You're keeping the hype alive. I'm very disappointed in recent political coverage on your site (except for Greenwald). I've been waiting for two days to get that inane "Obama boys" article off the site as the Main Event. Then I come in to find yet another cover feature (albeit from another angle than sexism) bombing Obama? Is the trouble with your news cycles...i.e., news five days old appears because your reporters got around to doing the copy/slant?...or are you turning as rigged and seemingly salacious as, say, FauxNews? I'm not looking for that. Even the AP had a more up-to-date and progressive stance today toward this overburdened issue. I've been a premium subscriber for several years, bought memberships for others and recommended to others. At this point, you're NOT giving me anything approaching "fair and balanced" when it comes to election news. I don't even get the blog report anymore, where I tried to stay abreast of and learn about right-wing sentiments. Traister seems present to stir controversy. Others dislike Paglia; I don't even click. But I can't ignore the freakin' cover story...it blares. And right now, you've blared with two in a row (plus others prior to that, also in a row) that don't tell readers squat, only malign candidates, or further rifts within and between the parties (double entendre intended) involved. Really, please, get over it. Just REPORT. Prove that responsible journalism can still happen.
@ claire fontaine
I agree.
Could SALON possibly let the excess coverage of this issue drop?!?
Just goes to show you that misogyny and bad taste aren't limited to one's race, ethnicity, creed, religion...etc.
I gave up on Woody (so appropriately called) as of "Deconstructing Harry." I continue to appreciate many of his earlier films---so, no, Mr. O'Hehir, I did not give up on the artist and his work, per se, despite being disgusted by his morphing from step-daddy to hubbie to Soon-Li Previn---but I did witness a steady evolution in his work into the stuff that wet dreams are made of, at least those of an aging filmmaker who no longer felt the need to disguise his true nature anymore. He did tell us he liked Diane Keaton, but what about his young M. Hemingway and J. Lewis infatuations? Even in viewing the earlier works---comedies and dramas included---the trend is clear.
As for Tyson, well, I can digest the fact that he didn't exactly have the greatest of role models and the best of upbringings. But as for the rape charge---sorry, I don't think he's innocent *at all* IN THE SENSE OF: what the **** were you thinking, dude? Let's all take a guess what was on his mind. She was too young and yes, well, maybe you really were that stupid---is that a reasonable defense? Biting off the ear was savage, but at least contained within an acknowledged violent sport.
And these two are being wined and dined at Cannes. Amazing.
"All I can think to do . . .
Is draw a sad face on my dry erase board (which my mother gave me as a gift after the coverage of election 2000). It's a stupid gesture maybe, but I really don't know what else to do.

I think that was a truly beautiful gesture (and also an inspired gift from your mother).
I suggest everyone read "Big Russ & Me" (and it would sure make a wonderful Father's Day gift). I admire this man for many reasons, both personally and professionally. Please, posters @ Salon--put partisan politics aside for the passing of a good man.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
I only have a couple o' minutes to post, but damn, did I imagine (really truly did I actually hallucinate?) a change in the headline subtitle to "other tall tales" versus "other stories" on ONE link on Salon, but not on the other links to the same article? Did viewer perceptions of this odious main headline actually lead to a...semi-change? "Semi" meaning that Salon says we can click here for "other stories," or click there for "tall tales." Tall tales indeed, and Salon somehow manages to keep perpetuating them. What are you trying to do to this candidate and to the Democrats? If you want McCain, keep it up. It's like a fishing pond recently stocked. I've gotta go. Not my most thought-out, well-conceived comment, but geez, I got mad. Is this site *becoming* the trolls now out to get him? Just my two cents because I was incensed and enthralled and very (and not newly) irritated with the editor of this site. (p.s. believe it or not, even though I hated the original headline, I did think upon seeing it that "other tall tales" would have been preferable--guess somebody agreed, at least partially)
I am one Democrat who is not giving up on Obama because of FISA. I will keep reading and listening and learning and assessing and weighing what he says and does, not about this important issue alone, but about many other important issues at hand. I can't even fathom (without nightmares) a "four more years" with McCain, but I'm also not remaining in the Obama camp because he's the LOTE. Frankly, I don't think he's evil at all. If anybody wants to attack me for that statement, go ahead.
I'm not politically ignorant nor a stupid voter in general. Reading through all these posts has given me an education and I appreciate that immensely. I want to thank the poster who offered the "DiFi" position because that was informative as to the other side of Greenwald's good reporting. But I have to say, the post from sysprog hit both my heart and my brain. So sue me---I like Obama. I'm not ready (as the current politico phraseology goes) to "throw him under the bus."
Pinky was interesting, but I have to say---didn't like the "rapist" analogy.
