Per the WSJ article
"Unless Congress weighs in, judges -- unaccountable to the body politic -- will decide what standards of proof and rules of evidence will apply to these detainees, resulting in an ad hoc, case-by-case body of law which focuses on the rights of the detainees, not on the consequences for our war fighters who risk their lives to capture them. Since when do we leave it to judges to decide when and to what degree our troops are required to engage in police duties in the heat of battle?"
What a crock of shit. Thanks for reminding me why I never read that useless newspaper. Unless we want to give judges crystal balls that allow them to see exactly what every person accused of a crime would do once released from detention, then every person accused of anything would remain in detention for life, accordng to the logic presented here. Why ever release anybody from prison?
Should judges weigh cases based on facts and evidence or should they weigh cases based on hypothetical scenarios?
Sure, bad guys get off on technicalities. Happens all the time. The alternative to a justice system with built-in checks and balances is one without checks and balances. Do you really prefer the latter? If so, Stalin could have used a man like you.
In the new "conservative" worldview, accusation equals guilt, so there's no reason to bother with trails.
"What's wrong with being sexy?"
... to find out that she supports drilling.
Don't confuse information with misinformaion. Okay, Sparky?
This is what the hell I'm talking about (hint: it's one of the links in the article you're commenting on):
Unfit for Publication: Corsi's The Obama Nation filled with falsehoods - http://mediamatters.org/items/200808040005?f=h_top
I have absolutely no problem with people who want to dissect or criticize Obama's (or any other public figure's) positions on the issues or take a look at his past, even if it is only to bring unflattering information to light. What I do have a problem with is when people just make shit up. Making shit up is also know as lying.
Is says a lot about right-wing character when their attempts at character assasination are pure bullshit.
Thanks for playing. You can go home now.
"Every bad thing written about the President is true, and every bad thing written about Sen. Obama is false. The bad guys exclusively play for the other team."
No and no. Care to back those statements up with some facts?
"Does it even need to be said that the American Left has wandered into many totalitarian countries that are bloodily oppressing their own citizens and cynico-naively meddled for those dictatorships some more on behalf on their own "revolutionary" agendas?"
- You mean like how Ronald Reagan coddled Saddam Hussein for 8 years?
"A extra tax on oil companies (windfall profits) would reduce investment in refining and exploration, keeping oil prices higher than the otherwise would be."
If limited investment in refining and exploration would result in higher oil prices, then isn't this what the oil companies really want? The optimum scenario for them would be a maximum profit on a minimum of investment. Would they make those investments without the tax?
Not understanding how to use technology, or, perhaps, how others might use technology, is to today's world is like not understanding the importance of the wheel to the automobile industry.
Thanks to you right-wingers who continually mock intelligent people and don't want smart people in the White House for reminding me why I will never vote for a Republican. Larry the Cable Guy for Preznit!
While I agree with the posters who point out that McCain will not achieve anything here in terms of conflict resolution, perhaps that isn't the point.
Hypocritically as it may be for Team McCain to act like an actual administration after lambasting Obama for acting like a president, it might make for good electoral campaign strategy, like it or not. Perhaps he learned something from Obama's European vacation. Now McCain gets to say, "Look, everybody! I'm Presidential! I'm using my war experience in a real war!"
In any event, nobody will remember this once the NFL regular season starts or some pretty little blonde girl gets abducted, whichever happens first.
Or is there a special kind of stupid commenting from the Right in this thread?
"OK, let me get this right .... there is something seriously wrong with McCain because he isn't a fan of email?" - In this day and age, that's like not being a fan of electricity. Shall we de-computerize communications between Homeland Security and the White House? Let's send urgent messages by pigeon.
"I don't check the blogs very often because it is the same sicko, sicko, radical left wing hate towards anyone but a radical left wing democrat." - You clearly have never been to a Right wing blog. In your post, swap the word "right" for the word "left" and you basically describe yourself.
You guy should do McCain a favor and leave commenting on important topics to people who understand them.
"Most of us over 35's struggle with technology..."
Speak for yourself.
Far all of the talk on the Right about how free markets are the best determinants of which marketplace wares are best suited for public consumption, they have to resort to character assasination to shift public discussion away from policy issues that really matter because in the marketplace of public policy, conservatism has proven to be a colossal failure.
Another thing - please stop calling Corsi's book "critical." It is not critical; criticism would entail (pro or con) fact-based analysis of Obama and his policy positions. Corsi, like a typical Republican, is only capable of propagating lies that play on fears of the ignorant. This is very far from legitimate criticism.
