Re: A question for Alex
[Read the article: Last Quote of the Day (Promise!)]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hi Yaqui,
I didn't notice the mood swinging either way in the media room, really. The only mood swing I noticed was when the prosecution called its first witness -- most of us were hoping that, as we had originally understood, the day would end after opening arguments finished around 3. There were a couple good-natured boos by people who had deadlines to meet or just plain wanted to get out of there.
So as for whether people are still holding Fitzgerald in high regard, or viewing Libby as a victim, well, I don't really know. I did, as I said in my earlier post, think Fitzgerald did a very good job in his opening statement; I don't mean to be wishy-washy, but I thought Wells was equally good in his own -- very different -- way.

[Read the article: More on Walter Reed]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Good catch, vondo. Thanks.

Re: To Clarify
[Read the article: Suit demands release of secret FISA orders]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]To clarify for myself, I don't have any friends at EFF, nor have I -- to my knowledge -- ever actually met anyone who works there, though I've used EFF employees as sources for a couple stories I've written.
Normally I would have tried to include more reporting on this, but there simply wasn't time yesterday. When, towards the end of the day, I did a search and found that few other blogs/media outlets had reported the lawsuit -- which I thought newsworthy -- I decided simply to report that the lawsuit had been filed. I think that's a lot different than reporting your average press release, since this one was simply notification of a newsworthy event.
Thanks for your questions.

To Buffalonian
[Read the article: Gonzales in training]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just a coincidence -- I hadn't read TPMMuckraker on this until you pointed it out. The idea that Rocky was the best thing to refer to was the first thing that sprang to mind when I read the WaPo article, and since I haven't seen any of the movies, "Eye of the Tiger" was the only reference I could think to make. An editor suggested the allusion to Mickey, Rocky's trainer. Thanks for your concern.

Elections
[Read the article: Al-Sadr's back]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Susan,
There are provincial elections that may happen next year. Hope this clears that up for you.

re: Cummins is being too nice
[Read the article: Cummins: "My professional reputation has already been slandered"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You make an interesting point, FreeProton. But what actually happened here is that I made a decision, for reasons of length, to cut what Cummins said about the replacements generally: "They never should have asked DOJ to make these changes for these reasons anyway." Looking again after reading your letter, I think I should have left it. I've updated the post and added back that section of Cummins' quote. Thanks.

re: Arkansas Times article
[Read the article: Cummins: "My professional reputation has already been slandered"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks, sddavis, but unfortunately that's not the right article. I found it too, last night, and thought it might be, but it came after Cummins had been told to resign -- the article referred to in my post came over a year before.

Re: Judge "Burns"?
[Read the article: Judge dismisses Valerie Plame's lawsuit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for pointing that out, anonymous. That was my mistake, not CREW's.

Fixed
[Read the article: Different general, different war, same words: Westmoreland on Vietnam, Petraeus on Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]We've fixed the problem. Sorry about that, everyone, and thanks for the heads up.

re: The imperial Kaplancy
[Read the article: The real reason Bush is withdrawing troops from Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hi Alice,
The Fred quoted in my article is indeed Fred Kaplan, but I think the Fred you're referring to is actually a different one, Fred Kagan.

Re: EconCCX
[Read the article: How the Christian right could defeat Rudy -- and make Hillary president]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for pointing that out -- the video does indeed show Salon asking Goeas about whether Republican primary voters would vote for a pro-life candidate, but we think it's clear from the context that our reporter was asking about a pro-choice candidate, and that Goeas understood the question that way. We mistakenly made the same error in the story; thanks for bringing it to our attention.

re: Petty Vs. Dismissive
[Read the article: Andrea Mitchell's strange attack against Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"C'mon Alex- would you jump off a bridge just because all the other kids are doing it???"
If it would make me cool, yes.
But seriously? I'm not saying it's OK to do what the Clinton campaign did in planting that question. I called it wrong, and I meant it.
However, I think it's unfair to pile on the Clinton campaign and act as if they did something singularly bad and are the worst people ever for doing something that everyone else does too. A thing doesn't become right just because everyone's doing it, but neither is it right to single out one person or campaign as the wrongdoer in such a case.

Thanks, everyone
[Read the article: A programming note]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Woah, wasn't prepared for the positive nature of all these responses, and I really appreciate them. Thanks, all -- made the first day a lot easier.

[Read the article: Earliest exit poll results from Florida]

Re: Scratch that first sentence. Reverse it.
[Read the article: Lowering expectations]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Oops. You guys are absolutely right; that additional "not" was left over from my first run at that sentence. Thanks for the catch, I've fixed it now.

Re: Widow's mite
[Read the article: Huckabee triumphant]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sorry, folks -- you're right about the spelling, and I'm changing it within the post. I'm trying to work pretty quickly here tonight, and was going off the spelling provided by the transcription service we use, which Google seemed to back. Thanks for the catch.

Re: How many delegates at issue in each of these states?
[Read the article: Where the presidential race goes from here]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I agree, and I was originally planning to include that, but -- like nearly everything else relating to delegates -- I found various conflicting numbers. I'll try to pin down definite numbers later in the day and update.

Re: It's Rock Around Barack
[Read the article: At least they didn't remake "Jeremy"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You're absolutely right, don't know why I had it that way. I've fixed it. Thanks.

Re: I am glad Clinton is still in the game.
[Read the article: Clinton fundraising hits new highs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Melthough,
According to the campaign, the $5 million loan from Clinton to her campaign is not counted in either the $13 million in contributions they announced for January and the new post-Super Tuesday numbers.

Washington state
[Read the article: Is Hillary Clinton's campaign in trouble?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Some readers have written in that I got a fact in this post wrong, re. Washington state voting next week. Actually, that's right -- Washington state held a caucus recently, yes, but there's also a primary there on Feb. 19.
