I haven't seen the whole interview yet by Couric with Palin, but I saw/heard this tidbit: Couric rephrased a question three times, asking Palin to give *specific* examples of McCain, in his senatorial career, supporting anything resembling market regulation (this, of course, because the Deregulator of 26 years suddenly this week changed his tune, then sang another ditty, then tried a campfire song...etc.).
Palin couldn't come with any specific examples. So, her answer was: "I'll have to get you some, and send you some."
A heartbeat away, folks, a heartbeat away.
McCain can go hover around DC, outside the room where the plan-makers are planning. But doesn't he have a staff? Why can't they keep sending their ghostwritten letters and placing ads full of truthiness? And he has a running mate who is NOT a Senator, thus, doesn't need to be in DC for any conceivable reason; can't she keep stumping on the trail? Oh, right. I forgot. She isn't allowed to cross the street by herself, without Daddy Warbucks holding her hand.
Yeah, well, McCain decides (conveniently) to "show up" to "help." If he invented the Blackberry, why can't he understand the concept of teleconferenced meetings? Oh, right, I forgot. He didn't invent the Blackberry. And he doesn't do the Google or email.
Videoconferencing is available now at your local Kinko's.
You raise an excellent point, and the more I've seen/heard the last several hours, the more credence that point gains. This deal is not going to go down as easily as the POTUS may like.
Nonetheless, I remain resolute that McCain is igniting a distraction, debate-wise, with political incentive (not Country First) the priority. I just finished reading a NYTimes article in which Obama remarked [paraphrasing] that if he and McCain need to be in DC Friday night for a vote, they both have big planes with their names on them, they could make it back fairly quickly from Ole' Miss to DC.
If I didn't express myself well, sorry for that, because i agree with you, too!
I wish I could say "whispering those sweet nothings" didn't matter, but obviously they do. I was pointing out the Kinko's option simply to indicate that the actual presence of McCain in DC was not necessary *unless* another agenda was in tow. I guess I didn't make my point too well in my rant ;)
I'm with you, too, about whether this deal is essential, and especially I'm against it being rushed...sorta like a bad-war initiative? And I'm with AKA Smith on being utterly furious, though my innards are telling me I'm somewhere beyond that.
I'm sticking to one thing, however--this IS exactly the right time for a debate from the two people who are being put up to take over this mess in about 40 or so days. We, the people, need to hear what these two candidates have to say. If McCain didn't prepare or can't "wing it" on his own (ahem) knowledge and experience, then....f**k him and the horse he rode in on.
Meanwhile, they've got those two big planes and if they need to use them to get to a DC vote, I have no doubt they'll be in the air. (Meanwhile, screw over Ole' Miss and others in the process, but surely McCain could come up with a bailout plan for that, too.)
Paulson. $700 billion. One man (a year and a half into his current hubris-humongous position--is that right? I think so. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, especially by Elephantitus). No oversight, no questions asked, no judicial review. Please, Mr. Paulson, just spend those tax dollars however you see fit. I trust you--really, really, really.
Ohhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
And newbaygal, your post helped, too.
So did posters on another thread. Intelligence and common sense work for me. I like to learn. I hear adults can do that.
Well, some adults. I'm not at all convinced the theory applies to all...
Well, actually, a LOT of things "get me" when it comes to politics and especially this election cycle, is the supposedly "educated" voters. Low information, high information, no information, yadda freakin' yadda. I know soooooooo many people (mostly family members, but there are others) who should know better! McCain was poison with Rep's before his ascent to the nomination, now he's Mr. Country First?
I'm voting for the rubber chicken...
(Geez, do I really need another pill tonight? I think so, but this time it isn't about the election--it's because my "n" key on my laptop just leaped off the keyboard. Seriously. Leaped. Do you have a*y idea how ma*y words use the letter *? Boy, does my computer whiz [for a livi*g] husba*d have somethi*g to deal with tomorrow if hopes to keep me sa*e!)
But I ca* still spell.......ohhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm
