Clearly Selig doesn't particularly care about Giambi. He merely wants Giambi to name names in order to keep the whole stinking issue alive. Selig wants to go down in history as the man who cleaned up baseball, even if it means destroying the sport which after all is less important to Bud than Bud's view of Bud's place in history among Bud's titanic ego. Because let's face facts - Bud Selig wants to use this as a bludgeon to financially hurt players and weaken the union while at the same time keeping owners whole. And he's using MLB's antitrust exemption in Congress as a tool to get Congress to do his dirty work for him.
I think the Players Union should call his bluff and lay it out: No more witch hunts, have a rational plan to deal with substance abuse or we walk and everyone goes broke. In the meantime all the soccer daddies can cluck and chatter about punishment while their kids get to watch NCAA softball on TV in lieu of an MLB season.
And yes, I DO expect Selig to create a new rule which either prevents Bonds from playing beyond HR 754 or at the least will simply invalidate all of Bonds stats at that point. See MLB owns their own stats. They can in fact do with them whatever they want.
Every other day there's a blurb-ette on Salon and similar progressive mags that assert this huge disconnect between "Iran" and "Iranians" and how they're really all our bestest friends for life one on one. It's those crazy Ayatollahs that muck up everything.
Well ok then, when they're done hanging in public from cranes all the children who have sex, gays, rapists, child molesters, porn actors and actresses, young mouthy women, lesbians, bisexuals and such then come back and tell me about how everyone's going to rise up and do something about it.
No? Ok then well it's not that bad and they all deserve one another. Maybe we should send them 20 million roofing hammers and they can hack each other death unto the last one.
One thing I've learned from bullhorn radicals over the years is that we truly have zero business giving a shit about how anyone treats their own. Swarthy people with funny hats and stranger customs have to sort it out on their own without big bad bwana's interference.
Straight up this is naked emperor nonsense.
To faux hippie free love grunting piles of desperate love we should instead seriously consider closed term marriage contracts of say, 7 years. Renewable by both parties. If you want to stay married for another 7 years you renew your contract. Not sure what the penalty for 'early withdrawl' would be, maybe just forcing them to stay married would be enough punishment.
France and Germany's concerted efforts to beat back Turkey's membership in the EU is.......TA DA!... America's fault. Ok

Yes clearly the secret hand of America is behind all of this. Cue Theremin sound.
Gee you can't write fiction as silly as the 'facts' that some people spout here.
Good things don't just fall on you because you're a nice person and you feel you deserve it, do they? I keep hearing about that next breakthrough just over the horizon but I am sorely disappointed in our elected Democrats and their grasp of power.
The Liberals have hate mail, Joan Walsh and snarling. Maybe they need a better plan too. The whole approach of "You're a doodiehead doodiehead doodiehead!!" is maybe not the best approach they could mount. Sure the Republicans are awkward dorks what with these young people and their rock and roll music and such but the fact is most people really aren't that online savy.
Is that they employ the same kind of silly rhetoric and PR stunts as the Dear Leader of Salon's Shiny Happy Free Democratic Marxist People's Public of Hugochavezstan. When your leaders don't really worry about what you think then they revert to set stage agitprop nonsense. Viva La Revolucion!!
The EU's seemingly craven attempts at doing business with Iran, Libya, Syria in a lame effort to 'keep the channels of communication open' is at best, misguided. Whether its in blanket mindless effort to check the box marked "appease local Muslims by saying we actually like all those violent fellows who routinely call for our death, just please don't burn down any more of our neighborhoods, thank you..." or it's, as is more likely just a silly thumb in the eye of anything that smacks of aligning with the US on sheer principles alone, it's obvious that simply saying "Whatever it is, I'm against It !!!!" is perhaps not the smartest policy to pursue.
I mean let's not gloss over too too much the fact that the Kosovars in the guise of the KLA, an Albanian supported, supplied and trained Muslim 'liberation insurgency' set out to carve off a piece of Serbia and actually began shooting first. What the Serbians didn't count on is world opinion in response to their reaction to it so close on the heels of the Bosnian war. So in effect the lesson learned in the Balkans is that if you are a self professed Muslim nationalist movement and you want to simply kill and terrorize your way to independence then the EU will probably support you on that.
The makers of Astroglide, is all I can say.
"Anon" who cried "will you help us fix the mess you made?"
How is that effort to bar Turkey from EU membership working out for you? How is that Merkel objection that there will be no reference to a Christian God in the EU constitution going to play with the Muslimocrats?
Just wondering how you'll spin that into something that's our fault. Thanks.
