  • This just in: sexual hypocrasy in the GOP!

[Read the article: In defense of Larry Craig]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You can't go around acting like gay sex is akin to genocide and act as if it's the same as straight sex. "Everybody" knows that!

That said, there was a guy named Ryan in Illinois (Jim? Jack? too many Illinois GOP Ryans ...). Poor guy had to drop out of the Senate race because he wanted to have sex WITH HIS WIFE in an exotic club while on vacation. He did not even get to HAVE said sex WITH HIS WIFE because she said, um, no thanks, and that was pretty much that.

Except it came out in their divorce papers and the moralists got all hystrionic and nominated some blood and thunder social conservative from out of state who spent the entire election yelling about abortion and Barack Obama coasted into office without so much as creasing his forehead.

Man, I'm a Democrat and I thought that was grotesque. I mean the guy wanted kinky sex ... with his wife ... who he is legally and morally and even biblically allowed to have sex with ... and didn't even GET TO HAVE the kinky sex ... and his Senate race was over.

Because you can be a crook and you can start wars on false pretenses and you can execute mentally retarded people and as long as you never stray out of line sexually, you're in the GOP Moral Values Club. But God forbid you want something a little wacky WITH YOUR WIFE which you DON'T EVEN GET.

  • Wow! all these letters and not one plug for Veronica Mars?

[Read the article: TV's triumphant overclass]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Admittedly it fell off in season three, but for its first two years VM was delightfully upfront about class, and not in a simplistic rich people are all ebil, poor people are all virtuous (or the reverse) way.

  • Wow! I'm going to be Netflixing DVDs all year then!

[Read the article: Women are the new men on TV]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

All these so-called "empowering" women characters on TV exist for one reason: to serve as a warning to those of us with any ambition that if we succeed we'll end up with an empty materialistic shell of a life or a man who despises us because he feels emasculated by doing housework or making less money than we do.

Now thank God I've met a few real men in my time because I know this does not IMHO reflect reality. This is a sort of Hollywood propaganda/cautionary tale/nah-nah-ni-pooh-pooh fit at professional women.

But I think it does impact women and our perception of reality and our sense of self. This is not designed to shape mens opinions ... because men are not the enforcers of patriarchal attitudes. No, this is to get women to doubt themselves and snipe at one another.

So all you men out there who think your wives and girlfriends are getting perfectionistic and defensive, get them to turn off the TV and turn on some music and play Scrabble rent stuff like Secrets of the Dead on PBS! (Like CSI for The History Channel ... always a good time!)

  • Yes, we have to talk about it ...

[Read the article: Greening the mommy wars]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

... because what we have instead is an enormous cultural fetishization of pregancy (as opposed to merely parenting) as part of the Great Family Values crush. Have babies and have them often and if you can't have them yourself, bankrupt yourself on IVF treatments ... I'm not anti-reproduction or anti-baby but there is a big cognitive dissonance here!

Certainly folk who are voluntarily childfree or who adopt or who limit their family size should be honored for the gift they are giving everybody else!

  • Methinks that Brightstar doth protest too much

[Read the article: Demi Moore's mad as hell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Let me begin to paint all women because of the worst 10% of you. Oh yeah. I already do, as a response to this typical female kneejerkism.

Oh, come off it, Brightstar, you do exactly this all the time!!!! in fact you rarely do anything else! Do not play the martyr here when anyone can find a dozen posts as evidence of you doing the exact same thing in any given conversation on Broadsheet!

  • Or ...

[Read the article: Demi Moore's mad as hell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

and if I still have problems at all getting women, it is certainly not because I am a neanderthal.

Does it never cross your mind that perhaps you have problems getting women because you are mean?

No woman of character would put up with your constant hostility! It's not your looks, it's your attitude and every single woman here (and some of the men) will probably agree with me.

You can look like Brad Pitt and have Donald Trump's income, but none of that is going to matter to woman who isn't shallow and materialistic. But I suppose that's fine with you, because you are simply going to attract people who share your own shallow and materialistic values.

But God forbid you ever take responsibility for your own life when blaming other people for your misery is so much easier and more fun!

  • Oh, what a tantrum!

[Read the article: So long, white boy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm *thoroughly* entertained by the amount of anger expressed at the mere fact that white men are being discussed as a demographic chunk to be exploited or ignored!

Hey, guys, if you're a minority or a woman, political demographers do this to you all the time! No matter how silly. (I just loooooooove being lumped with "The Women Vote" over questions like "Will Women Support Hilary." I mean: lame, party of one!)

I'm sorry you're all feeling insulted, but if it's not racist to analyze the voting patterns of, say, Jewish lesbians with an income +$45K from the 9th district in Illinois, then it's not racist (nor anti-Southern) to do the same to white socially conservative men from the South. It's just the fairly silly business of polling and data analysis and right now Teh Process is all about it. Why do you guys think you are exempt.

PS, in case you haven't realized, businesses and advertisers do this all the time. We just don't hear about it.
