How fun is this, Rebecca?

http://weblogs.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/blog/2008/03/clinton_ive_crossed_commanderi.html

"I think it's imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold," the New York senator told reporters crowded into an infant's bedroom-sized hotel conference room in Washington.

"I believe that I've done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you'll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy," she said.

Calling McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee a good friend and a "distinguished man with a great history of service to our country," Clinton said, "Both of us will be on that stage having crossed that threshold. That is a critical criterion for the next Democratic nominee to deal with."

Maureen Dowd may be a flake, but that is so trivial. We need to take Clinton down, lest she win the nomination. If she does, I was going to work for Nader -- but now I might try to help McCain just so we have a shot at an actual Democrat in the White House before 2016.

We need to take Clinton down, folks...

...before she wins the nomination:

"I think it's imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold," the New York senator told reporters crowded into an infant's bedroom-sized hotel conference room in Washington.

"I believe that I've done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you'll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy," she said.

I don't want to have to wait until 2016 before I can vote for a real Democrat for president.

@ DurianJoe

I said BEFORE 2016 -- e.g. 2012.

If Clinton wins by endorsing McCain in the primary, I won't be able to vote for a Democrat in 2012 -- I will have to vote for either some GOP shithead or Clinton, who endorsed McCain.

Can't you see how this is the most traitorous act? What about McCain's anti-choice position? What about McCain 100-years-in-Iraq? What about McCain "bomb, bomb Iran?" What about McCain's support for spying? What about McCain's desire to defund government? What about McCain anti-gay stands?

She thinks this is better than Obama. She is not a Democrat, she is f--ing insane!

Power was right

It is appalling that Clinton has endorsed McCain over Obama, when McCain stands against choice, corporate regulation, taxing the rich, respecting other nations, and on and on. And she did, clearly, endorse McCain over Obama. She refuses to say Obama is ready to be president and she has explicitly said McCain is. She has placed Bush's (and McCain's) frame of "be afraid" over every other issue that matters to progressives.

That makes her a monster. She is dangerous. I realize her supporters would follow her all the way to hell because they like her. But a lot of us are going to leave the top of the ballot blank if she's the nominee because we believe in Democratic values -- not simply the "D-Team!"

@ PieroDeL

You really think Clinton cares about the poor people of Ohio? You really think that?

Why would she endorse McCain over Obama? McCain calls both their healthcare plans "big government socialism." McCain is against welfare programs, or any government spending for that matter that doesn't go toward guns. And because Clinton thinks McCain is ready to be president and Obama is not, she must put kicking ass around the world above helping out the suckers that did or didn't vote for her in Ohio.

So good luck getting that help from your friend Clinton if she wins. I'm sure she's thinking about your problems when she talks about them.

@ jebldmm

You may be too young to have lived through a presidential election, but let me give you a little reality:

When Clinton says: McCain is ready to be president and Obama -- well -- ask him. That means if Obama wins, McCain will run that line over, and over, and over, and over again in the general election. That is a de facto endorsement.

And for being such a smart, experienced person, Clinton can't think too far down her own road. She doesn't realize that if she wins the nomination, McCain will play over and over her statement that this election is about national security and that McCain is qualified. Then she's going to have to backpedal and say she didn't mean this election is about national security and the GOP will have much better smear-masters working for them.

So not only is she endorsing the GOP candidate, she is setting up a trap that will catch her too. She's a traitor to her party and a pretty stupid campaigner.

@ Rosenkavalier

Man, no wonder why Democrats always lose.

Have you ever thought that maybe Democrats would do well to CHANGE THE SUBJECT?

But we have to run on national security -- Bush's frame is universal. Hell, why not just say "fuck it" and endorse McCain as a party? After all, it's all about shootin' up the bad guys now, right?

Republican: Let's have a contest.

Democrat: Okay, what do you suggest?

Republican: I'm a scratch golfer.

Democrat: I shoot hoops.

Republican: Let's play golf for all the money you've got.

Democrat: Okay!
