Joe Biden will probably do for Barack Obama what Lyndon Johnson did for JFK. Biden brings age and experience to balance Obama's youth and charisma. As presiding officer of the Senate, Biden would know where all the bodies are buried, know how to twist arms, and could help Obama get his legislative program passed. Meanwhile, Biden should have a broad appeal to blue collar workers during this campaign, and be a very effective attack dog who would enable Obama to maintain the high ground. Hillary and Gore would both have been great choices, but either one of them might have overpowered Obama. With Biden, there is no doubt that Obama will be in charge and calling the shots. As to social issues -- like abortion and gay rights -- it's hard to find two more liberal national figures than Obama and Biden.
Many people have asked for privacy and compassion for Bristol Palin. That's fine. But the real issue is that Sarah Palin will fight privacy and compassion for all the other teen-age girls of America. Sarah is against sex education, against contraception, against abortion, against reproductive choice. Sarah Palin is proud of the choice her daughter has made. But she would prohibit all other American women from having a choice. She is one Supreme Court Justice away from achieving that goal.
How dare the Republicans try to place such an unqualified irresponsible ideologue as Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the presidency? For years, her husband belonged to Alaska's American Independent Party (AIP), a political party which advocates that Alaska secede from the United States and form its own separate country. Does that sound patriotic to you? Only by the standards of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and the rest of their herd. Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, is a living Poster Girl for the fact that Sarah's narrow "Abstinence Only" policy does not work. Yet, Sarah and her right-wing cohorts would impose "Abstinence Only" on all American women by appointing Supreme Court Justices who would abolish all freedom of reproductive choice. Putting Sarah Palin on the ticket is a calculated effort by John McCain to appeal to his right wing base. With McCain, it's "Put the Base First" -- Not the Country. John "Shoot From The Hip" McCain has just shot himself in the foot.
It looks as though the National Enquirer has once again scooped the national news media.
The Enquirer is now running a front-page cover story about Sarah Palin having an extra-marital affair with her husband's business partner. This is very similar to the story that has damaged the political career of John Edwards. Yet, we hear not one word about Sarah Palin's extra-marital affair on any of the major media outlets.
No wonder the public has to turn to other sources to be informed and can no longer rely on television news channels for important information.
It was "important information" when it affected Bill Clinton and John Edwards. Isn't it equally important when it affects "soccer mom" Sarah Palin?
Back in the good old days, when the Puritans landed on Plymouth Rock, Sarah Palin would have had a large Scarlet Letter "A" branded on her forehead. Now, thanks to the brilliance and superb judgment of John McCain, Sarah Palin may soon be next in line for the American presidency -- indeed, as the "family values" candidate. "Oh -- The Times They Are A-Changin'."
Dear Welcomerain:
Your piece of "news" about McCain having eliminated Obama's lead since Palin was nominated hasn't made it past any of the pollsters' filters, either. McCain is putting his "Base First". Obama is the one who puts his "Country First".
Dear Welcomerain:
Allow me to quote what you said in your latest posting:
"Here's some news that didn't make it past Salon's filters -- McCain has eliminated Obama's lead since Palin was named as his VP candidate."
The fact is that the latest Gallup Poll, as of this moment, shows Obama still maintaining his lead of 50% to 42% over McCain. Therefore, one thing we have now learned about you, my dear Welcomerain -- You Do Lie.
Welcomerain: Gallup still shows Obama with an 8-point lead over McCain. Read it and weep.
Sarah Palin is a right-wing "family values" ideologue who has had an extra-marital sexual affair with her husband's partner and advocates passing federal laws to restrict the sexual freedom of every other woman in America. Women should love her.
The only Change McCain offers is his Change from the Maverick we used to know and love into a Bush Clone over the past four years, not only in McCain's totally reversing most of his own policies (now voting with Bush over 90% of the time) but also in the way he is running his current Bush/Rove "Slash and Burn" presidential campaign. With McCain, "Country First" has morphed into "Me First".
Women who vote for Sarah Palin are voting to overturn Roe v. Wade and to abolish women's freedom of choice.
Quote of the Day: "Jesus was a Community Organizer. Pontius Pilate was a Governor."
While Obama was a Community Organizer, Straight-Talking, "Country First" McCain was one of the Keating Five.
A few years ago, John McCain called them "Agents of Intolerance". Today, he is their candidate. Now they are giving McCain their full-throated support. The "Agents of Intolerance" have not changed. John McCain has. That's what McCain means when he calls himself "The Candidate of Change". The Admiral has turned his ship around one hundred and eighty degrees. His "principles" have done a complete U-Turn.
Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow have the two best shows of news and commentary on TV. They have the only two shows worth watching. Too bad MSNBC felt compelled and pressured by the Right-Wing to diminish its only superstar, Keith Olbermann.
For the past years, middle class Americans have enjoyed being screwed and raped by Rich Old White Guys. So, it is no surprise that they are now anxious to derive similar pleasures from this new "hockey mom" dominatrix.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
