@ J M F Q
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You can keep asserting all you want the factoid that big time sports must support other sports because of the sheer amount of money that is coming in from bowls or conferences or ticket sales etc. Keep saying it. Maybe it will become true. And maybe WMD will turn up in Iraq, but the facts on the ground are that it is not true.
Go the ncaa.org/library and look at the studies. Read the Knight Commission report. Read THE EMPIRICAL EFFECTS OF COLLEGIATE ATHLETICS: AN INTERIM REPORT.
As hard to believe as it may seem, net revenue is very small from all but a handful of the top schools because as revenues expand, so do costs. Hire more assistant coaches. Get state of the art videographers to create personalized game films for 50 different players each week and have them loaded on to their personal ipods. Hire better chefs to lavish the training table with the finest steaks to help you recruit. Hire extra tutors. Charter better jets. Stay in better hotels. Bring in recruits and lavish them with expensive attention while being sure you don't give them a sweatshirt, because that would violate NCAA rules.
But facts don't matter because you JUST KNOW that those sports must be making money. They are. But they're also spending it and they ain't spending it on women's rowing, Title IX be damned.

Pathetic Joan
[Read the article: Michelle Obama on "ignorant" America]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]God Joan why didn't reassure us all that you aren't concerned about his COCAINE use? Maybe you could say he's not like JESSE JACKSON. Good Lord, it is pathetic. It seems to me you might as well just say "Salon readers, I believe you are idiots."
This is a non-story that you gave a headline to in order to publicize the charges while pretending to be dismissing them.
You are as vile as HRC in these gutter tactics and when the Democrats lose in November you will both go on TV and say the american people let the world down again. No Joan, YOU are letting the world done with this self-evidently sloppy partisan coverage.

Mistaking a feature for a bug
[Read the article: Leahy: Clinton should quit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]To borrow programmer's metaphors, destroying Obama's chances in November is not a bug in Hillary's code, it is a feature. In fact, at this point, it is the sole feature of the program that is still running.
I liken it Iraq. We all saw the video of Cheney explaining in 1991 why it would be have caused chaos to depose Sadaam. So it is not like they didn't know that things were not going to be roses and democracy. Therefore, we have to assume that there was another reason: revenge against Sadaam no matter what the cost, a desire to show HW that W had a bigger dick, a desire to see gasoline double in price while giving billions to cronies. take your pick. but it wasn't a lack of understanding what was going to happen.
Likewise, Hillary knows she's not going to win, but she is sure as hell going to destroy Obama's chances before she crawls back under her rock.

Did anyone else think that Curry lost it for Davidson?
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I know it's harsh to blame Curry - without whom obviously wouldn't have been anywhere near that game -- but man, he got shut down and refused to play team ball. He consistently forced shots that he did not have rather than pass and in the end it cost them.
Was that bad coaching or selfish play or necessary?

Here's an idea...
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I know that snark is the sole consideration for War Room items these days, but how about you actually address the comment made. Williams was absolutely and irrefutably wrong to take money to shill for the program and not acknowledge it and the Bush administration's attempts to nullify the press are well documented and disgusting, but what about the actual statement?
Is it wrong? As a university professor I see students with good SAT scores and grades who are dumbfounded by the slightest criticism of their work. High schools apparently teach now that any opinion that is nearly equally valid and worthy of an A or B.
As a parent, I am disturbed by the practice of giving every athlete a trophy at the end of each season. Not only does it clutter up the house, it devalues real accomplishments later. What was so wrong with giving every kid a tshirt or cap to play in for the season which they keep. There. No need for trophies, but in my children's leagues they get them for showing up (or not even).
This is not a left or right issue. Ask the Intelligent Design folks.
But I guess because Armstrong is a jerk who did something wrong previously, we NEVER have to listen to anything he ever has to say again and in fact are required to mock it without addressing any of the argument's merits.
You're doing a heckuva job here Alex. If Joan weren't a complete imbecile, someone else would probably be writing war room.

@Sobe One
[Read the article: Obama: Clinton "deserves to be able to run"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]she has won every single state that counts for the GE
SobeOne, please please explain this one to me. I am baffled. I keep hearing that HRC won the big states in the Democratic Primary and therefore she is going to do better in the General. Is your contention really that because she won a majority of democrats in NY, NY is going to vote for McCain in November?
Is that really your argument? REally? That smells of desperation more than even her ridiculous concern for the voters of Michigan when she was the only one on the ballot.
Just to let you know NY is staying blue. So is RI. So is MA. So is MI.
Good lord, if ever there was an argument that was pure sophistry, it is that one.
