The Protect America Act is scary enough. Why would anyone (but Bush/Cheney) want to give away any more rights?

I know, I know, that is a rhetorical question. We must protect the telecoms, after all.

Personally, I do not want to give up any more of my rights. Actually, I want a bunch of them to be restored.

  • Old McCain

[Read the article: No, really, I'm a conservative]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why does he keep having young people behind him at speeches? It just makes him look older, especially when the young people look bored.

  • Not only skirts

[Read the article: "See, here at Fox we like to be feminine"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Not only skirts, but really high heels to go with them. Something tells me that long skirts would not have gotten the same endorsement.

  • Always looks bad

[Read the article: The "Rezko" game]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If Obama says anything, he is obviously lying. If he refuses to say anything, he is obviously covering something up, because otherwise he would say something. Circular logic.

    That is how it works.

  • Politics is a rough sport

[Read the article: Obama advisor calls Clinton a "monster," apologizes]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I have had a rough time deciding between Obama and Clinton in this election. Edwards was the one I wanted, but he is out and now I am left with what I consider 2 weak candidates.

Nonetheless, this is politics and politics is a blood sport. Sorry, Obama dreamers, that is the way it works. I voted for Clinton, am not very happy with the way her campaign has been run, but her willingness to go for the jugular is what convinced me to support her.

My fear is that if Obama is elected President (which I want, if he is the Dem nominee), he will be unable to accomplish anything since he does not seem willing to stomp on the Republicans. If he does stomp, his supporters will probably get all upset and abandon him, then he will have even less power.

What I am really fed up with is the whining from supporters from both sides here at Salon. The idea is to get the Dem elected, whether Obama or Clinton. So, all of you Dems out there, stop saying that you might vote for McCain, or Nader, or not vote at all. THAT is falling for the Rove plans, Repub thinking, and not at all helpful to your candidates and to the country.

To quote Mammy Yokum, "Ah has spoken!"

  • One more time

[Read the article: Some free advice for Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As seems to be the accepted method of letters around here right now, Obama is being picked on and no matter what she says or does, Clinton is evil.

Obama needs to clarify just what went on.

Clinton needs to release her tax returns.

Obama is not being picked on and Clinton is not evil.

Quit demonizing the other Dem, everyone, and let's save our hatred for the Republicans.

  • Giving till it hurts

Unemployed because of the economy, but all of the money I have given this year has gone to this Constitutional issue. Others can give to the general campaigns, but this is the most important thing to me.

Thank you, Glenn, for keeping us up-to-date on such an important issue.

  • 1776 a great movie

[Read the article: Forefather knows best]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

1776, despite the fact that it did not do well at the box office, is a great movie. It is regrettable that few Americans appear to have even heard of the musical, and if they have, they seem to disregard the movie because it is a musical.

The movie is actually remarkably accurate, especially considering that it is a musical. The extended version available on DVD is even better than the regular version which my kids had grown up watching. It has even more legislative stuff (probably boring for Heather), but that stuff explains much of what happened on the way to the Declaration. My grown kids now watch the movie and cheer each point on the development of the document. (Thank you, high school debate.) Discussion of the movie always lasts for several days.

Yes, I am a history geek. And proud of it.

As I do not get HBO, I guess I will have to wait until this comes out on DVD.

  • Spitzer issue is waking people up

[Read the article: Time magazine invents facts to claim that Americans support Bush's domestic spying abuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This whole thing with Elliot Spitzer being found out because of bank records and government wiretaps seems to be making the lack of privacy real to more people. Although nobody seems to approve of Spitzer's actions, I have spoken to a number of people who are concerned that the government was going after, and publicizing, something that is essentially private.

Although one can still easily find letters to the editor extolling the wonderfulness of Bush and the need to give up all our rights so that he can save us from the scary terrorists, it looks to me there are fewer letters like that. Maybe Time should look at its letters. That might be an accurate (ha!) way of finding out what Americans really think.

  • Outrageous speech is fun

[Read the article: Tactics of the right-wing noise machine]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Liberals get so serious about these things.

Conservatives and other right-wing loonies have fun with outrageous statements. Rush Limbaugh is having fun. Ann Coulter is having fun. Pat Buchanan is having fun.

Until liberals can have fun fighting back, until they can have fun making outrageous statements, the right will retain its power. Liberals get so upset if something negative is said about them. Then they pout, "Why did they say those nasty things about me?" Liberals need to fight back, immediately. If a conservative or even the MSM says something negative about them, liberals need to immediately hit back. With a smile they need to say, "Chris Matthews, you are wrong. John McCain is senile." That kind of thing. Do not agree that McCain is a hero, do not say he has a pretty wife, etc.

Liberals need the same kind of snarkiness that characterizes the conservatives. That makes good TV. That makes good reading. That might get MSM attention and get liberal ideas out.
