I'll Take a Needless Biopsy with a side of Pap Smear Please

Re: "in the form of needless biopsies."

How many women are having needless biopsies? And how does that harm women? If you have a biopsy and it comes back negative, how is that harmful? Come on. Obviously, it's worse to have cancer that remains undetected because you didn't get a mammogram. I'll take the needless biopsy anyday. How many women in their 40s (or younger) get breast cancer? The government and the insurance companies are trying to save money at the expense of women's health.

Obama=Sexist

No, women are not about to derail health care reform. If Obama and the other men in charge insist on rationing women's access to mammograms, pap smears, and reproductive services, they will be the ones to have derailed it. I don't know why they think they can spit on 50% of the population.

Original article: Lou Dobbs for president!

Dobbs is Done

His show was in fourth place behind Jane Velez-Mitchell and Nancy Grace. He was probably fired. I doubt Fox will hire him because he brings with him organized opponents who are willing to boycott him and his advertisers, which no corporation wants to deal with, especially in this economy.

It is one thing to discuss illegal immigration, but it's quite another to scapegoat a whole group of people for the economic problems caused by corporate trade agreements and economic deregulation. These immigrants have been pushed off of their land by NAFTA. If 20 million people from any other continent had to flee their country in search of work, it would rightly be called a humanitarian crisis.

Dobbs could have used his platform to offer solutions. For instance he could have advocated for the repeal of NAFTA and other similar trade agreements. He could have condemned Plan Mexico. Instead, he chose to scapegoat poor people. Dobbs went to Harvard, but he's on the same level as Rush Limbaugh.

Good riddance Lou.

Read the Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein

I blame Arnold and the sheeple who voted for him. To Mr. Leonard: What makes you think that fiscal solvency is Arnold's goal? As long as Arnold is in office there will be a non-stop budget "crisis" that he will use as an excuse to privatize everything Californians have worked for decades to build. Eventually he will suggest selling state parks, access to beaches, etc.

And now that I think of it, it was very callous of you to suggest that a diverted bike path is the only price that people are paying for Arnold's fiscal mismanagement. People in the real world are losing access to health care, education, public safety, etc. Leave it to the media to protect their Schwartzenidiot.

2010 cannot come soon enough.

GOP Stupidity

Re: "California's tax base is dwindling while their taxes and spending increases. It was almost inevitable that California would go bankrupt."

More GOP nonsense. First of all, CA is not bankrupt. As long as you have assets you are not bankrupt and CA has a 1.7 trillion dollar economy. The problem is that we have a Governor who has no interest in raising revenue from taxes or anywhere else. If we eliminated Prop 13 and had an increase in revenue Arnold would find a way to create a deficit and a debt to justify dismantling education, health care, regulatory boards and everything else that corporations hate. Too many people have been conned into thinking that our Governor is acting in good faith.

If you Republicans want to live in a state where people don't pay taxes or have any services then why don't you move to a Republican state like Oklahoma or Mississippi? Stop wrecking CA with your failed economic ideology that only benefits Texas oil companies and Wall St.

Arnold is Scum

Re: "Haven't you noticed a mass-exodus of businesses and wealthier people lately?"

No. That's Republican propaganda. But after Arnold's Republican budget goes into effect and thousands of people are laid off, small businesses will probably go bankrupt. Republicans are stupid if they can't see this.

If people had just agreed to pay their car taxes, we would not be in this situation, even with Enron's theft.

Furthermore, I think the whole point of Arnold and his Republican allies not signing the budget and issuing IOUs was to create a crisis to get this oil deal passed. The Land Commission vetoed this deal a few months ago. Now some Texas oil company might be able to drill off the coast of Santa Barbara without paying any taxes.

I say "might" because the budget does not come up for a vote until Thursday. If the Democrats are going to cave on this-- and we know caving is what they do best--they should insist on an oil severance tax.

Alaska charges 25% and so should CA.

I wonder if the Kennedys are embarassed by the scum that is Arnold?

GOP LIES

Re: "Mistake number one was giving this Stimulus to Pelosi and the congressional barons to turn it into a partison christmas tree for everything they have wished for in the past 30 years."

That's Rush Limbaugh/GOP propaganda. Many economists, including Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman, say that the bill needs to be larger. The worst thing would be to pass a bill that is ineffective because it is too small.

When are people going to understand that the Republicans don't care if we slide into a Depression? They don't care how many people lose their homes or become unemployed. They don't care about you! Does a building need to fall on your head?! How much economic disaster does it take before people get it?

Obama

I wish Obama would stop trying to appease the Republicans. If he thinks these people are honest brokers then he's in fantasyland. Obama needs to use his considerable political capital to push this thing through the Senate the same way LBJ pushed through the Civil Rights Bill. If the Republicans want to filibuster--then let them do it.
