81 letters is pretty good. Anyway, you're typification of ABC's diluted gender war, in which they cop out and strip off the frisson and poignancy and opt for blandness, can also be said of all the networks. I'm a 50 year old man who reads three or four books a week, has a degree in blah blah blah, and I have to admit I only like cartoons. South Park, Family Guy, Tom Goes to the Mayor, Aqua Teen Hunger Force ( and I swear I gave up illegal drugs years ago,) etc. And its because only they can capture anything like the economic, political, military, and especially artistic infotainment absurdities you often allude to. Live-action is dead, except for the occasional ( very diluted ) eroticism. And I promise, I'm not, or didn't used to be, an antiTV snot.
This is the kind of " scary ", Count Floyd, War Against Women stupidity which is separating the girls from the women - in newspapers, on basic cable, in the halls of Conde Nast and Hearst Inc, everywhere, that is, with even a 40% functional literacy rate. South Park - parle-vous le animation moderne? - had it right. None of these girls/young women are virgins and not even the dumbest Focus on the Family goon even expects them to be. It's a red herring to sell crap on Nickelodean, ABC Family/Disney/Touchstone, etc. Its another cheesy corporate shill. Lighten up, chill, whatever, or die the death of the culturally irrelevant. Like Helen Gurley Brown, the Ropers, and Rev. Moon.
Only two comments? What, were all the rest censored for Tourette's? Well, I believe I can maintain my panache without frothing at the mouth. One, Larry Craig, an outrage? Not Blagovovich, Edwards, Clinton, the criminal prosecution of poor pitiful old Stevens, ( according to Obama's Atty Gen, anyway), Spitzer? Youre credibility is smaller than your embarrassingly small brain. Don't worry, imbeciles like you aren't going to get me to vote Republican - if you're very, very careful with that dingleberry you call a larynx. Two, There are no gay conservatives. Every schoolchild knows this. And you're going to instuct us on this, like Rowling and the author of Twilight are educating us all on literary quality? Three, sieg heil, you fashionably thin reincarnation of Goering.
I have never registered for either party. I voted Clinton - nyet - nyet - McCain. But this constant bitching is annoying. I've switched my opinion to support Obama, and that was what emotionally makes it satisfying; the mindless kvetching. Intellectually, I support abortion rights, gay marriage, legalizing prostitution, legalizing most drugs - but I am a hardcore fiscal conservative. Guess what? The economy is recovering because THE MARKET IS 90% Psychological. Obama said, " The American people didn't elect me to do nothing." How right he is. Israel? Negotiate. You're on their land. Mexico? You face a bloody peasant revolt if you don't follow our example of simple fairness. Tax the offshore accounts, no? What bad LSD-laced Republican spin can convince dittoheads taxing offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands is NOT a win/win, something economists left right and center have been clamoring for since the 1990's? The difference between Clinton and Obama? Obama doesn't just run his mouith. Obama acts, and acts with grace and style, and intelligence. Shut up, Left Behind mental cases. Let the man do the job the people duly elected him for. Thanx.
OMG!OMG! The patriarchy! OMG, OMG,OMG, OMG! We win because were stupid sluts! OMG! We're fucking hypocrites who don't know a fucking thing, but were American women!!!!!!! We manipulate the press and get what we want!!!!!!! Were so fing smart!!!!
For the first time I know of, HH is way off base. Shows about therapy are for the same kind of - cough - narcissistic dullards who think therapy actually works in the first place except for truly traumatized individuals - and even then it only works because it has to. No drug ever invented for acute psychological trauma is better than that trauma itself. The relationship between the shrink and Tony Soprano passed muster because it was ultimately futile - at least so it seemed to me. A true sign that after the three best dramas on TV - Deadwood, Sopranos, and Six Feet Under - HBO has simply crapped out. Curb Your Enthusiasm reruns and " RV " ten times a week can't justify their asking price in a recession. It just doesn't.
I was a Jeremy Piven fan going back even before the original Cupid, and he was great in it. The rest of the cast was lackluster, but his energy, and the fact that the show had teasing erotic elements that had been banned from TV since around the demise of Cheers, made it work. That show, like some others from the 1998 season, fell victim to the So You Want to be a Millionaire juggernaut. TV would have been better off sticking to the PG-13 raunchiness and video-comeliness of the shows that were axed that fall and winter, including the underrated Fantasy Island remake with Malcolm McDowell and a stunning Madchen Amick. I went to subscription and basic cable after 1999 and never looked back, much.
When southern white males 18-35 ( preponderance of our military which actually sees combat) have an automatic affirmative action seat in the senate or house or cabinet position ( yes I know they aren't eligible, but they could have a convention and nominate a proxy ) then I will consider the right a greater threat to the Constitution than the left. Moderate conservatives 2, Obama 0.
