Interesting to note that for Broadsheet apparently multiculturalism has trumped feminism.

Here, let me show you the twisted logic that goes into this bizarre rationalization.

*There is no such thing as a bad culture. All societies are equally admirable and if one culture promotes freedom and one promotes subjugation, it's worth contorting our beliefs just so nobody gets any ideas that one culture is better than another! Diversity is more important than right and wrong, kids. We MUST NOT criticize any other cultures or societies. Well, except for those fundy asshole Christians - fuck them and the horse they rode in on.*

^^does that about sum it up?

  • Big el vs. little el

“…can't entirely object to what Goldberg is talking about, although I think he's writing this as a bludgeon to attack liberalism in general (even as he, paradoxically, touts liberal free-market-driven societies).”

Goldberg is attacking big ‘el’ Liberalism. Presumably he considers himself a little ‘el’ liberal. Like the difference between democrat and Democrat, there’s no paradox between attacking Liberalism and touting liberalism.

  • Semantics

I agree with others who have commented on the non-biased methodology of the interview. Although the interviewer clearly didn’t agree with Goldberg’s argument, his criticisms/questions were certainly justifiable and relevant. Nicely done, Salon.

Having said that, since I tend to agree more often with Goldberg politically than with Salon (and most Salon readers), I was disappointed by Goldberg’s inability to make his case in the interview. Goldberg seemed to be hung up on labels, and his responses gave the impression that his entire argument is nothing more than a redefinition of who we consider fascist and socialist and what those terms mean. I wish he had been able to more clearly outline his argument because there’s certainly a case to be made that laws prohibiting smoking in one’s own home or required seatbelt usage are examples of nanny-state fascism.

What is it they used to say about James Joyce? “There’s no sense in trying to fight the English language because you can’t win”? I think the book would have sounded more appealing and his argument more convincing if Goldberg had concentrated on the meat of the argument and less on the technical term for what Mussolini considered himself in 1937.

Just my 2 cents. Interesting interview in any case.

Small, unrepresentative states are what make up this country…or hasn’t ol’ Tommy figured that out yet?

More stomach-churning moral relativism from Broadsheet. How would you react if those women were treated that way in America? Would you still say that there are some perks?

Greenwald – in FAVOR of free speech?!?!?!

Very surprising and heartening, even if he thinks that right-wing writers are “pernicious.”

I think it’s interesting to note how quickly those charges of hate speech and political correctness can be turned and used against you - just look at what’s happening to the Democrats right now. The entire Democrat (yes, Democrat – not Democratic) primary is going to be decided by which identity group can claim more grievance. It’s like the saying goes - Republicans don’t care what you look like on the outside and Democrats ONLY care what you look like on the outside.

  • You're free to say what you want and I'm free to have the government drag you through a kangaroo court!

    Scullboy,

You are missing the point. If one of the “limits” of free speech is that you can be brought up in court for expressing ideas then it’s not really free speech at all, is it? If you don’t understand that, you should be sterilized so you can’t pollute the gene pool any further. Canada’s system of government is scary as shit to me and just so you know, it’s NOT working better than ours!

Finally, it's totally about nothing more than pink men killing brown babies so Darth Cheneyvader's buddies can make money. This is why I think Republicans are dumb."

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It doesn’t matter one bit if the purple race outbreeds the green race. If one group of people in a society believes that women should be stoned to death for adultery, however, it means a great deal how large that group is. The observation is regarding demographics – demographics that prove that the proportion of people who do believe that women should be stoned to death for adultery is rising in Western Europe. You can put your fingers in your ears if you like, but it doesn’t change the demographic reality. The transformation in Europe is going to be morbidly interesting to watch; judging by what has happened in Europe’s history regarding societal change, the shift is not likely to be peaceful.

So the ACLU basically just perverted the definition of a private club to suit their own interests. Color me unsurprised. That’s standard operating procedure for scum like that.

[Read the article: This just in: Women are stupid!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Merely a thinly-veiled, though clever and Machiavellian attempt by a Hillary supporter to rile up female voters the day before the Ohio & Texas primaries. Anything that anyone says about women helps Clinton tremendously in the polls.
