@robby-g

No! I detest Giuliani more than any candidate in living memory. He was truly -- and without hyperbole -- a danger to a republic founded on the rule of law. I think Giuliani with the NSA, CIA, DOJ and FBI under his command is about as close to fascism as we can imagine.

However as a NY state resident (and one who lived in NYC during the Giuliani regime), I worry about selective prosecution and the use of the government's unlimited legal budget to harass and badger people who disagree with them politically. It is clear from the Ashcroft/Gonzalez DOJ that this is a real concern, not something from the minds of conspiracy theorists. There really are lots of people in positions of power who will not hesitate to fundamentally abuse our civil liberties as long as they can get away with it.

Although I vote Democrat 95% of the time, I am still disturbed when I see this type of behavior from anyone regardless of party affiliation. It is like Latin America, I may agree with the goals of left wing groups to bring social justice to the people, but in the end, left wing death squads are just as evil as right wing death squads. The ends don't justify the means. Spitzer has shown himself to be as corrupt as any self-serving, ambitious prosecutor ever, but because he went after rich fat cats, the left remains silent.

It is like the Branch Davidians. That was a horrible example of excessive government force and in Britain Janet Reno would have resigned in disgrace. But here there was not a peep of protest from the left because the people who were targeted weren't like us: they were crazy, they were religious, they were southern, so it is okay. No, it is not okay.

Ken Starr was an evil partisan who will hopefully rot in hell. Yet, once under oath, Bill Clinton has two choices: tell the truth or plead the fifth. He doesn't get to lie and then say it was no big deal. Neither does Scooter Libby.

We have to move beyond partisan rationalizing. It is not OK if you are a Republican or a Democrat.

Private Matter?

A private matter? You've got to be freaking kidding me.

An affair is a private matter. This is against the law. Now the fact that I think paying for sex is against the law is insanely stupid (and I do, how can it be illegal to sell something it is legal to give away?), I still don't get to break the law.

It is not civil disobedience if you only come out publicly after you get caught. If the law is unjust, then you openly break the law, get arrested, and fight it in court. That's civil disobedience.

We don't get to choose which laws we honor and which we don't.

Renounce. Reject. Linked. Involved. Whatever.

I laugh every time I read that hiring a prostitute while governor is really only a problem because the NY Times used the word "linked" in its headline. This is ludicrous and it is embarrassing to the people who keep making this claim.

Let me tell you, I read that headline and didn't think that he was running a prostitution ring. I read the headline and thought he was hiring hookers. There is nothing inherent in the usage of "linked" which implies organizing.

Set up? Just like Marion Barry. They practically forced him to break the law and cover his illegal activities. Why can't good, well-intentioned Democrats accept that Spitzer is wrong, he threw away his career to get his rocks off and he should be put to the curb like yesterday's trash.

Is it unfair that there is a criminal in the white house who is not being impeached for much worse crimes? absolutely, but that is Congress's fault for not taking action and convincing the American people to get behind that action. Didn't your mothers tell you that two wrongs don't make a right. Fine, W. is responsible for destroying our constitution and killing 100,000s of innocents. But why does that mean that the governor of NY should be allowed to break the law and stay in office, even if it is a stupid law?

I honestly believe it is a stupid law that law abiding citizens with a license to carry a concealed weapon in the state of NY cannot bring that gun on to a state college campus, especially in light of the shootings the seem to happen every month now. But you know what, if I brought an otherwise perfectly legal gun on to campus, I would be arrested and thrown in jail. Because it is a felony, even if it is a stupid law.

No difference.

Scorched Earth

Hillary, despite the desperately myopic campaign she's run, isn't dumb. She can count. She knows she has no realistic chance of getting this nomination. At this point, she is just trying to Tonya-Harding Obama -- take out his knees, cripple him. Then -- if thanks to her constant, under-handed, neo-con, Rovian attacks -- he is fatally wounded and loses in November, wll that just clears the way for another Clinton run in 2012 when she will be 65, which has to be her last chance.

She is a disgrace, plain and simple. She has showed time and again that she cares more about her personal ambition than her party or country. Call it narcissism. Call it racism. Call it whatever you like, but this campaign has confirmed that she is not fit to run this country.
