  • "Stuff happens." D. Rumsfeld, former Secretary of Defense

[Read the article: Bush's old world disorder]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

In the not so immortal words of the once and infamous Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, ( remember him? ), "stuff happens". Surely it is an understatement to say that the "stuff" that has and continues to happen under George W. Bush and his corrupt and incompetent neo-conservation minions is among some of the worst "stuff" to have happened in the history of this republic. And even if a democrat is elected to the presidency in 2008, can you even begin to imagine how long it will take to straighten out the disorder that will be the Bush legacy???

  • A genuine American Hero !

Malcolm W. Nance: Yea ! The Bush Administration and the U.S. Congress: Nay, Nay, Nay !

  • Share the wealth !

[Read the article: Who wants to be a millionaire -- on strike?]

"The Labor Movement means just this: It is the last noble protest of the American people against the power of incorporated wealth." Wendell Phillips, abolitionist and great antislavery orator of the 19th century.

  • Amen !

[Read the article: Romney and Huckabee's religious intolerance ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Amen to Joe Conason's excellent column on the lack of tolerance within today's republican party. I came of age in the 1950's and was raised by a staunch conservative republican father who was also one of the most tolerant of men. He has been gone for over 30 years, but the lessons about tolerance he taught me remain among the most valuable I have ever learned. He would be deeply disturbed and saddened to see what has become of his GOP. As Sinclair Lewis once wrote: "When facism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."

  • More of the same from Paglia

[Read the article: Hillary without tears]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

While Ms. Paglia bashes Hillary for being meansprited etc. , how about the contemptous attitudes of so many folks in the media itself ? Sadly, this increasingly adolescent-minded culture thrives on petty cruelty, the idiocy of extreme competitiveness and the godawful character assassination associated with the likes of the Swift Boaters, Matt Drudge, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Ms. Paglia herself and far too many others to list. Although I am not an admirer of Clinton, I would suggest that Paglia take a long hard look at her own ridiculous opinions which to my way of thinking have done little to enlighten her readers or raise the level of political discourse in this country which has sunk to an all time low.

  • The Dark Ages of Bush, Cheney etal

[Read the article: Our shameful Guantanamo anniversary]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Whether or not the director of the ACLU is the author of this article is irrelevant. The fact remains that, under the so-called "leadership" of the feckless and corrupt George Bush, the U.S. finds itself mired in a very dark time. Along with slavery, the extermination of the native American tribes, McCarthyism and other shameful periods, the concentration camps established by Bush, Cheney etal leave an indelible mark upon the pages of our history. One can only hope that one day soon, we will be rid of this immoral, inhumane and unenlightened gang who have inhabited the White House and the halls of Congress for the last 8 years.

  • Lies, lies and more lies

[Read the article: "We're all fascists now"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As soon as I read that Mussolini was a socialist, I knew I was in for a real treat. Jonah Goldberg is yet another ignoramus from the far-right whose calculated lies and revisionist distortions do not belong on the pages of a respected on-line publication like Salon.com. Please, no more of this ridiculous drivel. Your readers deserve better. I don't need to waste my precious time and and money reading the likes of Lucianne Goldberg's son. The apple has definitely not fallen far from the tree.

  • An American Tragedy

[Read the article: Another San Francisco tragedy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It goes without saying that this is a enormous tragedy and my heart goes out to all those affected by it. However, as a former resident of SF, despite its incredible natural beauty and immense wealth, there is also incredible poverty, homelessness, drug addiction and everything else associated with the dark side of the American landscape which has been made even darker by the godawful policies of the current administration. Until we, as a nation, come to grips with, and are willing to solve the numerous social problems facing us, the violence and horror will continue.

  • Missionaries in the White House

[Read the article: Mike Huckabee's mission from God]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Don't we already have a nitwit in the Oval Office who is on a mission from God ? And look at the dreadful results? I also suspect God has his/her hands full maintaining the universe without having to be concerned with the foolish ways of simpleminded humans who, it seems, often end up in seats of power. No more missionaries in the White House, please !

  • Obama's time has come !

[Read the article: Quote of the day: Obama on Clinton ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I completely agree with Senator Obama. At this point, the Clintons and all of their aides, staff etc. and any others who need their jobs, will do anything, even if it means destroying their own party to win the nomination. If the big wigs in the Democratic party decide in Clinton's favor, they deserve to lose in November, although I dread the thought of a McCain presidency. For millions of Americans all across the political spectrum, Barack Obama is a breath of fresh air whose time has come, while the Clinton's are past of a stale historical narrative which has run its course. I am female, 65, white and I decided long ago that I would not support any candidate who voted for the fiasco that is Iraq nor can I, for the life of me, believe HRC when she said she was deceived by the Bush administration and felt she must vote to invade Iraq. She is far too savvy and wily a politican to buy into such an obvious lie, but apparently it was politically expedient for her to support the war. Because of her vote and the votes of all those in congress who went along with the Bush bullies, thousands of Americans have died and thousands more have been maimed both mentally and physically not to mention the countless deaths of innocent Iraqis and the destruction of their country. The economy and our reputation on the international scene is in shambles, the war grinds on, our healthcare system is broken, etc. etc. So I say,it's definitely time for a change and I, for one, am more than willing to give Barack Obama a chance.
