Of all the comments on this site, it was finally one line in your particular comment, pages back, that compelled me to respond. That line was:
"And Obama is ours. Not yours."
What arrogance. What "earnest, self-important prattle."
And certainly opposed to what Obama is trying to achieve.
Anybody who truly "gets it" is not playing the generational blame-game.
If this list haunts my REM state tonight, I'm blaming Alex.
Sarah's going home today! YAY!
when you just walk around smiling? I'm having that day. :)
Good.
About to watch Obama speak to the crowd...YAYYYYYYYYYYYY

I realize AZ is probably not going red to blue, but I've certainly been enjoying the PINK!
Down-ticket races will benefit. Popular vote for Obama will benefit, regardless of AZ electoral outcome. I wouldn't like losing our governor Janet Napolitano (what a class act and smart person), if she is asked, and chooses, to bring her talents to another position in a new administration, but I trust that would be all to the good.
First 1/3 of my life--CO. Now going blue. Second 1/3 of my life--NYC. True blue. Getting close to a decade here in AZ--and dreaming of blue.
Wow, neighbor, your plans sound so much better than ours! I couldn't agree more with your take on the big bad sheriff. And yeah, how cool is the new lightrail? Have a great night! Hope we all wake up very happy tomorrow.
Watching for Mac's red state to turn blue! How cool would THAT be?!? Making dover sole w/ rice pilaf for dinner (that oughta distract me for, say, half an hour). Then hunkered on couch with hubby, our respective laptops on our respective laps, me in charge of the remote control for tube coverage (MSNBC mostly, CSpan at points, a little Faux News if we get to gloat!). Beer or whiskey for early evening calming. Champagne in the cooler for celebration time! Ativan on hand in case of high anxiety. Obama shirt on. Yep, looks like we're set.
OBAMA/BIDEN 08!
As my late great uncle used to say..."better thee than me."
The quiet heroes. I'm with you. And as you noted, nothing can ever diminish what they brought to our world.
I think we're both looking forward to *happy* tears tomorrow. I'm with you totally..."I do so hope it it true."
Meanwhile, when you talk to your mom tomorrow (which I have a funny feeling you will :) tell her that a perfect stranger, namely me, sends her all the best. I had my mom living with me for the last year of her life, and prior to that she was with wonderful family members (big extended family!) who also happened to be rabid Republicans, while my mom was a Democrat through and through. She didn't abandon her principles, but was vastly outnumbered, no use fighting the unrelenting tide. I will be forever grateful that she got to spend her last year with Democrats! (She was pretty darn happy about it, too. I could tell a lot of funny stories about what she had to say when she could finally say it!)
You are--indeed--fortunate to share this election with your mom. Savor it. (Clearly, you already are savoring it--cool.) When the champagne gets popped at my place tomorrow night, I will remember to toast you and your mom.
Your words tugged my heart and reminded me again of what tomorrow is all about--our future, placed in careful hands. Thank you.
An exceptionally sweet and strong name.
But let's not forget--it's Madlyn Dunham that brought us here. My heart is with Barack and family. This laudable grandmother beaded our hearts together tonight, a string of pearls and baubles and gems and jewels, uniting us in our shared stories and memories, and taking us into tomorrow...
OF COURSE she loved him dearly! What's not to love?
Peace. Love. Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And chicken with pineappley oniony green-peppery sauce over rice. I'm having dinner now ;)
Lemon meringue pie.......yum scrumptious yummy.
Methinks thou might think of: GEH (give 'em hell) and "goes on" because not only did I love my mom so much, but my handle here is a tribute to my dad...GEH being his cheerleader shout out and "goes on" being the legacy.
Never did a rumba. But do love to dance (with words or otherwise ;)
Beautiful imagery.
"Beyond all minds"...you may just have happened upon my definition (a;though I didn't know it until you said it) of heaven.
No better words than yours..."the Spirit left the frail frame."
I love Frances Cornfield. Period.
Your description of Frances is akin to my grandma, Estella Mahoney. Petite. And spunky. Sorta feisty. And wise. And kind.
I have an Aunt Frances who's pretty darn cool, too.
The words I posted came from a hospice brochure given to me when my 83-year-old mother was "back at home" with us for her final weeks/days. She had the most wonderful birthday before her passing, and believe me, EVERY hospice worker (bless them) who came our way got to hear about it. Her family came together. She was loved. And then she shuffled off the mortal coil. She was ready. And she knew her life had meaning.
"See you in the morning, see you in the evening, see you at suppertime..."
Maybe not everybody knows that tune. Our nightly sing-song ritual, hefting off the wheelchair into the bed (hospital-style), long past the point of being embarrassed about my "roly-poly" diaper change. Because she knew I loved her with all my heart, and me viceee-verseee. When one morning there was no sound from the monitor from her room to mine, at about 5 AM, I knew.
Your words: "Mom smiles beautifully. Even in my memory."
Yes.
