Joan, Joan, Joan....

I see the first two posters beat me to glaringly obviously bullshit statements in this piece already. The biggest laugher has to be "Even Hillary Clinton supporters seemed awed by what Obama had done, as am I" to imply that "i" and "Hillary Clinton supporters" are not in the same camp.

Joan, seriously, if salon's coverage of this campaign is not a conscious reflection of your political feelings, then you really need to do some soul searching and self-reflecting. Don't hide behind Glenn, the one independent part of this site (well, King too, but he doesn't count).

As for not seeing this coming, wasn't there poll after poll which predicted just this (once you figured in second preference votes), including the last two big polls (DMR and the Zogby)? You might not have wanted this result, but it was clearly a distinct possibility. Of course, no one could have seen the levees breaking in Katrina except for all those published reports which predicted just this.

Geesh, this campaign's brought out the worst in you and salon.

emotion v. clear eyed rationality

This has to be on purpose, right? This pro-HRC schtick? Why don't you just ask Rove for some more code words for calling Democratic men "women"? He has a whole list as a macro on his pc.

Walter here might believe in Clinton like a Peter Pan audience believes in fairies, but believing is not going to make it so. Clinton has no growth potential. She is a known quantity and her support is topped out. Democrats who want to retake the WH need to drop her like second period French class.

Some numbers from Iowa

I looked up the election results from 2000 and 2004 and was surprised by what I found.

(Numbers are rounded)

2000: GORE

Bush: 634,000

Gore: 638,500

Buchanan: 5,000

2004: BUSH

Bush: 752,000

Kerry: 742,000

Nader: 6,000

So, while it is derided as lillywhite and non-representative, Iowa has switched back and forth from the R to the D column and back again over and over -- and not as a bellweather since they have often voted against the eventual winner (Dukakis, Ford, Gore, Nixon over Kennedy).

But, 2004 was a historic turnout and 2008 seems to show voter mobilization of a different order of magnitude. I think this shows rather than just being angry, people are motivated for change. The fact that so many more people cuacused with the Dems also seems like a good sign.

I am cautiously optimistic while reminded myself of the Dems' consistent ability to lose ass-kicking contests to one legged men.

UPPING THE ANTE: Defamation suit filed

So, Clemens has decided to file suit against McNamee for defamation. It reminds me of when Oscar Wilde sued the Marquess of Queensbury for calling him a "posing Somdomite" (sic). The trial that resulted cleared Queensbury as being justified and led to Wilde being prosecuted and jailed for gross indecency.

If nothing else, he must be willing to say under oath that McNamee is lying. This should be interesting.

huh?

I have so many opportunities for this country

What does that sentence even mean? I have so many opportunities for this country? Huh? It seems nonsensical and self-centered at the same time.

obama all stars

I agree thatHRC would make an interesting choice for SCOTUS. By why stop the parlor game there? Let's fill out his whole admin.

Bill for world bank or UN.

Richardson at state.

Gore obviously at interior.

clark at defense.

Clarke as NSA.

Krugman at treasury or the fed.

Fitzgerald as AG.

This more fun than fantasy football. Now we just have to hope that Clinton and theDNC don't seat the Michigan delegates and steal the nomination.

pre-emption

Rudy is a genius. He has killed satire by pre-emption. He'll put a generation of comics out of business if he's elected.

Holy carp! The iphone upgrades are super.

This does not matter to folks who don't have iphones, but the upgrades seem pretty great. I am looking forward to taking control of my home page, adding bookmarks to my gmail to my home page and having a better maps function.

More importantly, I am happy to see apple living up to the promise that the iphone was different not because of its features alone, but because it could (and would) be substantially improved with each new software upgrade.

I just want to say...

... that my iphone is freaking amazing. I love it. I love the upgrade I got this morning.

I would like a cut and paste function -- is this harder than it seems to a non-tech person? what's the holdup? -- but otherwise, I am thrilled.

to the apple-haters.... what-ev-er. get a life. let it go. your shit is ugly and soulless even if it may be technically proficient (like say, the music group Rush).
