If Obama wins the nomination, would he live to see election day? There are still a whole lot of racist white-trash hillbillies who would love to take him out. Look what America did to the Kennedys.
Many people have compared Obama to JFK. Let's hope there's one comparison we'll never have to make.
Four More Wars! Four More Wars!
So, if a democracy consists of a population that is 47 percent geniuses and 53 percent morons, guess who wins the election... One of the pitfalls of our current means of selecting a preznit is that, at best, the electorate will choose the most mediorce candidate. I wouldn't count the GOP out at all - they just have to figure out how to say, "Clinton," "9/11," and "the unborn," in the same sentence and their candidate gets 50 percent of the vote.
This is just the sort of thing that could rally the far-right base. These guys would love nothing more than to shred the Constitution and start anew. Then we could have a truly faith-based government. Like Iran, but different...
"These trans-national elites... who really want to get beyond issues of sovereignty so they can organize and guide the planet on issues like global warming..."
I dunno about the Davos crowd, but trans-national elites going beyond issues of sovereignty so they can organize and guide the planet on issues like global warming sounds as much like the good folks at Exxon/Mobil as anybody.
What good is sovereignty anyway when you have Blackwater trickling down your neck?
To echo what Steve said, Illinois has 102 counties and when Obama won his Senate seat, he did so with the support of something like 97 of them. That's a lot of "red" counties. It's not like he eked out a win, he had virtaully the whole state behind him.
I happened to catch four speeches at the close of the Iowa caucuses: Obama's, Clinton's, Edwards's, and Huckabee's. Clinton delivered a perfectly predicatable boiler-plate politician-speak speech to her supporters. It was utterly uninspiring. Huckabee came off as far more sincere and humble when he addressed his supporters, (I say that even though I disagree with most of his positions) he appeared earnest. Edwards's speech was unremarkable. After Obama spoke to his crowd, I realized that I had shifted from a slouching position on my couch to sitting perfectly upright - his speech had literally moved me. That's the difference, kids.
Hillary reminds me of the mayor of South Park.
Let's see: Religion demands that we suspend critical thinking and objective analysis in lieu of simply accepting baseless "belief" in what amounts to little more than fairy tales and atheists are the ignorant and deluded ones? What bullshit. I mean, that's like a bull shitting, wiping his ass with a sheep, and shitting again.
The thing is, though, there is definitely a value in maintaining and promoting bullshit beliefs in certain segments of our society. How else would we convince people to give their lives in wars that serve no purpose other than to inflate the value of my mutual fund portfolio? Let their imaginary gods bless them. Cha-ching!!! Got your money, suckers!
That's funny, I think anybody who honestly believe that "freedom requires religion" isn't to be trusted as a president.
If water were measured not in gallons, but in fetuses, those suthnaaahs would have a solution in a heartbeat. In the meantime, they should continue to pray since that has such a proven track record for solving problems.
I concur that there is a sort of regal elegance to the cockpit and nose of a 747, which is in stark contrast to the cockpit and nose of the A380. The latter looks like a beluga whale that lost a boxing match in 13 rounds. Oddly, I find Airbus's A340 to be one of the most attractive airplanes ever. One would think that the folks at Airbus could have been a bit more creative with the A380.
In any case, I'm just waiting for them to make another "Airport" movie involving a stricken A380...
