What a dirt bag
[Read the article: Rudy on hedge funds: Too bad the Yankees lost]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]His definition of "free market" is feudal Europe -- not anything approaching Adam Smith (who advocated against excessive patents and copyrights and for trust busting). Why do people get away with using bullshit terms like "free market," "terrorism" and "security" when they mean nothing -- or at least something radically different to every listener?
As for the previous poster, gbarton: Clinton is no Gore, and Gore 2000 was no Gore 2008. Moreover, for the millionth time, Nader didn't lose the election -- a) the 5 million Bush voters in FL deserve some of the blame; and b) the election was stolen anyhow and would have come to the same count had Nader not run. And you should also know that I am not going to vote for someone right-wing fuck who wants to privatize the world that she thinks the US has the right to order around, even if the alternative is worse. I'm done. I wouldn't vote for Mussolini over Hitler and I'm not going to vote for Clinton, period. She doesn't deserve my vote and it's about time I stopped capitulating to this broken democracy. I will vote for someone who represents me from now on.

This is a Third World Nation in the Making
[Read the article: The Republicans vs. the injured child]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Our government exists for the rich and the services it still delivers to regular folks are vestigial.
Democrats let Republicans gut government programs for the poor and help Republicans deliver services to the rich (mostly through tax policy deregulation). Then when Democrats are in power they don't bring back the lost policies -- instead they propose privatized schemes to help the drowning poor that used to be pushed by the GOP (e.g. Clinton's healthcare and retirement plans that force poor people to hand government checks over to large corporations that will surely end up providing bottom-of-the-barrel healthcare and investment services).
We don't have a democracy. Our government exists for others. We get to vote for ever-fewer crumbs or a quick death.

What did Giuliani say about Iran?
[Read the article: Giuliani: Obey the Constitution. Huckabee: Ignore Congress]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's unfair to compare apples and oranges. Giuliani said we should follow the Constitution on an issue that he took sides on in the past. To juxtapose his stand on the Constitution with that of Huckabee's requires citing Huckabee's opinion on the line item veto or Giuliani's opinion on his right as president to bomb Iran.
I would bet that he would not seek a declaration of war for such action -- the only constitutional avenue for war.

I think you're lying Joan
[Read the article: GOP debate winner: Hillary Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You say you are not rooting for Clinton, but you could have just as easily said the winner was "the Democrats." In fact, it would have made your point much more clear -- it would have been better writing.
It just sucks that Salon is no different than the rest of the MSM when it comes to shoveling out horserace crap and the message that "your vote doesn't matter - it's over."
Don't confuse running a publication with being the decision maker for your readers.

Garry Owen
[Read the article: GOP debate winner: Hillary Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not sure that Walsh likes Clinton, but by using her name instead of "Democrats" she did, in fact, support Clinton. Joan added to the bullshit mountain of political coverage that only tells us who's ahead -- indeed, who has already won.
As for your question: "But as much as you loathe Hillary, would you waste your vote, or not vote at all just to make a statement?" My answer is no. I will not vote for Clinton because she does not represent me.
You are right, Garry, that SCOTUS is hanging by a thread (at best) and will go to shit if Stevens and/or Ginsburg leave. But you know what? I'm sick of being held hostage by a party that actually helps our nation move toward third-world fascism by going in the Republican direction, only slower. We need a “reverse,” and rewarding the Clintons of the world will never turn us around. For that matter, I have every expectation that a Clinton replacement of Stevens would be well to Stevens' right (probably pro-gay and pro-choice, but also anti-regulation and pro-Executive-Branch power).
