I think Blumenthal may be pretty much on the money here, and we can only hope that the cyst at the center of our present administration ruptures before permanent and catastrophic damage is done. Meanwhile we can thank our lucky stars Great Britain hasn't yet given up on bringing us back into the Empire, because GCHQ is going, quite seriously, to have to shoulder a great deal more of our intelligence gathering than it already has (and if you think it hasn't you just don't have the right hookup to the "Donut"). We can also thank the great outlaw spirit of this nation that the NSA has never allowed a director since Canine to actually know what's going on in there (and again, if you don't think this is so, well, bite me, I'm tired of trying to prove stuff I can't even talk about). None of this means the impending collapse of the CIA (or, more likely, its being subsumed by the DIA) is OK. It's not even close to OK. The writer who seems to think it is, the one who believes our intelligence community is only serving the current administration and its covey of vampires and assorted perverts, is an example of cynicism run amok. The CIA ought to be saved or at least salvaged, and it can be, but the only sure way is to break the back of the current administration, which means delivering a coup de grace upon the sitting President, a la Nixon (only a much bigger, heavier, coup, or perhaps a coupe) and enduring the subsequent and necessary constitutional crisis this is going to cause.

They're just a bunch of hicks, southerners at that - Jesus, how much more worthless can someone's birth stock be to the Harvard-Berkley Axis of Evil that long ago took control of the Left in this country so that there would appear to be no middle ground? There is a reason that facism IS imminent, if not already established, in the country, and a reason why these truly evil "Christians" of the far, far right pose a horrendously real danger to all of us; and that reason is that the liberal, left-leaning portion of us has so lost its way in the dark forest of faithlessness and self-aggrandizement that you are absolutely blind to the realities of daily life in what you laughingly refer to as "Red States." Trust me - oh, why bother - just keep reading and smirking - it's not just the Red States. As I have complained before, I daily have my email box deluged with forwarded crap from dearly beloved family members who have already fallen under the combine of the Cross Wrapped In The Flag. I get it every fucking day of my life, from people I grew up with, went to church with, fought and played with, and it is no different, anymore, than the bullshit from moveon.org that takes up the REST of my space! The only difference is the MoveOn people truly believe they are more enlightened, which is why they were unable to stop the Bush-as-Messiah juggernaught either time it rolled over our fair land. The only thing that will stop it, by the way, is its own stupid evil behind what Bill Burroughs called "unseeing insect eyes," blinded by the aphrodisaic of Power and Control. But being 180 degrees opposite that does not make the left the One All-seeing Eye. It just makes the whole world blind.

To Ms. Goldberg, for the love of God, keep pounding away. To all those Voices Crying in the Wilderness, I pray (yes mama, the man said "pray"!) you will keep on shouting at the top of your collective lungs. It may at least keep people discussing the matter, keep it on the table and in the public awareness, until the day the Double-Headed Eagle, standing sentinel over both the Left and the Right from the Center, will once again rise to re-establish a Rule of the Wise, that Novus Ordo Seclorum upon which we all wait and assume will somehow bring itself about. Let us pray the center holds til then.
