Original article: A call to arms

@ kasimira

What the hell is "fear-biting?" Did you mean "fear-baiting?" Two totally different words there, Sparky.

"While Anne Lamott has made a lucrative career of fear-biting, boasting about her many vicious hatreds in her many retread books..." - What the hell is a "retread book?" Is that anything like a retreaded tire? I hate it when I'm behind a tractor-trailer and a retread shreds in front of me - chunks of rubber flying all over the place and all...

The only people who propogate the idea the Obama is "The One" are right-wing radicals who want to present Obama as a threat to all things goodly and Xian. Nobody on the left thinks Obama is perfect.

Lamott points out a truly scary fact about Mrs. Failin: "...but this woman takes such pride in her ignorance, doesn't have a doubt in the world about her messianic calling..." Make no mistake; this is Geroge W. Bush with lipstick. George W. Bush is nothing if not certain that his path is a righteous one. Look where that got us. Mrs. Failin has no interest in foreign policy, or any other policy that I can ascertain, except perhaps a policy about shooting animals from low-flying aircraft, but she wants to be #2 in line for "leader" of the free world? - That would be hilarious if it wasn't real. If you really think that the last 8 years have been America's finest, then please vote McSame/Failin. If you think that America can do better on any level, then please vote for or write in anybody else, even if it isn't Obama. Vote for Barr, vote for Nader, write in Ron Paul...

If the McSame/Failin ticket wins, there is a good chance that McSame might die/become incapacitated during his first term. Consider that he would be 72 when he assumes office and consider the stress that he has endured, particularly as a POW (need I remind everyone that McSame is a POW and for that reason alone he deserves to be president...), and what you have is a very worn 72-year-old - a likely candidate for a heart attack or other critical failure. There would be a real possibility of a Failin residency.

But look on the bright side: If McSame wins and dies, America will have its first white-trash president. A milestone, no?

One other thing; some economists think that in 2009 America will slide out of recession and into a depression the likes of which we haven't seen since the Great Depresson. If today's activity on Wall Street is any indication, those dire predictions might not be far off the mark. If that does happen, it might be much more fun if it happens on McSame/Failn's watch. Quoth John McSame today, "the fundementasl of our economy are strong!!!" No word on what he considers the fundamentals...

Media Darling / W Redux

Right now, Palin is the Media Darling. For the moment, it doesn't matter what Obama does - he could be tossing burning puppies off a cliff and nobody would pay attention.

I always thought that the "smart" thing for McCain to do would be to select a lunatic/idiot for a running mate. People will vote for Palin because she's pretty and because she's a backwoods hick; that is voters will say "she's just like me." Palin played that card beautifully during her speech. It's W redux.

9/11

Obama should simply end every sentence from now on with, "9/11."

Ask her

why she feels that community organizers have no responsibilities when they're the ones taking on responsibilities to improve conditions in their neighborhoods.

@ tiberius

"The interview would be a waste of time since your minds are made up."

You might actually be right about this. On that note, your posts on Salon are equally predictable and inane and, thus, a complete waste of time.

Palin is not Afraid

I don't think Palin is afraid. However, the McCain campaign is obviously scared to death of what she might say. They need to reprogram her and fast or they will get the chrisitan radical votes and few others.

Frankly, I don't think she's very bright at all. What she is is self-confident in that special way that radically religious people adopt a certainty about their views.

Even FOX hasn't interviewed her yet.

About What I Expected

McCain's speech was about what I expected from him. But the crass exploitation, once again, of 9/11 was fucking disgusting. McCain even took the stage at exactly 9:11 p.m.

And what was up with that video montage leading up to the speech. Am I the only one who thought that looked like it was spliced together in about 10 minutes?

Apparently the US just launched a raid into Pakistan (a "sovereign" nation).

And the Paki's are none too happy. American media silence so far. Convenient timing to introduce McCain the war candidate.

Shooter,

...one wins an argument by calling the opponent the most vile names and generally screaming louder.

The talking heads at FOX have made handsome careers for themseves doing exactly this.

@ lilybean

"...she has been vetted more in one week than obama has in 19 months."

You can't be serious: Madrassa, Ayers, flag pin, light resume, wife said "Whitey" (maybe), wife not proud of America, secret Muslim, etc. - You know, imprtant stuff.

Did you think the press should have simply looked the other way while the Repubs. snuck their VP choice by us?

Authenticity? - Wasn't that supposed to be one of W's charms? In a way you're right, though. She's an authentic backwoods hick.

In the VP debate,

Biden should ask her how old the Earth is.

Judging by Different Yardsticks

On the Left and in the Center, one wins an argument by introducing the most salient points and supporting those points with evidence.

On the Right, one wins an argument by calling the opponent the most vile names and generally screaming louder.

Hence, the Left / Center will give Palin points for style (she is a smooth talker), but not substance (because there was none), while the Right will declare this to be one of the greatest speeches in American political history (bacause she mocked her opponent).
