The real threat in Pakistan is from the people not a fringe group of extremists.

The analogy to Iran in 1978 is a good one. The administration and the media have consistantly tried to pin the instability in the region on "al Quida" and or Islamic extremism. Untrue. The instability comes from a revolutionary uprising of the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The "Taliban" are Talibs. Pashtuns. They comprise about a third of the population of Afghanistan. The border of Afghanistan and Pakistan means little to the people of both nations. Many are of the same tribe. The majority people of Pakistan want to oust the military dictatorship lead by Mushareff. Not some dirt farmers in the hills like the media would have us think. The students in the universities have had enough. By the time the media gets around to reporting the real truth of the conflicts in this region, it will be too late.

Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul were already serious

"Welcome to the Ramada Inn conference hall. If you'll direct your attention to the power point presentation on the large screen, we'll begin the presentation as soon as we get the microphone working. Here we are. As you can see by the first slide, my presentation is titled "Big Problems, Real Solutions." As you can see, I have a 10 point plan to address all the nation's problems. Next slide please..."

Outstanding review

Film review is difficult. You usually come off as a self important douche bag. This review shows you at least have the occasional glimmer of talent. This review contained the proper weight of information and critique without giving away the whole plot. Good for you.

Kudos Glenn

Call them out. Pakistan won't mean spit in this election, unless of course the media makes it mean spit. If the media decides to terrorize the public with ideas of Al Qaida with nuclear weapons, then yes it could have an effect.

Oz

The white corn farmers of Iowa have spoken! Whatever. Why do we allow these hayseeds to determine anything in our democracy? No candidate can go on record that Iowa and New Hampshire should not have this influence in the process. Minorities should be vocal their lack of representation in the process.

The corporate owned media and the white hayseeds have spoken!

Your choices for president are:

Elitists, or elitist's pets.

Your cola beverage choices are:

Carbonated sugar water with cola flavoring.

Salon looks like every other corporate whore, push the bullshit horse race paradigm, don't question this obvious subversion of true democracy... media outlet. Change the masthead to Washington Post and leave the front page content the same, and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference today.

Status Quo

Thanks Salon. Thanks for supporting this subversion of representative democracy. Thanks for looking like every other media outlet today.

Where is New Hampshire?

Oh that is right, it is that tiny little sliver of land that produces stuff like maple syrups and little dried corn tchotchkas. When did all this bullshit start and why does Salon and the rest of the media perpetrate this? All of your articles covering these early primaries and caucuses should be exposing how undemocratic they are. Instead you stand on the sidelines and cheer on the horse race. My guess is salon's staff is mostly white, mostly upper middle class, mostly content to maintain the status quo in media. As poor a representation of its readership as New Hampshire is to the nation.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of Circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of Chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

@heyjude

Don't buy into the republican revisionist meme about how bad things were in the Clinton years. The "soap opera" was created completely by the republican party to the detriment of an informed public and of our democracy. They also like to spin the tale about how great things were during the Reagan years. Revisionist bullshit. Regan didn't end the Cold War. The Soviet Union ran out of money because of bad economic policies. He did however produce a large deficit, fight dirty wars all over the world (particularly in Central America), sell arms to Iran, and govern while a victim of Alzheimer's. I lived during both presidencies and I'll remind you of this: Reagan sucked and most of the public couldn't stand him. Clinton was well liked and resided over one of America's most peaceful and prosperous period in decades.

If America is uneasy with Hillary Clinton, it is because she is a republican. Voting for the war. Voting to pick a fight with Iran. You get the idea.
