you sorta set yourself up for this

You researched vet schools, knew that there were other schools that don't require you to learn to heal large animals, yet chose one that does, as if you WANTED to go to the large animal clinics. Why? Were you planning a raid to make your political point? Why do people knowingly agree to a set of circumstances, but then act surprised when they come along.

Vet school is VERY exclusive. You bumped someone out who would have sincerely completed all that was expected of him/her. If you refuse to go through the steps you agreed to, you've let down your side of the agreement and kept someone out who would have lived up to his/her word.

I would think you would see this as an opportunity to help suffering large animals. That would be good for the animals. But you've made this all about you.

Transfer schools. Quit. Or suck it up and learn how to help suffering large animals. But don't complain that vet school required you to learn to help large animals because--duh--that's what vet school is. And if you can't hack it, get out of the way and give the spot to someone who can and go to podiatry school.

why are you going to vet school

if you find vet school objectionable?

every profession has parts that one doesn't like

but one decides to be the best to accomplish greater goals and that includes the sucky parts.

Landscape architects are taught to be stewards of the land and sometimes have to deal with developers who don't care...

Lawyers have to defend immoral people,

CPAs have to do taxes for slimy corporations that profit off the toil of others, we all take the good with the bad, and use our training and extertise to eliminate the bad. But we don't cop out or ask for special treatment, we suck it up, do what it takes to get certified and live our live. Live is hard, everything good takes hard work and you're facing it now. Show what you're made of by transcending frustrating times rather than asking for a pass cuz you don't like it.

if I was one of your classmates

I'd be very angry that you whine to get out of some of the difficult classes, but expect to be passed and certified none the less.

I'd really like to know

What is it about Vetrinary school that warrents calling PETA, "fighting them all the way," or evil.?

Meat industry facilities may do disgusting stuff, but not vetrinary schools. Folks here are over reacting.

Wednesday, May 21, 2008 11:10 AM

can't you get a "religious exemption"

For WHAT?

Eating meat? no one makes him eat meat to finish vet school.

A class that requires he disect an animal? NO. One CAN NOT graduate vet school OR be a competent vet if one will not take critical classes that require disection. It is a part of being a doctor. If you don't like disetion, find another career.

Or for "support" the livestock industry? Don't buy meat. But again, if he wants to be a vet he'll have to take the classes that are required for graduation.

If he has religious objections to vetrinary science, why did he enroll?

gorilla warfare

that would be guerilla warfare-- after the spanish word for war, not the big apes...

Wednesday, May 21, 2008 11:21 AM

Even in your letter you don't want to speak of the cruelties.

as you said we've all heard about the "cruelties" of animal farming, or can find webpages online.

What, I ask, are the "cruelties" of vet school? What are you being "forced" to endure IN VET SCHOOL?

I am expected to participate in the actual procedures

What procedures?

Surely you're not required to kill animals for food for vet school.

So what are the horrible procedures you don't want to conduct? Euthanize sick animals? Cuz you'll have to do that as a small animal vet; I think that is compassionate.

re: So join him in his game

The teenager does NOT want the nerdy 50 year old neighbor to invite himself to play with him! Can't you see him trying to be cool using 10 year old slang "hey MY BAD DUDE!!!"

His parents would probably wonder what ungodly interest a STRANGE grown man has in their young son!

Introduce yourself to your peers, the adults, and ask if they can set a limit (no b-ball after 9). If you want to get back into playing, call some of your PEER friends and set up something with them.

He's the guy all us early feminists always wanted to meet.

no, hardly.

I never wanted a metrosexual or a hobbit.

but I thought ..

David Cook didn't want to win cuz now he's tied down to a year long Up With America squeeky clean tour.

If he'd come in 2nd, he'd be free to make a rockin' contract right now while he's hot.

I thought he took a dive Tuesday on purpose and was surprised he won Wednesday. And he didn't look too exicited. He looked awed/surprised, but not necessarily happy/elated.

your mother's a bad guy too

your brother isn't the only bad guy. Your mom has been very insensitive and has no respect for your suffering, or HER CULPABILITY for what happened to you.

That is why she wants everyone to act like nothing happened: to admit her family is torn apart would admit that SHE raised a sick boy who'd sexually abuse his sister, that she let it happen.

You owe them nothing. You owe yourself happiness and health. You've worked hard to get to a place of emotional healing and you owe yourself whatever it takes to maintain that.

Tell your mom you can not do it but you aren't the bad guy. Suggest they all get together without you and you'll see them later for a seperate night out. You just Can not and should not do it. You're suffered for the sake of those people's sickness enough and you are not going to do it any more. They can play whatever headgames they want but you will not. You will not accept the villian label.
