Are there no organizations, quasi-judicial-offical-like Body that oversees the work the Journalists? That is; lawyers have the Bar, Accoutants are Certified, Engineers have strict guidlines to follow, why not Journalists? (anticipating a rejoinder, yes, I looked-up Journalism 'ethics and standards' and blah bah, as far as I can tell, it comes down to; 'Every news org. has only its credibility and reputation to rely on' which is not very comforting to me, presently.)
I read the entire WaPo editorial (Fred Hiatt?) piece Glenn references. It is retardedly stupid. The whole thing...and, imo, Glenn's quotes just scraped the surface.
Here:
>"THE SENATE intelligence committee's bipartisan rewrite of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is not perfect, but it illustrates that there is a path to a reasonable compromise that would give intelligence agencies the flexibility to intercept foreign communications while strengthening oversight of their activities."
Not perfect. wow, compared to what Mr. Hiatt? There already is a 'reasonable path' that gives intelligence agencies the 'flexibility' to intercept foreign communications, it's called FISA.
Here:
>"The biggest sticking point -- ... it concerns the question of retroactive immunity from lawsuits for communications providers that cooperated with the administration's warrantless surveillance program."
Why is that the biggest sticking point?
Here:
>"Immunity aside, both the Senate and House bills would create a strong oversight role for the special court that oversees FISA."
O.K., lets put 'immunity' aside. It's not the strong oversight role of the special court that oversees FISA that is the problem, moron. It's the disregard for FISA LAW (and the special court that oversees it) by the Bush Adm. (and complicity of telecoms) that is the issue. It's called breaking the law.
Hear:
>"As the debate proceeds, lawmakers and the administration need to keep in mind the big-picture points that have, at times, eluded both the Bush administration and some civil liberties groups..."
[Snip the rest]... Mr. Highit goes on the describe the "balance" needed between FISA law and the Bush Adm.s need to break that law so as to make the "debate" less "partisan".
I got to tell you, Glenn, I wouldn't be so alarmed if this had appeared in the weekly Three Forks Edition, but this is the Washington Post for crying out loud. It's like this over at the NYT's with David Brooks (et.L) too... complete nonsense about extremely important issues. They talk about the Iraq war and illegal spying like it's some kind of chatty gossip about the weather one might hear in a hair salon.
RE-phrase; How did these idiots get in such a position of journalistic influence, and how do they keep it?
later, (the press is meeting with dodd.)
bah.
It's the same guy, Glenn.
I recall your prior correspondence wrt interview w/ Gen. Patraeus, and the idiotsyncranitic tone is unmistakeable. He (the alleged Col. Boylan) just added a few extra flouishes, this time.
And you say this missive was sent to you unsolicited, like manna falling from the wild blue yonder?!... I don't know what to say.
say,
bah.
You are no longer on the (long) waiting list to interview Gen. Patraeus, Glenn.
It's all so simple. pdsd.(ie. 'glaring 10-yr.olds' would scare anyone!)
Allegedly,
bah.
P.S. In deference to your 'sophisticated computer experts'; I can track jibbering misquotoes across solid rock and spot a fake col. a mile off. no offense.
Whether they need it or not. e-gads and tsk.
>"...the discourse"
Listen Glenn; there is no discourse (i.e. debate) with these nuckle heads. She'll be coming round the mountain, and they'll still be tooting their horn in the tunnel. tunnel vision. They are only talking just to hear their own head rattle.
Canary in a coal mine,
bah.
ps. Ron Paul is a phenomonal republican, that's for sure.
bebop. A small sea-side villa, maybe. Also, Mitt dresses well. Thats about all I can think of at this time concerning Mitt... other than the rumor of his falling off a turnip wagon?
I, otoh, was raised pure/poor Appalachian (like Glenn?) west of the potomac very close to Indian Fort (Theater), Berea, ky. (Owned/managed by Berea College.). My brother was an Indian there, and often stays at Boone Tavern just for the spoon bread.
Wendell Berry and the Dali Lama are big pals of Berea College, bebop, and stop by to chat ever so often. Wonderful people. (I am sorry you were not appalcahian enough to attend!)
[[[did you get an edification at Berea College?]]]
dern tooting,
bah.
But I suspect only as long as Time Inc. is willing to hire the over-qualified.
Personally, I'm think we should wait on Gen. Patraeus' Sept. report. Just to be sure.
super humour,
bah.
ot~ it's good to see you, bop. You may be oddly ... kind and courteous, but even one can make a difference. :)
