Whoa.

That anyone at all sees this person as viable as the potential leader of the USA is just so profoundly sad. I feel that people like Palin - the Republican base, (really??) - are addicts to some kind of hate-candy; 'Jesus is my savior and I get to hate, too!' And somehow that never seems dissonant to them. The creepiest thing I've seen since Palin was named is the film of her at her old church (@Huffington Post). She seems like a gushy twelve year old - not even an adolescent's maturity level, but a child's - who's never even thought through what humility might mean in a mature relationship to God. Altemeyer's definitely nailed this as authoritarianism, but there's more. There's the angry, spoiled child's tantrum, the selfishness of the bully. The Republican base is apparently where America's little not-so-christian haters go to not feel so alone. Ugly.

'Whining'?

'They rebelled against their own parents, but aren't interested in letting the generations succeeding them find their own way in turn. You can see examples of this everywhere....aging hippies at the farmer's market whining about the kids these days not taking to the streets'

Wow! if this isn't a description that speaks to the limitation of the describer more than anything else, I don't know what is.

One, you're whining. Two, answer the 'whining' question if it's so stupid and easy. And three, stop feeling sorry for your little lot in life and grow up! America's being date-raped AGAIN by the Gop and you're saying yeah, me too, it's not fair??? stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp. ????

I look on this same old festive media cannabilism and think..... you're letting it happen again America!! The fact that there can even be any entertainment of the possibility the Repubs getting in with these two weird, cheneyesque puppets as all they have to offer shows how insane America has become. The media is propagandizing successfully. How much more proof is needed. If the Gop can get the numbers close, they'll steal it, just like the last two times. And if they can't, well, god bless america, cuz the freaks in and behind the whitehouse are not going to let go now.

I genuinely believe this.

"Dick Cheney, Dick Addington and the rest should be rewarded..."

and you should pull your upper lip back over your eyebrows and then swallow hard

I CANNOT STOP LAUGHING AT THIS IMAGE...

Thank-you, Jebbie, Thank-you, Glenn Greenwald, Thank-you, J Turly. (slthough I found one note of discordance with Turley personally...why is he still spreading that mythical Gore self-crediting statement about the internet?)

I haven't read through the letters yet, but

I wish that sll the people who sniffed with impatience at those of us whose folly was to state 'we are witnessing the death-throes of the capitalist system' would at least pause and ponder this sniffing tendency.

I know that I myself, rarely the brightest penny, feel like a Cassandran; so many things I have predicted and feared have come true.

Remember protesting the invasion of Iraq? All those people in the streets? Why are we doomed to be ignored? I mean this on the level of the evolution of the human species. How are we ever to move forward as a species if we can't accommodate those who can more accurately predict outcome with those who have compassion for what that outcome is?

And finally, just a guess, why are many of you reading this, irritated and sniffing?

Insane?

The entire spectacle is a farce, obvious to the rest of the world. Only the stupid of America can believe otherwise. Unfortunately, those that know how to manipulate them through the media are still controlling the country.

Thanks for mentioning the Personality Disordered pathologies. These are precisely what I recognize myself, as a mental health worker and a relative to my very own BDP. I hate to think that this type of personality might be boiled down to a particular physiology, the implications a little alarming, but I can't help but wonder.

My pity

is for her children. Also for her state; if there was any illusion about her awfulness up there it's long since been eliminated by now.

Nearer her God

I'm not a christian, though I was raised as one, but over the years I've come to the conclusion that true connection with the divine involves humility, compassion, and a belief in love as the core human value. The finest christians I've known embody this.

I've watched a few videos of Palin in her church and the type of christianity she seems to believe in seems to define itself as an us or them struggle, where the good and evil are assigned with certainty and the resulting assumption is that, for Palin, God, narcissistically, is as small minded as she is herself.

Hubris. I think this is mind blowing hubris and the almost triumph of appearance over substance taken to it's logical extreme. There doesn't seem to be any God in her God. I feel sorry for her in the same way I feel sorry for Bush and Cheney; they're twisted and full of hate. I feel far more pity for her children who look to me as if they are being used as props.

I will not.....

pity......will...not......wince, yes but not.....pity.

What I still can't understand is

why the numbers remain so high for McCain. I've been keeping track of the relentless 20 to 30 percenters for Bush for lo these many years (at times like this, EIGHT YEARS, I think isn't it lucky we couldn't see into the future?) but who are these others, the up to 45%ers? What are they thinking? Why do the numbers continue so high? These are people who look at Palin and somehow make their peace with the risk of her obvious incompetence at the helm of one of the most important jobs in the world. I just don't get it.
