honor your beliefs
[Read the article: My Christian daughter says I'm going to hell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't think you have to operate contradictory to your core beliefs in order to understand and love your daughter.
Going to church is contradictory to your core beliefs. Acting in contradiction to your core beliefs because the majority of society expects you to is a dangerous thing to teach your child. That is how kids get pressured to take drugs.
the best thing you can teach by example is being honest to your core beliefs and not acting according to peer pressure. Theach her to honor her belifs. Don't go to church, that would be teaching her hypocrisy.
Find Other ways, honest to your core beliefs to connect with her. This isn't about trying football, which is just a pasttime, but about your core beliefs, which are not negotiable or flexible.

teach her about YOUR beliefs
[Read the article: My Christian daughter says I'm going to hell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]each parent should teach the child about thier beliefs.
Mom takes the girl to her church when she has custody.
On the other Sundays, teach her want is important to you.
Dispite what bible-thumpers would like the world to believe, atheists DO have values. Teach her those values.
Teach her those values through example.
On Sundays;
Spend the day with her volunteering at a soup kitchen,
spend the day cleaning up the river,
spend the day teaching a kid to read.
show her what you value.
show her your, your inspiration, your ethics.
You have them and they are important for her to learn, they just don't happen to involve belief in a monotheistic god.

what makes my heart sing
[Read the article: My Christian daughter says I'm going to hell]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]the most beautiful "cathedral" is a glade in the woods.
Beief in god is optional, but we all have "cathedral", "psalms", "hymns" and "gods"< they just aren't religous for some of us.
but we all have Heros who we want to teach our kids about, whose values we hope they learn from.
Beautiful places that make you in awe of what nature made.
those are my cathedrals, and I like to show people, so they can share the reverance.

in social and ideological struggles, as in the hard sciences, direct observation and firsthand experience are the best route to detailed, nuanced knowledge and understanding.
[Read the article: I'm cheating on my husband and loving it. Is that a problem?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]that might apply if the Dad had NEVER been to church before, but 99% chance he has, particularly since the child's mother goes. So there's no need to go learn about church, he knows all he wants to know. You assume he's ignorant of religion, whereas the truth is, he's been exposed, consdiered and rejected. VEry different.

[Read the article: I'm cheating on my husband and loving it. Is that a problem?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]there's a sale at macy's you don't want to miss this week either.

re: " I really haven't had any fallout from these illicit acts -- it hasn't affected my work or my personal life. "
[Read the article: I'm cheating on my husband and loving it. Is that a problem?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]YEs it has. That is an undeniable truth. If you can't figure out how, you must get therapy and continune until you know how's its affected you and if you're willing to accept that.

a cute dog is a people magnet!
[Read the article: Lonely single guy tired of being lonely and single seeks person ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]someone suggested getting a dog so you'd get unconditional love, but seriously say get a dog for a different reason: a cute dog is a people magnet!
I have a puppy and when we walk her in the evening, SO many people stop and talk and pet her. I told my husband if anyone ever says they need to meet people, from now on I'll tell them to get a dog. If I was single, I'd be walking that pup 5 times a day! I can not tell you how many handsome young people stopped to pet my dog!

have pity on her, seriously
[Read the article: My sister triggers my rage]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it sounds like your evolved beyond your disturbing childhood much more than your sister did. She's still SUFFERING from that childhood. It makes you angry to be around her because it reminds you of that painful childhood. But remember, you're a lot more free of it than she, so be thankful for that and have pity for her, not hatred.

re: "I am quite fond of both my mom and my sister"
[Read the article: Will my family drag us down?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How nice. Make sure to tell all the other doctors at the country club that you're 'quite fond' of your mother.

pullling the lesbo card
[Read the article: My boss says I'm a lesbian but I'm not!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Cary shame on you for voicing the same narrow-minded generalizations, that any woman who doesn't dress like June Cleaver must be lesbo, closted, confused or hiding something.
Cary, why are you “intrigued” by a busy college student who dresses in the international college student dress code of jeams and tees and implying there’s some deep meaning. It means BioChem was at 8am and these jeans were the closest to the bed. No deep message or fear of feminimity, just convenience when there are higher priorities.
LW, stop letting this be about hetero/lesbian; your boss is using that as an excuse to be mean to you. This isn’t about gay/straignt, but a bossy nosey gossipy boss. Just tell her not to bug you that way. It’s a job while you go to college, you’re probably better off finding another job rather than fighting this battle. Your 1st job is to excel at college right now, working with Ms. Manipulator is ONLY to pay the bills. Check your priorities and act accordingly. And stop worrying about being perceived as being homophobic, You know you aren’t and she’s just threatening you with that to keep you quiet about her improper behavior, pulling the lesbo card.

cary
[Read the article: My boss says I'm a lesbian but I'm not!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]what if your whole acceptancy by society was based, NOT on your accomplishments, or your behavior, or your words, but if you took an hour in the morning applying black tar to each individual eyelash... appling stiff hairspray that forces toxic particulates into your lungs to all your hair so it sticks up in the air...
fast forward to an hour later...
how would you feel Cary if society called you sick, broken, inferior, hiding something if you chose not to do that so you could focus on being a good person, learning about the environement, teaching children? there are SO many more fulfilling things to do than smear toxic crap all over your fact. But you don't have to do that, you're judged by your writing, not your makeup. PLEASE grant women the same!!!

Now, for an interesting take on culture and what we convey with our clothes and what might be a conflict between what we are trying to say and what others perceive us as saying -- that's the rest of the Cary's column
[Read the article: My boss says I'm a lesbian but I'm not!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]yeah, only the point is that what jeans and a teeshirt say is:
"jeans and a teeshirt are comfortable", Not "Im a lesbian."
The assumed message is wrong.
