Seldom, if ever, are the provisions Kissinger signed onto in The Sinai 2 Accord mentioned in our media. One item which fascinates me is "The U.S. will support Israel at the U.N." This overlooked provision essentially gives Israel a de facto status as a Permanent Member having the power of veto. This explains the dozens of vetoes the U.S. has issued at the U.N. whenever a resolution critical of Israel is put forth.
Why is this an issue when Dick Cheney ended up using the friendly Fox News whenever he wanted to rant to support wars? Was anyone surprised how Fox and Bill O'Reilly handled the tragedy at Ft. Hood. O'Reilly (who avoided ever serving in our armed forces) never mentioned the sad statistic that so far this year 119 U.S. soldiers have committed suicide nor their violence against family members when they arrive the popular wars Fox News supports?
Why would any sensible person not question why any nation would wish to pursue an expensive program to create nukes? Perhaps Iran has some bad past experiences with Washington's foreign policies going back to when the CIA kicked out their democratically elected government to reinstall 25 years of their favorite thug, The Shah, in 1953. Since then Tehran has been threatened by both the U.S. and Israel with their nuclear arsenal. They know nobody has threatened nuclear North Korea which has a full array of WMDs locked and loaded. The Neocon agenda has not yet be fulfilled- to get the U.S. to attack Iran create a perpetual war against the Islamic one-sixth of the world's population. We saw what Iran did when they attempted to kill Capt. Will Rogers for his attack on their civilian Airbus which killed all aboard in California. Look forward to more of the same when Iran is attacked.
I remember reading that in the 1928 election Hearst had offered to support Hoover's bid for re-election only if he promised to initiate government programs to stimulate the economy which was then showing dire signs of what later happened.
The greatest change I have seen in America's attitude towards war has been the diminished criticism of people who avoided serving in combat. During World War One they were called slackers; in WW2 they were 4Fs, draft dodgers. Today they seem to be the most admired people in our society as we see with many of them holding high political office and others, such as a triple-Vietnam amputee, Senator Max Cleland, being defeated by a man who avoided serving due to a 'high school footall injury." Whilel George W. Bush has visited Walter Reed Army Hospital and his photos taken with wounded soldiers whose faces are now replaced by plastic cana be seen online at The Daily Mail in London I am still looking forward to seeing a visit there by Dick Cheney if he ever made such a visit. Steve, WW2
My dad worked in the shipyards in New York during the 1930s. That industry was devestated by "The Great Depression" until Hitler invaded Poland and started World War 2. In his book, "The Great Depression", Prof. MacElvaine concluded that FDR would have been remembered as a well intentioned failure had it not been for the man he hated most, Hitler, whose war finally ended this decade-long economic disaster. We then saw the previous 13 million unemployed ealily replaced by 12 million in our armed forces. In fact, while serving in World War Two I knew men whose very first job was when they were drafted. Steve, USN, World War 2
Let us not forget the man who really was the first leader to start many of these social programs, Birmark, which have now become so popular that not even their greatest critics such, as Ronald Reagan, never dared to terminate them when they had the opportunity to do so.
Bismark was clever enough to realize the greatest stabilizing force in any country was a contented populace and his social progams took the fire out of the Socialists' agenda. It would be helpful if our mainstream news media would give more scrutiny to the stories issued by the critics of any health care reform that Canadians are flocking south across the border to get care here rather than use their Single Payer System. Are they coming here with empty pockets? When seeing these anti-Obama demonstrators I wonder what they would do when seeing a homeless person sleeping on the streets in sub-zero weather? Would they walk around them, step over them or simply step on them to continue on their journey?
I was amused to see on TV one lady at one of the Fox News inspired demonstrations ask those assembled "How many of you are on Medicare." Many of those complaining do not realize if they are using that health care service this is being funded by the U.S. government. Another question that should be asked is "How many of you have grandma or grandpa in a nursing home and who is paying for that?"
Perhaps we should blame, or credit, the introduction of Viagra for most of the recent problems politicians are having. Prior to to the introduction of that miracle drug most men's interest in sex diminished and they then engaged in other activities such as enhancing their bank accounts or careers. There must have been a natural reason that nature created sexual impotence in middle-aged men, a problem which Viagra often overcame, and menopause in females, which often increases their sexual libido because the fear of pregnancy no longer exists. Personally, I think true love for another human being transcends all other instincts be it for a spouse, family members, canasta partners or a drinking buddy.
The most disgraceful aspect of Chinese life today is they are selectively aborting female fetuses. This has resulted in a shortage of wives for Chinese men forcing those who can afford to so to import women from other Aisan nations.
