I'm sorry, but baring a breast in an Applebees isn't "100 percent socially acceptable", whether it's intended to titillate a lascivious middle-aged man or meant to breast-feed a baby.

You know you have a baby, you know that baby will need to breast-feed at some point, it's not asking too much to do a little planning ahead and have a blanket in the car (or in a baby-bag) in case baby gets hungry while you are out in public.

    Glenn,

You state you can't see why the issues raise in the original Politico piece rise to the level of a "scandal", and note Giuliani merited a police escort ... which is true, as far as it goes.

However, it's my understanding that, because of trips made to visit his mistress, that police detail rang up expenses such as food, lodging, etc., which would not have been necessary if the mayor had, for example, spent the evening back at his house.

Any such additional charges which were generated and billed to the city are also tantamount to "stealing from the taxpayers".

    Glenn,

But by this reasoning, NYC Mayors should stay at home every night in order not to incur additional expenses from leaving the Mayor's mansion. What if went to baseball games every night instead, or to the opera, or bowling with friends every night? It would increase expenses just the same. The issue here seems to be that he wasn't involved in any "acceptable" recreational activities, but something "unacceptable" -- i.e., seeing his mistress.

Except if he went to a Yankees game, bowling, etc., presumably he would still be returning home at the end of the evening.

I do take your point though - if he had attended, say, an out-of-town Yankees game I don't believe anyone would be protesting the bill. No one is asking our elected officials to become pure homebodies. Still, charging the city for extra expenses incurred while cheating on your wife does seem to cross a line somewhere.

It doesn't have to be illegal to still be scandalous.

The opening bid on the Crisp mansion was $1.8 million, with an "m", not a "b".
