I taught 6th grade social studies one year. The first week, I did not have a flag in my classroom, but I did have a copy of the Constitution on my wall. We all just stood up, put our hands over our hearts and pledged our little hearts out to the air. One day, a student asked what he was supposed to be looking at. Before I could answer, a little girl piped in with "I've just been pledging to the constitution". That's the best pledge I've ever heard. I wish our leaders took it.
Isn't it true that most men don't want custody? As is pointed out in the article, most couples come to an agreement on their own. Many of the divorced men I know don't even visit their children much less want custody. The father of my sister's children dumped his kids when she dumped him. He even rejected his adult son's attempt at re-connecting.
My other sister dumped her alcoholic husband who repeatedly endangered her daughters. Despite the fact he had two dwi arrests, not only did he receive unsupervised visits, the courts refused to believe her when she expressed concern over his continuously erratic behavior. The kids were freaking out and begging not to go because he would lock himself in his room all day and never come out. Other times he would send them out unsupervised(both under 10 years) to play in the small playground near the parking lot. My sister tried for years to have the courts re-evaluate the custody agreement but they believed him, saying she was just a vindictive ex-wife. They finally believed her when he was arrested for heroin possession.
Society does seem to agree that children are better off with their mothers, but men are just as responsible for that as women are.
Is it possible it's a joke. I heard that Stephen Colbert was urging his viewers to contribute. It sounds like something a liberal making fun of conservatives would write.
I teach high school theatre. One of my students,I'll call him John, is a senior now, but came out after his freshman year. He is one of the smartest, coolest, well adjusted people I know. completely comfortable in his own skin. He is very appreciative of his open minded family who have expressed no disappointed or disapproval, just love.
His first boyfriend got kicked out of the house for being gay. He now lives with his grandmother. Right now, John is frustrated because the young man he's interested in can't do more than flirt because the poor kid is scared to come out of the closet. If you saw them together, you would just assume they were a couple, but religious parents have made it clear they disapprove of that lifestyle.
In my classes, I get asked if I will allow a gay character in a scene. I tell them yes, as long as he/she is treated respectfully and not used as the punchline for an inappropriate joke, the character is always removed.
So yes, we've come a long way baby, but we still have a long way to go.
You don't need to keep em coming, because I've heard it all before, from people on the left. Honestly, I don't understand why the right is so angry, it's us liberals he's disappointed, I would think you guys would be pleasantly surprised since he's proving himself to be an old school capitalist in the vast majority of the issues. All I'm saying, is if the right is tired of being accused of racism, they need to stop acting like crazy racists.
I know you weren't talking to me, but I did offer an explanation as to why liberals are crying racism. I'll repeat it
"What are we on the left supposed to think when you on the right spout crazy crap like Obama is a socialist? Damn. I wish he was a socialist. He's as centrist as they come, just ask a real socialist. Right wingers are demanding to see his birth certificate and accusing him, literally, of wanting to kill grandmothers. He's been called a socialist, a communist, a fascist and a terrorist simultaneously. People show up with guns and pictures of swastikas to town halls and shout down any reasonable debate. He's a secret Muslim baby killer. And now he's being accused of indoctrinating children to his communist/fascist/socialist/terrorist agenda."
I have yet to hear one bit of honest criticism from anyone on the right, it's all crazy accusations that spring from a desire to destroy Obama rather than help the country.
I know for a fact that opposition to Obama's issues are not all racism, plenty of us on the left have a lot of reservations about the man, and if the right would just shut up and listen they might learn how to offer a critique without sounding like batshit crazy redneck racists.
I said this earlier but I'll repeat it. What are we on the left supposed to think when you on the right spout crazy crap like Obama is a socialist? And now he's being accused of indoctrinating children to his communist/fascist/socialist/terrorist agenda. I'm sorry, but calling it racism makes a hell of a lot more sense then anything the right has been spouting.
