I have yet to hear the politician who will convince me to register for one of the two parties. However, I live in a very blue state - and the primary rarely even makes a difference because one candidate or another is far enough ahead in the state - and in my congressional district for the delegate count. There is no impact to make. The only impact, in fact, is to give $$ for the congressional race in November and to try to get rid of my bozo Republican Congressman who is a complete and total asswipe. I tried talking to his office about S-CHIP and was told that nobody in our district would be impacted by it. Imagine. I didn't know everyone in our district had health insurance for their kid - or could afford it.

About whether she resigned or he asked - I thought perhaps she thought enough of him, given the campaign he says he wants to run, to offer it. If he did ask, as you said, 'fair enough'. I wouldn't blame him at all for asking. Whichever way it happened, I don't blame him - why would I? This is what happens in a campaign, which is kind of my point.

I don't say everything I think. But I am more plain-spoken than other people. I don't tell people they are stupid. But, if I think a client is about to do something silly, I will say I don't think so, instead of blindly agreeing with them. Yes, it wasn't popular with my former employer, who thought I should kiss my clients' ass. But the clients' would actually appreciate it, although they might not act on it. And, in the end, it meant we were covered.

What you were describing IS a politician and it boggles my mind that people think Obama isn't one....it's really amazing, I hate to bring up McCain here, but people slammed him for telling people in Michigan their old jobs weren't coming back. He didn't say no jobs were ever coming back, he was talking about practical things like re-training and trying to do something for states that have real problems. Romney WAS selling a fairy story. But, Romney won in Michigan. That's what I'm talking about. People WOULD rather hear a fairy story, if it sounds nice. They would rather have their asses kissed. As for a social situation, I tend to walk away rather than say anything.

Getting off topic here, of course, but glad to remind you of the Danton/Frost saga. Anytime. Amazing, wasn't it? We knew Danton was nuts, and suspected Frost had something to do with it but we never expected the insanity that resulted. One thing that has resulted from Goodenow's resignation, Frost has been decertified. Yippeee!!!!

The truly ironic part of all this is that Danton is serving his sentence in a Federal Prison in....NJ.

Sorry about the destruction of your fantasy team. But...the team is basically Marty, Marty and more Marty these days (even more than it used to be). Anyone who thought he wasn't really a HOFer is sadly mistaken. Abolish the trapezoid, free Brodeur!!!

    OK, I'll stop now. =)

  • Even returns that are filed may not be 'done'

I experienced that this past year. I had to 'file' twice. First, with an estimated payment for Federal, and file for an extension on my returns because I just didn't have the info from my business partners. Then, when I finally did file for real, which was on practically the last possible day for the extension, I almost thought I was going to have to file an amended return later, which you can do within three years of filing your return, because it appeared that I still wasn't getting the right info out of our accountant. I never had to go through this before, but I was never a partner (even a junior one) in a company before. The IRS, who spoke to me several times as I was freaking out, is totally cool with this, as long as you are making the best of efforts to provide them with the info you have at the time.

I have no idea whether any candidates have had to file amended returns...but I can imagine the stink if they released returns and then released amended ones, which all citizens have the right to do, as long as it is within the 3 year requirement. Goodness, can you imagine it?

I believe his point IS about 2006. The extension for filing for 2006 was October 16th, 2007. That wasn't too long ago. And, that doesn't take into account the fact that anyone who filed then has three years to file amended returns. It isn't unusual for people to do it. There's nothing criminal about it, but it sounds criminal to many people.

I got my K-1 from the accountant that morning and it STILL wasn't right, I just barely caught him to get him to get it fixed, and you know what the IRS told me when I thought I wasn't going to have the right numbers? File anyway, and then send us an amended return. You are filing in good faith.

I work for a very small company. They barely got their books done in time for me to file my taxes in time for the extension. Guess what. Last year, GM basically re-did their accounting for the last 5 years. I have no idea what that did to their investors and their tax returns. Ugh. It is really not that unusual for people who have investment income to file amended returns. So, even if they file, they may, indeed, not be 'done' yet, they could be amending them. What's worse, release once, with the amended, correct returns, or releasing twice?
