    blink blink!

Actually, there were several comments about Bridal Magazines and the popularity of them and what was that about, and yours was only the last of a line of them.

And someone who writes sweeping statements like:

Women like to get married, but aren't particularly good at doing the work to make a marriage last.

Probably needs to look in the mirror and meditate upon his own big heap of condescension.

If you can make snotty comments about my entire gender, do not die of shock when I condescend to you. You have not earned my respect and I'm not obliged to give it to you.

So if the educated middle class latte drinkers are really struggling financially, doesn't this run counter to the entire "rich latte drinking liberals" stereotype?

Sounds more like the educated middle class is voting its economic self-interest same as everybody else, but somehow, we're not *supposed* to.

That privilege is reserved for the genuine working class and the rich.

If we vote our self-interest, we're somehow communists. But interestingly, real communists have a similar contempt for the educated middle class, along with a similar worship of the "real" working class ... that is as long as the working class didn't challenge the Powers that Be.

That's the hidden agenda of all this intellectual bashing that goes on.

How do I know this? Could be that pesky education. And I also lived in Eastern Europe for a while, which was made possible by that pesky education. There's a reason the developing world values education. They know that knowledge is more than a route to economic advancement; it is power.

  • Shocked, shocked we are, there's mysogyny going on ...

If you're a professional woman who aspires beyond the entry level in any field you know perfectly well that sexism is a fact of life. You can let it stop you or you can simply account for it and barrel on through.

That's what Hillary Clinton did, and while I'm an Obama supporter, I appreciated her for doing it if only because what is covert and unspoken in many women's lives was spread out for all to see. Because while many people (myself included) do not support her candidacy for rational reasons (she's not sufficiently anti-war enough for me), there was no denying that there was a lot of irrational antipathy out there too.

  • Oh, I think some people agree ...

Those are great examples. But consider also the original Star Wars trilogy. Nobody agrees on which of the three films are the best —

Empire Strikes Back. Empire Strikes Back. Empire Strikes Back

That's why I hate Ashton Kutcher so very very very much. He's helping Americans to keep believing that nerd = male.

God. Me too! And of course the highest aspiration for a male nerd is to get with one of the pretty cheerleaders and spend 45 minutes plus commercials "correcting" her "stupidity."

  • It's interesting that you assume I didn't know that

The previous season of B&theG included a female geek. Do your homework nenxt time. ;)

How many seasons have there been? One female geek on one season verses how many male geeks/moronic females over how many seasons?

I stand by my statement: the show is skeezy.

I think that there is nothing particularly feminist or radical about a show like SitC, and then we get a post like this:

Carrie cannot even cook, the most basic requirement for adulthood.

And then I realize wherein the feminism lies. I mean a show revolving around a woman who cannot cook!!!!! OH MY GOD! CALL THE PATRIARCHY POLICE!

  • and of course you would say the same if Indiana Jones couldn't cook ....

[Read the article: "Sex and the City"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Not.

Besides you miss the point. Okay, yes, I was mocking you, because, let's face it, you stood on a box and yelled MOCK ME PLEASE! with your prim proclamation of disapproval of a person who, let's face it, isn't real. (I mean did anyone else have a Murphy Brown flashback there or was it me)

But my point was check it out: Carrie can't cook! Not only can't she cook, she doesn't want to cook, she can't be bothered to cook. Not because she couldn't, if she wanted to or needed to she'd put on an apron and whip out the Julia Child. But it's not a priority for her.

Nothing is made of this fact on the show. She doesn't throw away her apron in a I Am Woman, and I SHALL not be MADE to cook moment. She is not rebelling because Carrie is not a rebel. She's just living her life.

And therein lies the feminism. It simply doesn't matter anymore if a woman can cook!!!! It's not a statement about her value as a woman one way or another anymore.

If you're a guy, or a much younger woman, and don't get why this is radical, watch Bend it like Beckham and get back to me.

  • Hee!

There was the episode when she was spending the weekend in the country with Aidan...she made the most inept, cringe-worthy attempt to make a pie. Of course, that was nothing compared to her hysteria over seeing a squirrel.

    I forgot.

    :D

I guess sexist morons make me see virtue where none exists ....
