refusing to go IS strong
[Read the article: My brother abused me -- now our parents want us all together again!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I got mad reading a few posts who said you're strong if you go and 9understandably) weak if you choose to not go. Bullcrackie!
You are stong. We know that already, so there's no if/or question of which choice proves you're stong.
Saying NO is strength. And saying no to your mom's manipulating ways IS strong. Saying you're staying home IS strong because you've found the power to resist her manipulations, found the power to stop the games, the denial.
Stay home. Do not give in to their manipulations and denial!!!

forgiveness is highly overrated
[Read the article: My brother abused me -- now our parents want us all together again!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think you should NEVER forgive them for what they did. Forgining is saying "nevermind, I don't matter." And YOU DO MATTER!
I think still saying what they did was wrong forever is healthy. It means you maintain that you are valuable and that what happened to you was, is and always will be wrong wrong wrong.
I think forgivenss was pushed on serfs in the middle ages to make them accept thier lot and not revolt. Just like being told they have to wait til heaven for their reward.
Yes, learn to let go, to put it in the past and not let it hurt you anymore, yes. But never forgive.

I sure don't think incested children should have to deal with their incestuous parents
[Read the article: My brother abused me -- now our parents want us all together again!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]but your said you were going to make your 3 year old son face his abuser! Take him to family events as if nothing happened. It is that denial that allows abuse to fester in generations of the same family, handed down like a disease. That is so so damaging. Please think that over before you further scar him for life. It is the age that is SO tender and the need at that age that their parent protect them, NOT throw them into the mouth of the lions!

I will not let the actions of a five year old destroy MY [emphasis added] entire family.
[Read the article: My brother abused me -- now our parents want us all together again!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This isn't about YOU. You're putting your own preferences for your freindship with your sister ahead of the life long mental health of your son. Choose helping the victim, not telling him to let the abusers back in his life. What a horrible thing to teach a child. At 3, security, safety is so important to kids. Imagine the life long impact being told to be nice to your abuser will have on a boy, particularly at that stage in his development. He is 3, for god's sake!

TO MOTHER of abused 3 year old
[Read the article: My brother abused me -- now our parents want us all together again!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not saying cut off all relations with family of abuser, but just to give the poor child some time. REality, safety, comfort are very different for 3 year olds than for a grown adult, and I think seeing the abusive boy would be very damanging right now. Give it way more time, time for your son to mature a little and learn how to put events in perspective and in the past. Right now he doesn't even understand time enough to put the event in his past and trust the abuser won't do that to him all the time. He is *3*

Do not say you have any conscience-based objections. Don't even mention it. Go to the Dean. Say you have bad allergies, terrible, throat tightening allergies, that you tried to tough it out, but your allergies are just too bad.

as a "small animal" vet the LW will be regularly called upon to cut off the entire ears of healthy dogs and remove their tails for purely cosmetic purposes.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]and sending all that gas money to the MIddle East is far more dangerous and UnAmerican than wearing outdated fashion.
Think about you gas guzzlers out there. You're sending more and more money to the middle east to fund more terrorism. YOU"RE the bad guys here, not me.
I drive a fuel efficient vehicle. Those middle east emirs get as little of my money as possible. I prefer to patrolize local businesses and keep my money in my local community.

The bigotry underlying right-wing discourse about terrorism never ceases to amaze me.

At first I thought that LW needed some real problems to shift her self-centered perspective a bit, but sorry -- anyone who includes _that_ factor into their reflexion needs more help than Cary can provide.
[Read the article: I'm a mom who needs more solitude]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, I think LW is a little addicted to labels, I'm special, dramaqueen I'm a dark brooding artist excuses.
I have been labeled as a INFP as well. I try not to wallow in it, it can really snowball and encourage you to find excuses and get moody rather than just suck it up and do it.
It is important to know how your unique characteristics affect you, and find what you want to improve, change, and what you want to work with. Scehdule more quite time, I find it restorative, whereas too much socializing can be draining. But don't get so caught up in it. It's like people who are addicted to crises, addicted to issues, addicted to having problems. Sometimes you just gotta do what's gotta be done and not use valuable energy thinking about your specialness.

Astrology doesn't require "belief" (it's not a jealous God) and it's at least as valid as Myers-Briggs as a framework for describing people's differing personalities
[Read the article: I'm a mom who needs more solitude]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]er, NO, it's not!!! lol
Saying everyone born on the same day is exactly the same personality type (rather than based on genetics and environmental influences) is NOT valid, except in silly supersitious land! lol!

the criticism is
[Read the article: I'm a mom who needs more solitude]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]based on her egocentric beliefe that being unique makes her special, better then the rest. The truth is WE"RE ALL UNIQUE! Nothin special about that. We're all different and don't get a free pass for being different. We're like snowflakes, each unique in our special way. now get over it and honor your obligations.
