What got into Keith? Answer: Opposite Day.

When the Bush administration starts calling their enemies facists, or appeasers thereof, it's time to get very worried.

Because as Molly Ivans has said, under Bush/Rove/Cheny, "every day is opposite day."

"Medicaide Reform"

"Compassionate Conservatism"

"Clear Skies Initiative"

"Uniter, Not Divider"

"Facism is evil"

I think Keith Olbermann gets the Rove "opposite day" rhetoric concept better than anyone in broadcast. He normally mines the concept for a lot of funny jokes.

Not this time though.

IMO, thats why Keith O. was serious as cancer in his Rumsfeld comment. Sober. No snark, or smuggness.

On this particular Opposite Day, facism has entered the Bush Meme. Olbermann gets the message. Its nothing to polk fun at. If Bush people are calling me/you a facism/Nazi appeaser, THEY are the paving the way for facism.

Don't mean to start a big thing...But Kinison?

"Right away, I became interested in Cook because he has a loud, hyperagressive delivery akin to Sam Kinnison." — JCB

Howie Mandel, maybe. But Sam Kinison? Um, no.

Go to YouTube, my friend and watch Kinson again. Treat yourself. I suggest the first Letterman appearance.

There is NO comparison. None. Not even in the remotest passing reference.

Whoa now,

"when you say people who aren't in on the joke with jerry seinfeld and jon stewart, do you mean...gentiles?"

Are you implying that Heather is an anti-gentite?

Where is the reward for being right?

I thought the whole idea of being on the wrong side of history was that you get to become irrelevant once your argument goes belly up. Conversely, the folks who are proven right are supposed to get the "soap box" for a while. Doesn't seem to be the case these days.

In any case, right now in my little circle, I don't give a shit about what Sullivan has to say. Why is Salon even interviewing him?

I remember that Andrew Sullivan didn't just support the Bush Failed Republican policies. He vilified, and continues to vilify (recent examples; Chomsky, Fiske, Moore) people who disagreed with the Bush war agenda. The People who were RIGHT in the first place. I remember him being rough on some of Scott Ritter's statements about the war. Haven't heard much from Scott in the mass media lately. Guess thats just new millenium journalism's way of rewarding the people whom history has proven to be RIGHT.

Maybe Sullivan should've listened a little more carefully those he insults and demonizes. He certainly shows no humility in that respect in this article.

Here's a novel Idea. Lets start giving more airtime, column inches, bandwidth, whatever to the people who were RIGHT in the first place. Maybe theirs are the ideas most valuable to us now.

Schadenfreude

"Do you know what "Schadenfreude" means? Because watching the great white hope of the GOP go down in flames, I sure do..."

Annie,

Literally meaning something akin to "harmful joy". When one takes a shameful pleasure in someone elses misfortune. Implicit is the idea that one would enjoy seeing someone suffer undeservedly (this is bad).

Your neighbor "Little Miss Perfect" gets dumped, and loses her ovaries... "Sweeeet!" [again, this is bad].

In your case, the republicans are merely getting what they deserve. No harm in enjoying their pain. They've earned it. They certainly enjoyed inflicting enough of it upon you over the years.

Your pleasure is healthy. Perfectly appropriate.

Own it annie.

Locutus. Cafeteria Libertarian

"The fear of rebellion is the only thing that keeps a government's boot off the neck of the governed. There are over 175 million guns in the hands of civilians in this country."

Your precious 2nd ammendment rights are already gone, Jag-off.

During Katrina, your president used the national guard to easily disarm New Orleans citizens of their firearms leaving them helpless to protect what was left of their homes. Where was the NRA and your rebellion then? Never heard a peep from big bad Locutus. I'll bet you had a lot to say about Ruby Ridge, Waco, Janet Reno and Clinton's cooked dick back "in the day", though didn'tcha? Why so quiet now about Bush ordering the Guard into private citizens homes and confiscating their firearms? or removing Habeas Corpus?

When the army comes to take your precious guns tough guy, my bet is that the all -powerful Locutus will piss his pants submissively as he gives Daddy anything he wants including the addresses of all the other gun owners, liberals, jews and subversives in the neighborhood.

Stick with the Star Trek re-runs, fool.

Den Valdron- Careful, buddy.

"...You want thirty million white people who speak English better than you do, spread right across your a three thousand mile border within three or four hours drive of your most vulnerable parts... and you want them mad at you?"

How mad will you stay at us after you win? Mad enough to give Alan Thicke the Tonight Show? Barring that, a lot of us wouldn't mind your border shifting south a few hundred miles. I for one will welome our new Canadian overlords.

Specter, the cowardly lion

"As Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said Thursday, in a moment of justified anger, 'One day there will be a new attorney general, maybe sooner rather than later."

Specter is press whore and a blowhard. And a joke.

Whenever Specter talks tough about Bush, Laura hides the pretzels to prevent another choking incident from the laughing fit that is sure to follow.

Whenever Specter talks tough about Bush, put your hand on your wallet. Vegas should post odds after every Specter press conference, and take bets on the speed with which he caves. He's already backpedaling. Crooks&Liars has the Face the Nation video where Arlen clearly is setting up his bail-out on USA Iglesias and one other from Baltimore.

The president is spraying his evening nightcap of Benedryl through his nose in laughter right now as a video medly of Specter soundbites plays over and over for his and Gonzo's amusement.
