"This country should be careful and not make the mistake they did by voting for Bill Clinton, the flip-flopping spin doctor and closet playboy, who brought us not a reincarnation of Camelot, but a reiteration of the worst of JFK's ego sated, philandering ways, coupled with the most immoral, dishonest and manipulative administration in history."

Unbelievable. Have you READ, SEEN or HEARD anything that's gone down these past 7 years under the Bush regime? You know, with like the Iraq war that was started under more-than-dubious circumstances? That has killed thousands and thousands of people without any justification at all? Do you really believe what you wrote? If you do, to be polite, all I can say is you are living in a dream world.

They know Guiliani all-too-well in NY.

And they are waving furiously in the country's collective face. Hopefully we here will not be the only ones to heed them.

He didn't in 2004 and he will be nothing more than a blip this time around. Ol' Ralphie is way, WAY past his freshness date.

  • I love Heather

But I can never forget a comic strip that Lynda Barry once drew called "My Worst Boyfriend" (it's in her book "One! Hundred! Demons!") and turns out Ira Glass is the boyfriend in question. And he copped to it in an interview, basically saying "Guilty as charged." So if he made Lynda miserable he can't be all that. I suppose I oughta give the show a try though.

"you have to figure that either he knows exactly what he's talking about"

When has that EVER been the case with that cretin? I'm feeling better and better about the possibility of a total rout this November. You never know of course, but things are definitely looking good for Obabma and not so much for the ol' war-mongering geezer lately.

  • Painful

[Read the article: Was Obama's FISA vote "calculated"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Naturally, I will still vote for Obama over McCain (ugh! McCain!) but I am very disappointed and disillusioned in Obama's decision to vote the way he did. As for "Moving towards the Center" - bah. Try voting with your heart and ideals instead, thanks (assuming he still has that capacity, of course). Glad I still haven't gotten around to sending any financial contributions to the Obama campaign - think I'll pass on that at this point. Maybe I'll send something to the ACLU instead.

"Gonna take a stab at this and say that Stephanie hated this movie too. Not gonna read her tripe, but good or bad she hates every single movie she reviews. Kinda disqualifies her opinion doesn't it? What a shame someone is still stupid enough to allow her a column."

Guess what? She didn't hate this movie. Critics don't hate everything they see/read/taste/listen to. That's a silly, tired myth that's been propagated endlessly over the last who knows how many years by people who seem really uncomfortable with genuine critical thinking and a desire to look beyond the surface to what makes up a work (or who can't stand to listen to other people who disagree with them). Seriously, would someone who genuinely hated all movies want to be employed at a job that required they see most everything?

  • PS - Michigan and Florida?

Please don't screw this all up and get your shit together for 2012, ok? Cuz this whole breaking the rules thang has been just such a pain in the arse for all concerned, truly. Thx.

  • I just don't go much anymore

[Read the article: Do you suffer from blockbuster fatigue?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Basically I think I'll see maybe 2 or 3 movies during the summer. I have no problem with a superhero movie here and there, but when they are the dominant genre at the box office there isn't too much reason to go. I may see The Dark Knight at some point on DVD or at the $2 theater if my BF wants to go, but if not, it's no biggie and I don't really care. Most of the action-y superhero-oriented movies are made for teenagers and comic book fans and not for me. In particular, the protracted 25 minute long chase and explosion-filled climaxes at the end of most of these films are wearying rather than exciting - at some point sensory overload takes place, at least for me. I don't envy Zacharek's job at all. At some point the sheer amount of nonsense (and that includes 90% of everything else Hollywood studios concoct these days, including the limp romantic comedies and the unfunny and juvenile comedies) would be deadening to the mind and spirit. I think she is a lot kinder to many of theses movies than I would be.

  • A well-deserved comeupance

Sometimes the internets work so wonderfully at balancing things out. A happy anniversary indeed.

  • With all the problems we face in the country and in the world...

[Read the article: McCain camp strikes back on houses issue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We're once again listening to the candidates sniping at each other about relatively trivial stuff, like their houses. American politics are hopelessly degraded, and it's a real shame.

  • I'm not saying that that the mud shouldn't be slung

[Read the article: McCain camp strikes back on houses issue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...just that it's a shame that it always has to come down to this. I sometimes agree w/ you, Debaser, that the American people get the politics they (we?) deserve. But our hideous mainstream media perpetuate and enable all this nonsense in a huge way as well. It's just...sad. Anyway, that said, hope Obama can take McCain out this Novemeber, as swiftly and cleanly as possible.

  • I work with a woman named Shikita

[Read the article: What's up with black names, anyway?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Not crazy about it, but no biggie. Still, it sounds like a breed of canine to me. My sister went to elementary school in Detroit with a girl named Starmania, which I still think is absolutely ridiculous. I can't imagine going through life havign to tell people my name is "Starmania." But any name is better to me than Caitlin, Brianna, Tiffany and Brittany or Brittney. Those are the ones I just can't stand.
