A friend's son asked how babies were made when he was about 4. My friend explained it in a straight forward manner, sweating, hoping he was doing okay. Without missing a beat his son asked "so then, how do you make cement?"
That was years ago and it still cracks me up every time I think of it.
I was about to go outside and find brick to throw through my own TV set, but then figured that wouldn't help. I didn't think it was possible to dislike someone more than I have come to dislike HRC, but Charlie Gibson and Georgie Boy have now made it a horse race.
Truly disgusting. I am ashamed of our press corps. I am ashamed that any reputable reporter would remain silent about how horrifically irresponsible this dribble is. But 99% will, except Fox, which will somehow spin it as being ulta-liberal.
No wonder this country is in such dire straits.
I know that Glenn said that he was speaking with some lawmakers recently, but what sort of feedback does the Democratic party take from sites like this? There must be Obama & Clinton staff members reading these things, right? What about Pelosi and Reid?
Is it possible that they aren't? Is it possible that they think David Broder has more insight?
It seems to me that just repeating what Steve and Glenn are saying would be enough to win.
Does anyone reading this in Washington work on a Democratic staff? a Republican staff? Are there people on every staff who simply monitor the media - both in support and in opposition? How does this work?
Thanks.
Obama's answer was fine for people with a functioning brain. For the others, it is moot. But I wonder why they don't mention that this is a recent trend. Not only didn't George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson or Abraham Lincoln wear a flag pin, but neither did Reagan, GHW Bush, or Ford.
On the other hand, google produces lots of images of Nixon, Haldeman and Liddy wearing them.
What can a Republican say when St Ronnie didn't wear one (at least in any pictures I could find)? I think Ronnie knew that it screws up the suit fabric and looks stupid on a nice suit.
I don't understand why a sitting senator announces what he proposes the government do and then not do anything. If he actually thinks this is a good idea, why is he not sponsoring legislation? He's a big wig. He could probably get it to committee. Doesn't it seem preposterous to "propose" something as if he were a member of a think tank and not one of people in charge of making laws.
It reminds me of abortion. The Republicans had the white house and both houses of congress. How is abortion not outlawed? I understand it would have to withstand a supreme court challenge, but it would nonetheless be on the books while that process played out. But it never happened. The press never asked "hey, why don't you put forth this legislation if this is one of your most cherished ideals?"
Based on what exactly are you convinced that Hillary is better prepared to lead this country than Obama?
I know she keeps telling us it's so and creative arithmetic tells us that she has 35,000 years of experience and Obama was alternating between sucking on his mother's teat and a crack pipe the day before yesterday, but seriously... what makes you think this?
Even leaving aside the ethically dubious nature of her approach to this campaign, on a purely practical level she has run a TERRIBLE campaign. She has frittered away a not only a fortune but every single advantage one could imagine for her. Her machine will probably salvage a 6 or 7 point win tomorrow, but by Clintonian standards that makes Obama the comeback kid, no?
I understand she has faced a sexist press, but since she would never have been running for President of anything beyond (maybe) NOW if she weren't married to Bill Clinton, maybe she has to take the good with the bad on that one.
Good point about the daisy ad. Can one of the HIllary supporters here explain how this is (and the 3 AM) AD) qualitatively different than the 'daisy ad"?
I mean different in that this one won't work, but honestly, aside from that? That has been morally excoriated for decades for fear mongering.
Where the hell is WES today?
For all that, though, on the night before the election, not much had changed from when the candidates first landed here.
"Not much" as long as you don't consider having a 20-25% lead in the poll evaporate down to 5-7% in a few weeks "much". I mean, really, what 15-20 percentage points between friends? Clinton and her salon.com support staff will simply move the goal posts again and declare victory for Clinton no matter what actually happens.
The Clinton rule is that caucuses and primaries only count if Clinton wins. When Bill Clinton reduced a 20 point margin to single digits, he claimed victory as the Comeback Kid. A few weeks ago Bill was saying that she had to win big to stay in the race. But you can bet that if tomorrow night she squeaks by with 3% victory, she'll be saying "On to Indiana!"
