Obama wins hands down!
[Read the article: Americans more ready for a black president than a woman?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Perhaps the real issue here is neither racism nor sexism, but likeablity. It seems to me that of the two, Barack Obama wins hands down as being far more likeable when compared with HRC. I am a white woman in my 60's and a staunch democrat who has observed Hillary Rodham Clinton since she and Bill appeared on the national scene years ago. Even though I have made numerous genuine attempts over the years to like and admire her, I simply am incapable of ignoring the fact that she is frequently off-putting, snide, shrill, as well as an utter opportunist who drops her "g's" whenever it suits her and lies, like her husband, at the drop of a hat, foolishly thinking that the public cannot see through her, a most unattractive trait which reeks of condescension. And by the way, all of these qualities are just as unappealing in a male candidate as well. Like her supporter, Geraldine Ferraro, a sharp tongue turns many folks off. It has also caused problems for Bill Clinton recently as he ran about the countryside making all sorts of ridiculous comments while wagging his finger at anyone who dares to disagree with the Clintons, who for some reason seem to think they are entitled to another four years of rent free life in the White House compliments of the taxpayers. But I digress. Hillary is bright and does her homework etc., and she very well might be the next president, but she is not someone I would care to spend five minutes with...and she would probably feel the same way about me, but I am not running for the highest office in the land. She, however, is, and so far, she loses hands down as far as likeability goes. And John McCain is right up there with her with her. One can certainly argue that a president doesn't necessarily have to be likeable, but after George the feckless and arrogant Bush, it would sure be a treat to watch and listen to Barack Obama for the next four years. He is not only likeable, but he is a brilliant man of integrity who truly wants to change the way things are done in Washington. And that is not a sexist remark !! It is the unvarnished truth as I see it !

Who is Cokie Roberts???
[Read the article: Cokie Roberts speaks out on the war on behalf of the American people]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I rarely watch tv news, especially the Sunday Morning bloviators, so I didn't hear Cokie's inane remarks. Lucky me ! What a precious waste of one's time to listen to these folks, most of whom are contemptuous of those of us who reside beyond the confines of the Washington Beltway.

Good for NARAL !!
[Read the article: Clinton supporters push back against NARAL endorsement]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Woe is me ! Fool that I am, I always thought that as an American, I was free to make my own choices, be it over my own body or which political candidate I support. Now, along comes Hillary Clinton and her rabid claque of Congressional women to tell me that I am a traitor to the feminist cause because I am an Obama supporter and was pleased to hear that NARAL chose to endorse him. Along with the endorsement of John Edwards, the NARAL endorsement speaks to the all-American concept of freedom of choice and is also a sharp reminder to the Clinton campaign that this quaint notion still matters.

Tennessee, a Place Where the KKK Was Born
[Read the article: Tennessee Dem leader suggests Obama has terrorist connections]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am not at all surprised by the ignorance and racism of Fred Hobbs and Lincoln Davis. According to Vanderbilt University's Center for Research on Human Development in Nashville, Tennessee ranks 49th in both elementary and secondary education and 50th in total education spending per capita. Racism and ignorance are all too willing partners in the efforts to smear Barack Obama. I live in New England, and I too have heard more ignorant and fearful remarks about Obama than I care to count. We can also blame media outlets like the dreadful Fox "News", Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh etal for much of this garbage. As for Tennessee, we should not be shocked by such absurd implications given the fact that not too long ago, lynching was a popular sport throughout the South and speaking of terrorists, Tennessee was the original home of the KKK. Need I say more? Men like Hobbs and Davis are, sad to say, a dime a dozen. Men like Barack Obama are very rare indeed and we should be extremely grateful and proud of the fact that he has come this far all things considered.

And I am the Queen of Rumania
[Read the article: Barack Obama is a Muslim, and other stories]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Barack Obama is a Muslim..and as Dorothy Parker wrote, " I am the Queen of Rumania." The malicious and utterly stupid lies circulating on the internet only serve to emphasize the extent of the ignorance in this country and how little the media has done to dispel them. So long as the mainstream news organizations are the willing mouthpieces of the corporate world, and as we saw with the run-up to the Iraq invasion, they remain unwilling to speak truth to power, we can expect more of the same.

Michelle is a breath of fresh air and I am not afraid of her at all !
[Read the article: Who's afraid of Michelle Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Speaking as a 66 year old white woman from New England, I think Michelle Obama, like her husband, is a breath of fresh air. It is long past the time for this country and its ridiculous adolescent minded media to grow up and start dealing with the pressing issues of the day instead of nitpicking about the candidates' spouses. Obama is an excellent candidate who would make a terrific leader. Michelle, despite all the moronic trash talking on tv and the internet, is a bright, loving spouse and mother who would only enrich his presidency. Not that this is going to change anything or enlighten any of the ignoramuses and loonies on the right, but I am delighted to see that Obama is the democratic nominee. That in itself is a miracle given the nature of the racist beast that continues to haunt us. Thank you Ms. Kaplan for your clarity, insight and honesty.
