somewhat better...
[Read the article: Kansas O'Flaherty ... Secret Agent]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...but, um, little things like suspense, pacing, and why-we-should-give-a-damm-at-all-about-anybody-in-this-thing are still missing. And the exposition info-dump is still more annoying than enlightening. Guys, please--get yourself a couple of graphic novels (anything by Alan Moore is a good start) and learn how to build and pace a story.

Nah, Dickinson has no props to criticize anyone...
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]>Big Dick has ground to stand on to be critical of actresses and models, as she put herself through hell striving for unattainable perfection (which she calls perfliction).<
Dollars to donuts she is critical because she never attained that "perfection"--and now she can take out her self-hate and dislike of other women on other people. Screwed-up is still screwed-up, even if the targets change.

@Rionn
[Read the article: Kansas O'Flaherty ... Secret Agent]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]>If you want the strip gone, try to ignore it.<
Why--so the editors will think we like it and offload more on us?
>What, do you want WayLay back on Tuesdays? Maybe it's just an unlucky day. It's not like there's another feature waiting in the wings...The bar's raised pretty high by "This Modern World" and "Tom The Dancing Bug."* But, it's not like there are more strips like that out there. There are plenty more strips like WayLay. Now, you and I might prefer empty space, but the comics editor has to fill the space, and experimenting with independent comics is a fine way to fill it.<
Any number of posters here have suggested far better online comics--ones that have proven themselves and have a following. A half-panel of "Get Your War On" and "Shooting War," for two, would be better than all of KOF thus far. For the SALON editors to opt for this amateur hour means 1) they didn't look; 2) were giving jobs to connected folks who'd never done a strip before. That's the kind of crap the neo-cons pull, so why is a liberal magazine doing the same nonsense?
>So, maybe Kansas O'Flaherty isn't a disjointed mishmash with self-conscious style references. Maybe it's art. It's really impossible to tell if it actually is innovative, so I'd give it some space. Maybe it's getting better as a narrative vehicle. Maybe it was all written six years ago and it's you that's changing.<
And maybe you are rationalizing drivel. No--you are _definitely_ rationalizing drivel. :) Come on--I'm not an expert on pop art, but the few Lichtensteins I've seen here and there not only have some narrative clarity (even if it's only composed of one panel), they also are aesthetically appealing. Neither can be said of KOF.

A $200 recycled-tire swing!?!?
[Read the article: Go green this holiday season]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Gee, my dad just strung up an old tire back in the day, and not only was it being recycled (in a manner of speaking) we got tons of fun out of it. And we didn't care if it looked like a tire. I gotta agree with the posters who noted that "green" here is just another word for trendy-stuff-no-one-but-the-rich can afford. Way to go to get people of all classes to pitch in environmental-wise...:P

Nimrod, if you want to mindlessly take what folks give you, have at it..
[Read the article: Kansas O'Flaherty ... Secret Agent]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...but don't expect everyone else to play Emperor's New Clothes. What is _with_ people like you who hate it when people even express opinions about artistic quality--and want to blame everyone except those actually responsible for lousy work?

Yeesh. Talk about destroy the village to save it...
[Read the article: Kansas O'Flaherty ... Secret Agent]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]>One must keep the mind active as one grows older,<
So, you're reading _KOF_ to do so?!? You're a better poster than I am, Gunga Din...:)
