The Iraq War is a brilliant success for the military-industrial complex and one of its great leaders, VP Cheney. Think about the money that has been made -- just blows my mind. Don't you just admire (shall I admit to man love?) a guy like Cheney who gets what he wants no matter what. I'm personally sick and tired of all the whiners who agonize over a little collateral damage. Gheesh. If you want something, figure out a way to get it. Good luck!
The answer depends in part on the age of the child.
As Mark Danner has said: The world is divided into two types of people, those who read and question and those who listen and believe (my paraphrase). Religious people believe that a typical child can be turned into a listening believer. I don't know if this is true, but I wouldn't want to provide a religious group the opportunity to test their theory on my child. Are there camps that teach critical thinking instead of uncritical faith?
An older child is probably already set into one of Danner's two categories and his or her experience at a religious camp would likely have a negligible effect.
The answer also depends on the type of religious camp. An Al Queda religious camp, full of fun activities and studies in chemistry and biology, should be avoided. Many so-called Christian fundamentalists believe in an Armageddon around the corner and are as scary as the so-called Islamic fundamentalists.
Without question, the WWII generation achieved the most impact. The greatest generation gave us the military-industrial complex. Thanks, a lot.
The boomers are not total losers. In 1968, when 18-21 year olds could vote for the first time, the majority of this coterie voted for Nixon. Many of this group never found a war they didn't like, never found a military base that might be closed nor a military weapon that might not be built. So the Greatness continues.
What a bunch of whiners! If your job is not sufficiently rewarding, I suggest you become a hedge fund manager.

It's too bad every American cannot be successful. I try my best to live among these losers in a spirit of harmony and joie de vivre. But no, they are never satisfied despite the opportunities our country provides. Gheesh.
When a trans-rational mind employs his or her upgraded knowledge method, I do so hope it will be for something of interest to the rest of us. Might you consider discovering a cure for cancer? Maybe a solution to the energy crisis? Can you discover a cheap and convenient way to travel to a neighboring galaxy, say Andromeda? Maybe something easier might be achievable, like a recipe for cholesterol-free fried chicken.
I don't expect you to cease navel-gazing immediately, but perhaps you might, as a gesture of your uber-humanity, in your spare time, mind you, achieve solutions to some of these practical problems of life. In the meantime, we worker-bees can make food, clothing and shelter that you may use, if you ever concern yourself with such mundane matters.
Thank you for your efforts at making a better world, such as they are.
Why can't we be tolerant of all nonscientific beliefs? The answer, according to Goya (title for an etching) is "The sleep of reason brings forth monsters."
In today's world a person has to be an utter moron to argue for tolerance of all superstitions from the Iron Age. We've got to deal today with crazy fundamentalist Moslems and crazy fundamentalist evangelicals. They concur on one thing. It would be a blessing to have Armageddon in the Middle East.
Cary recommends a dispassionate scientific observation of such demented psychological states. We already know these nuts are out of contral and threaten to take us down with them. Cary's Hamlet-like response is inappropriate and irresponsible. Once the scientific facts are in, it's time to act, not dither around.
When the Aztec priests come to take your beating heart to make the sun rise the next morning, it's time to make your move, Cary!
The main reason voters are malleable is ignorance. Irrationality is a consequence of ignorance: there is no point in applying logic when there are no facts immediately available to support a possible argument.
Why are voters ignorant? In many cases, it's just a family tradition.
With so many, many guns already in the USA, gun control laws are pointless.
By the way, the Scalia's argument that handguns are needed to defend one's home is silly. A shotgun is a far superior defensive weapon. Handguns are useful because they can be concealed easily by criminals.
Sexual pleasure requires novelty, with the exception, naturally, of relations between brain dead persons. Young people are ill-advised to give up exciting romantic sex for pedestrian middlebrow moments of relief. Give the woman a sweet keepsake so that she will inevitably wonder later in life if she made a bad mistake in her youth. Then find a new twenty-somethng or other love.
We've all learned a lot about our fellow Americans because of the docile response of passengers to TSA rules. We know now that we live amidst countless millions of easily frightened sheep. I am ashamed to be an American when I stand in a TSA line.
The purpose of a statue to a baseball player is to sell baseball tickets. Don't you believe the planned statues will achieve the required end?
Washington, D.C., has many statues, many to generals on horseback. Their purpose is to sell war and they have been doing a helluva job.
