I'm surprised .... saying no to hilary-clinton force staying behind; saying no to joe-biden tripartite Iraq
I just saw this on FDL.
Right after Sen. Lieberman voted against U.S. troops on the Webb amendment, he launched his new Iran Amendment – cosponsored by pals Kyl, Graham, Collins and Sessions with strong support by McCain – and Senator Levin could not fall over himself fast enough to display his love of his big pal from CT.
From the released draft:
that “the murder of members of the United States Armed Forces by a foreign government or its agents is an intolerable act of hostility against the United States,” and demands the government of Iran “take immediate action” to end all forms of support it is providing to Iraqi militias and insurgents. The amendment also mandates a regular report on Iran’s anti-coalition activity in Iraq.
From Joe Biden:
"For many months, our military commanders and diplomats have warned us that the Iranian government has been training, equipping, arming, and funding proxies in Iraq who are murdering our troops,” said Senator Lieberman. “This amendment is a common sense, common ground statement of the Senate to Tehran: we know what you are doing, and you must stop.
More from FDL:
Levin and Salazar asked to be added as co-sponsors before the language was finalized, McCain used the bullshit Michael Gordon Hezbollah story to justify his vote, Graham waxed poetic comparing Iranian leadership to Hitler and Sen Durbin spoke of his support – as long as the amendment specified that it was not an authorization of military action. (Wow, what a relief! We all know that little details like congressional authorization matter so much to this White House).
Levin introduced the actual vote on the Lieberman Amendment by stressing that the Senate stands as one and that Iran had better listen.
The final vote: 97 Ayes, 0 Nays
The title of the piece: Levin-Lieberman Love Fest - One Step Closer to War on Iran
We've got our "act of war" on the part of Iran fully documented. All we need now is to wait a few months for the product launch.
People have been writing my name as Harrold since I can remember. My childhood friends used to introduce me as the guy with three first names or, on occassion, Weird Harold (I can thank Cosby for that).
My Dad's birth name was Aro (Spanish), but his name was changed to Harold on his First Communion certificate and the whole family high-tailed to the church and had their names changed in the register. It's been Harold every since.
First this:
A question for you, Mr. Shooter. Do you live in NO or the gulf coast?
Family is in Pensacola, I was ground zero Hugo '89.
then this:
My family lives in Pensacola, I did't say I did. They got Ivan among others. I lived in Charleston, SC for 30 years, including Hugo. I thought stalker types like LWM knew that.
If you we're in Charleston during Hugo, what the hell has that got to do with your family living in Pensacola? And if you were in Pensacola during Hugo, what the hell are you bring up that "ground zero" crap?
You are so busted!
Nothing new there. You're worse than busted, actually. But calling you names isn't going to change you and it won't make me feel any better. Anyway, the kind of crap you pander, you'll never have a shortage of people to call you out. You're such a Republican. You know that?
Until Katrina, New Orleans was one of the leading Democratic cities in the South. New Orleans had the ability to pull any state election into the Democratic camp. That's because New Orleans was predominately Black/African American. In 2000, the racial composition was:
White 135956 28.05%
Black or African American 325947 67.25%
Here are the New Orleans population numbers before and after Katrina:
July 1, 2005 452,170
July 1, 2006 223,388
There is no doubt that Katrina's neglect is in part the result of a desire to create a permanent Republican majority in Louisiana. And FEMA continues to do little or nothing to help. Our Democratic state senator, Mary Landrieu (Dave Vitter's a Republican don't you know), is holding hearings on the failure of FEMA to help Louisiana recover in a timely manner. This is from a hearing held yesterday:
United States Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., today chaired a hearing on the process localities must go through to complete Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) project worksheets (PWs), a requirement for receiving federal funds. As a result of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, there are 23,000 public works projects in Louisiana, and each one requires complicated, time consuming steps in order to receive FEMA funds.
“The project worksheet system is inefficient, slow and contradictory,” Sen. Landrieu said. “Anyone who comes in contact with it quickly understands it is one of the major roadblocks to our recovery from Katrina and Rita. Destroyed localities with no tax base are required to put up money in advance. Work is reviewed not just building-by-building but segment by segment. Tens of thousands of documents must be completed for a single project. Communities are prevented from building better and smarter. Our locals must re-justify their projects because of FEMA’s high employee turnover. And FEMA inspectors systematically low ball damage estimates, in some cases by four or five times.”
