- Obama would have made his moving and insightful anti-war speech whether as an Ill. state Rep., (which he was) a U.S. Senator or standing alone on mt. rushmore (which he mostly was). And, obviously, he is still making it. ...imo, even more eloquently.
- One sagious, informed and thoughtful person can make all the difference in the world. Especially, a U.S. President. Especially now. (*In fact, though I dearly love the principles expressed in our constitution and form of gov., I've got nothing against Monarchs or Kings per se. I like the King of Jordan and Queen of England, for example, and so 'spreading democracy' surely can not always be advantagous.)
- People really need some hope and inspiration about right now. Someone who understands the responsibility and can imagine something better than the abject horror of Iraq, recognize the 'wholeness of human relationships'...and muster the fortitude to lay down the law. (u.s. law)
- and the invisible hand.
I don't know if Obama is the person for the job. But I very much like what I see so far. May be ...just what the doctor ordered.
fingers crossed,
bah.
Edwards is my 'second' choice as well (also, keeping an eye out for Dodd.)
This, I believe, is how system works best... choosing among the best options available. (Instead of GG's; 'lessor of evils'.)
good evening. and thank you for your kind words.
bah.
& I would have swore Glenn was Appalachian.
Please support the AADL (anti-appalachian defamation League) too.
Various things;
1. David Brooks' 'perfectly reasonable column'.
Whether writing for the NYT or talking on pbs' News Hour, I think David's whole thing is to try to make insanity sound reasonable. You really have to 'watch' this guy to get the full effect... how he can matter-of-factly say the most idiotic stuff, and seemingly get away with it, Glenn.
2. "anti-semitic comments on MoveOn..."
I once asked my supervisor (@ Beth Israel Med. Cntr.) what "that funny little hat" he was wearing was? Does that count... he laughed right in my face? (*he said it was called a yamaka(sp)).
3. The Unapologetic Mexican (prettier than lou dobbs aint saying much, however.) photographs!!!
Stunningly Beautiful images.
Sometimes a picture is worth ten thousand words. And these images are the best thing you've said in a while, Glenn.
this place seems different at night.
bop must be snoring,
bah.
I thought secretive (and unsecretive) torture was already banned in the U.S.?
While I sincerely appreciate your efforts, Sen. Kennedy, to ...further ban U.S. torture, at this point (actually long before this point) I sincerely believe that the U.S. Congress would have more of an impact if it would merely exercise it's sworn duty and Enforced the Laws against torture and punish those who inflict and condone it.
...And while your at it, you might want to look into the justifications for the Iraq war. Surely lying to the American people and Congress about justifications for war is not legal, is it?
Sincerely,
bah.
we gonna do what they say can't be done.' (*smoky and the bandit).
Thanks for the breaker/breaker KBRtrucker (&Keep your pedal to the metal, good buddy). I think the consensus around here is that Iraq is a combination of most unfortunate confluences; money for free (our money,as you illustrate, that is), some warped-speed-beam-me-up-scotty version of ArmagaDdoom and the big-wigs aint' getting none (not even on the side.). And if that's not enough, they are completely insane.
that about it. The microbugs have got me grizzled plumb-out bop.
When in doubt; hum
bah.
(& maybe Jefferson, on my mommy's afro-lachian side.).
Co...incidence: David Brooks is also writing about Hamilton valuses over at the NYT? spooky.
Edwards is still my second choice.
I have little doubt that Edwards could, and would, very well restore the up-lifting spirit of the constitution (so eloquently expressed by your passages of Hamilton. dang, those guys could write!) and the rule of law within the United States of America. I would further opine that is the essential task at hand.
However, beyond the remedies provided by restoration of constitutional values and rule of law in the U.S., I believe the global...uh, problems unleashed upon the world by our present leadership cannot be overlooked or underestimated. The world is not getting less, but people are getting more.
Should we be fortunate enough to get a next president, that president will have their work cut-out for them in terms of repairing global relations and rebuilding trust. doh. So, I think it's critical we choose someone who has a little experience living amongst other cultures and some understanding and vision for protecting the diversity and wholeness of human relationships.
...come on Glenn, say it with me O...B...A...M...A. :)
yours,
bah.
"Hi. NSA?" YEP. What's the trouble now today? I say, "That coughin' dog on Fox TV is a gaggin', and I was just wonderin' if you got the veterinarian's phone #? I misplaced?" NSA says, "Okay."
I say, "Thanks NSA, I forgot everything lately. The nations needs to get rid of a nasty spreading hoof-in-mouth disease cough on TV and radio shows. It's a sounds like it's a sick fox spitting hairs or chicken feathers. It's irritating as hell to most American citizenry."
Okay.
roll off my chair funny bop.
bah:
We= I + me. (in addition to my handservants.)
We are still waiting patiently for Sen. Clinton to change her mind about the unjustified AUMF in Iraq.
bah.
Other than that, your post was mostly true.
respectfully,
bah.
