incredibly unprepared

Your ego has got the best of you and you failed women, progressives, those who stand for choice, those who believe in the right to perform late term abortions.

How you were unprepared:

You assumed it was going to be a civil debate, with a mountain of interviews to the contrary. You didn't bother to study his interview style and have any sort of a game plan for the shouting and finger pointing that was inevitable.

You haven't bothered to read Roe vs. Wade. If you had you would have known that late term abortions are a constitutional right, and that states that outlaw them are unconstitutional.

You didn't have any facts, figures, or expert testimonials at your disposal. You could have easily said that a retired independent so called expert in Psychiatry, crunching a limited amount of data on his own, with an agenda, is not and "expert." You could have countered that the trial judges in which the data presented were, experts and repeated their rulings. Then you could go on to ask Bill if he believed the judge (by name) is an expert, if Bill believed in the constitution etc...

You are and were a lamb. No matter how much preparation you would not have succeeded. You can not, no matter how much you will it, magically transform yourself into an alpha personality.

Other dissapearing acts

Wouldn't it be nice if the press and governments were just as concerned with the disappearance of known registered sexual offenders. They are required by law to register their whereabouts, yet we allow 80% of them to disappear into anonymity every year. I'd rather know their location, then the governor of South Carolina.

It is a systemic problem

The author has made very good points. We have a national health issue with alcohol over consumption. This is a billion dollar industry that puts alcohol in front of us at every turn, encouraging over consumption. Too often we focus on the individual as solution. Billion dollar tobacco industry vs. the individual. Billion dollar prescription drug industry vs. the individual. Billion dollar alcohol industry vs. the individual. A system vs. "why can't they just do the right thing," or "Why don't they just quit," or "have some self control."

I was a bar tender for over 10 years. Every day I served hundreds of people who in turn drove their cars home while intoxicated. One small bar churning out 100 drunk drivers every day in a city with thousands of bars. Everyone takes a drunk turn behind the wheel at some point, each an opportunity for a lethal accident. Sure we are all angry at this mom, but how about a little anger at the culture that holds the angry thought against drunk driving mothers, while simultaneously holds happy thoughts of the billion dollar alcohol industry.

Doublethink.
