@Joan Walsh

Seriously. This is the image (photo and story) you chose for Salon's cover on the day of the last presidential debate?

What's next on the cover-article swap of the day--pic of Ayers w/story? pic of Wright w/story? Besides finding this wholly irrelevant to the events of, literally, THE DAY, at least I thought you liked Hillary...why bring this up NOW?

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 10:20 AM

Talk about OFF-TOPIC

Why this article as "cover story"? How many times have Bill's mistakes and Hillary & Bill's marriage been hashed and rehashed (by people who don't know squat about their marriage)? Is there a current sex scandal brewing involving the Prez and/or VP candidates? Is there nothing else going on that could be of much more importance and relevance?!?

Mr E

Your post on "Republicans and the 'Spending Problem'" was spot on. Too bad I've declared a moratorium with family & friends who are intractably Republican on exchanging emails or whatnot featuring a different POV. Otherwise, your comment would be more widely publicized in my circle. But I'll send it to like-minded others who may not have such a cease-fire in place on their end. Anyway, thanks.

"His next comment was profound. "I imagine by my age that you can tell I have experienced much in my life. From all I have seen and done, I have come to a basic conclusion..ein mensch ist ein mensch, ein lumpe ist ein lumpe, egal was er glaubt." To translate..a fine person is a fine person, an idiot is an idiot, no matter what day of the week he prays.

Here's hoping that the "menschen" will prevail."

Thank you so much for your story (and your other posts, as well). Not a bad way to start my day. Me, despite cynicism ratcheted up over the years, much moreso recent years, I still have that Anne Frank sensibility of believing in (or at least seeking out) the inherent good in people. Often difficult, especially regarding the political realm, but to me, an ideal worth a strive.

The "Lina Lamont Moment"...love it. But I can't figure who in the GOP would pull the curtain aside to expose her.

@sternberg & acarsaid

Sarah Palin--the Education President...errr, I mean, VP.

I'm not somebody who thinks anybody has to have a higher education or even a H.S. degree or a GED to be a good person, a good citizen, raise a good family, have a good life. Not having "creds" from academic institutions doesn't mean you aren't smart or well-read (nor does having those "creds" mean you are necessarily smart or well-read).

But for VP potential POTUS, I expect more. Call me crazy. At least give me a hint of intellectual curiosity and a view of the world at large, as is and how one might want it to be. I want more (of course), but bare minimum...?

Dreaming, that be, on the Palin "family values" ticket.

@Women Speak Out On Palin

Thanks for sharing the web site. I've only just started going through it, but it's very interesting and heartening. I'll send it forward to folks in my own circle.

I agree with Hutman...

My husband already decided to take the day after the election off from work. He said he'll either have a major hangover from too much celebrating, or will have been drinking Drano all night!

Xrandadu Hutman

You inspired me. I hope you will consider this a homage and don’t mind me adding more to your creative (and laugh- and irony-inducing) list of “Other Palin-themed entertainments.” I’ve gone with films, in two categories: movie titles that can stand as is; and movie titles to be tweaked to fit. I had fun with this. Whether others will…well, guess I could handle being booed off the stage/forum, too. Heck, dolgarnit, I'm confident and I read Starbuck's coffee-cup quotes! Whadda I have to lose?

Stet on titles in existence:

----Jaws 3

----Apocalypse Now

----Suspicion

----Cabaret

----The Odd Couple

----The Sting

----Valley of the Dolls

----Do the Right Thing

----The Grapes of Wrath

Titles adapted or revamped:

----All About Sarah

----Cool Hand Palin

----Rear to Alaskan Window

----Citizen McPain

----Sarah Mommy Dearest

----The Way We Wish We Weren’t

----Field of Bad Dreams

----Flautist on the Roof

----My Fair Pitbull

----Bristol Palin’s Diary

----Gone with the Wolf

----The Grateful Dead Moose Movie

----Clerks: The Documentary: Exclusive Interview of Palin with Silent Bob

----Sex and the Town of Wasilla

@Durianjoe, blunderdog, bigguns, AJCalhoun

I’ll keep this short—because I acknowledge that I have that “gift of gab” (althought I prefer calling it "loquacious").

To Durianjoe, I share AJC’s apology for going too green in the Celtic direction. But I also agree with his post that MoD has “certainly caused some bad feeling.” And speculation. More the former, from my POV.

To blunderdog, I’d say find a pond, any pond, and just jump in. OT on this site is inevitable and often informative and/or therapeutic. I gather from your post you’ve ventured before ;)

To bigguns, I wish you well on your masochistic upcoming nuptials—which state will you be inviting us to for the ceremony? (Do I have to do an “ELAINE!” scene from “The Graduate” to get in?) In any event, as my Texan Uncle L.B. used to say: “Better thee than me…”

To AJCalhoun, thank you for thanking me for the story about my mom. Also, for going into the breach when I went into retreat. I spent the afternoon/evening “playing” with my precious 3-year-old great-niece and that was joy enough to erase anything MoD dishes out.
