People are best served by voting for candidates who they think will best serve their interests. Obama is the only Presidential candidate in American history who actually KNOWS what it is like to be black in America. Thus, it is not surprising that he's pulling 95 percent or so of the black vote, as he understands issues faced by black America that no white candidate could, however thoughtful or caring. Never mind that the Democrats usually draw the vast majority of the black vote anyway.
Most black people who have been around more than 30 years or so probably thought at at least some point in their lives that they'd never live to see the day that a black man was nominated by a major party, much less win the whole thing. Given the history of race in America, I can understand black people supporting Obama even if they're not in love with his policy positions.
The original point here is that Obama has a handicap of about 6 points due to race, give or take, according to a number of experts - that is to say that if he were white, he'd be about six points further into positive territory in the polls compared to where he is now. Thus, a number of states are leaning Republican or are in play that might otherwise be considered leaning Democratic.
Duh. Thanks. For some reason I was thinking Senate...
I meant Reps as in Representatives. Maybe that's my bad.
I don't like the idea of bailing out Wall Street one bit, but what is the alternative? What happens if access to credit dries up?
Maybe this would be an opportunity for the Pickenses, Soroses, Gateses, Jobses, and Buffets of the world to create new lending agencies, as certainly there would be a demand for credit. (Do they have enough dough?)
If nothing else, this is gonna be fun to watch.
"Yet when blacks had the choice they supported a half-black charlatan and his race-baiters 100%." Are women automatically sexist for having supported Hillary?
"So I'm guessing you're not white and can't see this patent hypocrisy and what a turn-off it is to the rest of us." - Hypocrisy? No, fankly, I don't see any hyporcisy. Hypocrisy would be if black peole voiced support for one candidate and then voted for another. This is not the 1990's. As well as black people fared under Clinton, times have changed. Clearly they see something in Obama that Mrs. Clinton didn't have.
"The worst of the racists this time by far are the blacks." - You're on your own there...
"What HASN'T changed is the Republican smear machine." - You mean like your posts here?
Please, say hello to everyone at McCain's electronic propaganda headquarters for me.
Thanks.
Or was the Palin choice made for him? Next question: If McCain can't stand up to pressure from within the Republican Party to make a decision that he doesn't really want to make, how the hell would he perform in situations where he faced real adversaries?
